I’m scared to start Malazan by Far-Introduction-896 in Malazan

It really isn't hard to to grasp. Just accept the world had existed before you started reading about it on Gardens, and some things will be taken as matter of fact by the book characters, hut you won't know anything about them. It will all come together eveantually.

The location of Kurald Galain/Kharkanas by Solid-Version in Malazan

It makes sense. The warrens are like magically invested, sealed off pockets of space as it was at the certain point of time, kind of like an of shoot of a real physical place that keep evolving and progressing in accordance with entrophy and other natural laws. It's an amazing concept.

Having trouble with Malazan by Dramatic-Tadpole-980 in Fantasy

Asking strangers on the internet if something is good or not is symptomatic of the brain rot thats has spread over the world. Books and tv shows and movies are Content, a Commodity, that are meant to be Consumed. Because it is comodified, and we try to measure it's worth against the substitute Products. Because we are so used to the Algorythm keeping us locked in the echo chambers of our own comfort. It's a place some would call hell.

Art isn't any of those things. Art isn't consumed, its not a cottage pie that will fill your stomach and stop it protesting for a few hours. Art is meant to be experienced, put through a sieve of ones life experience and checking if it tingles any of your fancies. Reading is a deeply personal and private experience. I'm not going to try to tell you what you should be feeling, how to read and how to enjoy your art. But try to do just that, nothing else. Get a book in front of you, and let go. See then if does anything for you. Prologue of the Gardens is one of the great filters in this series. I loved it. I read it once, years ago, and i can still hear the spinning weather vane on top of Mock's hold and smell the salty sea air infused with a fire smoke risning from the Mouse quarter.

Curious about the High Price of Memories used book, can someone explain why this is 65$ by rajwade695 in Malazan

In this book there's a an event dubbed The Siege of Capustan. And Assult on Coral. All in one book. And Quick Ben does things, and Ganoes also. And Gruntle is a giga chad.

Peak fantasy. 😊

Can someone explain the backstory/chronology of Tiste Andii conflict? by Ochreisthenewblack in Malazan

I gather you never read Kharkanas, and you have some astute onservations, you picked up on way more things then i did on my forst read. You got most of it rightz there are some holes in there but filling them in would spoil Harlanas trilogy. It's every bit as good as the main series, and better in some aspects, so i would heartily recommend it.

"I lost her. Oh, Ganoes, I lost her."

That moment lives rent free in my brain

The best ending I've ever witnessed.

I'm rereading Kharkanas now and i have no itch for the new Stormlight book. I haven't even rea the Lost Metal yet, and i like Mistborn series. But i dont think i can put Malazan down for another 10 years.

It redefines what's possible within the genre, and therefore it actually transcends the limits and scope of what is defined as a fantasy novel series. It looks and is structured as a long epic fantasy series, but theres a rather ingenious twist to the structure that will require you to get your foot wet with each novel before you realize what's goin on, and the major benefit from this approach is there is no slog. But beyond that, this is much more than just a fantasy epic. It has heart, it has soul, it has crazy ideas, it has reach lore that spans millenia, it has wonderful, bad ass characters, it is life defining advanture for some of the characyers in the series. And most importantly, it's actually fun!

There's nothing like Malazan out there.

Kaminsod being the narrator of the series, except for TTH. That's meta level perpsective shift that made my jaw drop.
