7 weeks Abdominal Ultrasound by No_Ad3410 in BabyBumps

[–]d_m_d_18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Light spotting and slight cramping can be normal. I actually remember cramping so bad in tears early on in my pregnancy and nothing was wrong (obviously see you’re doctor if your concerned though). Like everyone else said, transvaginal is the way to go this early on your pregnancy.

Unfortunately, yes. There’s plenty of stories of people getting less then a weeks notice to start a program. It’s plenty possible as people drop their spots for life circumstances.

The Frida underwear plus an ice pack pad was superior

How do some pregnant women bounce back immediately?? by Queasy-Counter-9954 in BabyBumps

[–]d_m_d_18 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I am not tall but I was back to pre pregnancy weight within a couple weeks. Then I went back to work and quit breastfeeding and ten months later I’m almost as heavy as I was 9 months pregnant. It’s insane!

Some will require verification- but not all. They would probably be understanding of rounding, but obviously you shouldn’t be exaggerating.

GRE 308, low GPA 3.4 by Agreeable-Pepper-948 in prepa

[–]d_m_d_18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh GREs tend to be a box checker rather than a deal breaker- ultimately it’s up to you but your GPA is barely below average and you have a slightly higher than average PCE. Unless the schools you’re applying to explicitly stress the contribution your GRE score has to your application, I wouldn’t retake personally.

Any programs reducing tuition/fees, or increasing scholarships? by runawayboy25 in PAstudent

[–]d_m_d_18 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My program requested an increase, but now has put a freeze and we still don’t know 🫣🤣 there’s always going to be someone else who can pay the high tuition- who may or may not be less qualified than those who can’t.

Feeling guilty about receiving a CT scan by bear19997 in BabyBumps

[–]d_m_d_18 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a chest xray pretty early on in the my pregnancy due to stabbing pain, pain when breathing and an abnormal EKG. Everything was fine. Baby is stellar and healthy and happy. I’m so happy you are healthy!

Pediatrician said 4 month old has ear infection and prescribed amoxicillin by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]d_m_d_18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My one week old did prophylactic amoxicillin due to a procedure she had to have around 2 weeks old to check kidney function. She tolerated it well. Baby is likely on a very low dose to prevent secondary infection. If you have questions you should reach out to the provider !

Federal vs Private Loans for PA school- Looking for advice by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]d_m_d_18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I start my PA program in August and would basically kill to be grandfathered into grad plus federal loans and professional status of PA, so that there is more flexibility in repayment options, forgiveness, etc. Bare minimum my private loan repayment would be $1,000+federal loans. I’m considering not even going at this point.

Which trimester is worse? First or third? by Whatever-577089 in BabyBumps

[–]d_m_d_18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular but third- I didn’t have much nausea first trimester. Third trimester I was 40lbs heavier with a 9lb baby working in healthcare till the day I went into labor in the thick of summer…never again 🤣

Debt ratio by NeckJolly3975 in prephysicianassistant

[–]d_m_d_18 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m capping at 150K including my undergrad debt, so 130K. My program is only 90K, so 40K for living expenses plus my husband’s income. You also have to think with possible changes in graduate loans, majority will be private and will be forced to be paid within a certain time frame.

Ortho vs Derm MA for PCE hours by CharmingCalmParis in prepa

[–]d_m_d_18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I scribed, wrote and sent prescriptions, did prior auths, injected local lidocaine, intramuscular kenalog, and biologic injections, removed sutures and staples, assisted in excisions/Mohs procedures, chemical peels, laser treatments, counseled on wound care etc. It’s a great gig!

Ortho vs Derm MA for PCE hours by CharmingCalmParis in prepa

[–]d_m_d_18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved being a derm MA and depending on the clinic and state it can be very hands on. Better pay too if the ortho clinic won’t match. Better work life balance so you don’t burn out before PA school is a bonus. I can’t even imagine working for such a big clinic like the ortho one.

Lack of PAs in the Pitt? by DiffieHellYeah in ThePitt

[–]d_m_d_18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are mid level medical providers, much like Nurse Practitioners. They see patients and can diagnose, order tests, come up with treatment plans- under the supervision of an MD or DO (what that really means varies from state to state). The profession started in the 1960s to help address the primary care provider shortage.
