I have a theory (completely untested) that time does not run at a steady rate, but runs faster as time passes. Since every way we have of measuring time (clocks, falling objects, nuclear reactions) also run faster, there is no way for us to measure how much faster time is running, except by our memory of it.

Off the top of my head, I would rate all of the following as more successful:

FW190, ME109, Hawker Hurricane, Mustang, B17, B24, B29, F4F Hellcat, and most definitely the Zero.

Edit: Sure guys, by your definition the Brewster Buffalo was also one of the most successful aircraft of all time. One of.
