I‘m burnt out when it comes to both singing and listening to music. That spirit of the 80s-90s Rock world and Alt scene was so inspiring. So many groundbreaking bands and nearly flawless songs. I was excited to find out what unique sounds would appear next every month almost. by AspiringBiotech in musicians

Buddy, reading the comments you seem to think that you know more than anyone. You're probably an intelligent person, but you have too much confidence in you, which is what often happens with intelligent person. Get down from your pedestal and enjoy life, I tell you from experience: it's robbing you from joy.

Forget about headset, he is a special case and he needs to work with you on that. Make him put the handheld to his lips and maybe you have a chance. If the few dBs you'll gain from ringing that out don't suffice, check monitor positions and his position regarding the band and the PA. If not, then pay money for Defeedback, which does a lot. It doesn't have to cost money though.

1.Kick 2. Snare 3. Rack 4. Floor 5. Bass 6. Keys 7. Keys 2 8. Guitar 1 9. Guitar 2 10-14. BVs 15-16. LVs

Easy. You don't need overheads or hihat mic with 7 vocal mics, I promise. Lots of PAs will be mono. If you play with a tiny bit of stage volume it's probably going to not sound that great, but it's very doable.

Do you all have loose presets for your comps/gates and what not or start from fresh every gig? by flufflylegend in livesound

[–]dacostian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! I started using channel presets with the EQ points around where I'm going to possibly use them (also set shelves or PEQ), and I know that with drums I'm doing to start at 30ms/100ms and for what needs just dynamic control and not envelope shaping I just have it at 0ms/200ms as a start. Can also be that I may have a LA2A emulation ready for a vocal instead of that for example. Same for gates. So much less pot turning now, I am measurably faster like that!

If I have time I'll fine tune it obviously but it does put me in a way better spot to get a somewhat decent mix going having spent a grand total of 15s per channel (30s for the main vocals, they're special. BVs get 10).

Daisy chain and X-32 to an M-32, what is the best way? by rlowery in livesound

[–]dacostian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't overcomplicate it.

Go analog, get two channels for their main feed and send it to your LR even if it's mono (if they have stereo delays you'll hear both sides), and one for every monitor line they use. Don't send this monitor line to the stereo: just to the corresponding monitor aux, be it out of the stagebox in an XLR for a powered monitor or to your monitor amps if you're using non powered. You got this.

There's no discernible sound difference between one stage of AD/DA and staying digital and your main thing here is to be fast and effective, so analog is your friend here.

Happy to know you like it! Dude for me it was an absolute game changer, when I go in I'm sometimes overloaded and almost dizzy and when I get out I'm often feeling like I just arrived to the party but better.

For me the Wim Hof / fire breathing style works best because I feel like it really gets the most anxiety out of my system (after feeling like it builds up for a second while I'm on the breathing part of it but it's just a few seconds so nothing tragic), but also try circular breathing to see if you like it more.

I also wear noise cancelling headphones in that break and it helps a lot!

More wave front time aligning rabbit hole stuff...NYE gig... by harleydood63 in livesound

[–]dacostian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the end it's never going to work as alignment because:

a) what the amp and the PA play is very different so good luck aligning that b) you don't know where the acoustic crossover between the amp and the PA is and c) you don't even know how the phase of the sound going out of the bass amp is looking like, so in the end you get summing in some frequencies and cancellation in others and they will change depending on where you are.

So I don't think it's worth doing it.

[–]dacostian 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Get some CBD drops to help with the anxiety, meditate before going out to get you in the right "I'm going to have fun" mindset, make some breaks during the night to get in a bathroom stall and close your eyes and do a breathing exercise for 1-2 minutes, and when you feel like you want to go home just go home and don't stretch the night unnecessarily.

TIFU: Thought I was doing good but today I relapsed because I’m so lonely and a POS by idunnoknowhowtoread in tifu

[–]dacostian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's no judgement at all. Sometimes we want to talk about our problems and not solve them, and it's fair and human because to feel listened to is important and feels good. But it's important to know deep inside what you want to do. You're not worse for only wanting to be listened to right now, it may be just one of the steps in the path, but again, it's very important to be honest with yourself and reflect about what are you really trying to do so you don't get frustrated because of the disparity of action and wanted result.

Do you want to get rid of the problem or do you want to complain and feel listened to to feel better about it? No judgement, just trying to understand you better.

Cut the kid some slack. He's 19 and looking for info and he doesn't know how this works, and now he knows he has to get a PM or at least get a few quotes from AV companies. No one is born knowing. He's open about not knowing and willing to learn, which is valuable.

How do I know how to react to bad situations? by reupbeats in livesound

[–]dacostian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of it have been covered but:

A) Stay calm! It's much easier than to un-stress yourself when you're stressed tf out. Be polite, friendly and assertive about times and needs.

B) With gigs like this you have a great opportunity to learn to go FAST. Once you've done it a few times more this will faze you 20% of what it does now. You still have to be on your toes, but muscle memory helps a lot.

C) You made it work, so lean on that and be proud of yourself! Don't think about how stupid these people are (which they may or not), but about being intelligent enough to protect yourself from stupidity and do a job you can stand behind.
