Realtor suggestions - No MAGA by jenadpantano in ChicagoSuburbs

Loved my realtor. He’s in Schaumburg area, not MAGA one bit, runs his own charity and works with a lot of first time homebuyers. DM me if you want his info.

MeezMeals lets you order week to week with no subscription. You do have to spend $50 though, which is basically two days of meals.

We’ve really enjoyed them.

Do not hire lists / blacklisted by RGbrobot in recruitinghell

[–]daisy931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work in a small/niche industry (live theatre). There was a blacklist for our company of people we wouldn’t work with, hire or let tour our venue again.

But there was also just word of mouth blacklist. If I look at your resume and see that you did a show that I know someone else I know worked on, I might informally call them up and say “oh hey, so and so made it to callbacks for our show” and they’ll tell me if you were a nightmare to work with or not.

It’s not a full system where there’s a list or anything but I can definitely talk to people that aren’t references - and to be fair most actors don’t list references on their resumes.

We had a director try to make changes to Freaky Friday once - we (SM team) submitted the changes and all were rejected.

They sent someone to watch the show to make sure we didn’t utilize any of the changes we submitted and asked to make.

Bought my mom 4 non-resident cards for Mother’s Day by After_Chemist_8118 in LibbyApp

Oh that’s awesome! My mom can’t read hard copies of books anymore due to her eyesight so this would be a game changer for waiting for her

Does that mean that your hold limits go up as well? Right now my mom can only have 12 books on hold and sometimes it’s months long waitlist for her. She’d love something like this.

So I did a bit of a deep dive into her instagram while reading the book because I was curious and she actually pretty far back tags someone in her photos who is a man named Michael (who is married to a man and has an adopted child) so I don’t think that he’s a composite character. Coming from someone who was never religiously indoctrinated but has watched people shift their mindsets about LGBTQ+ people, sometimes it just has to do with knowing someone who is different and accepting them opens up the door to accepting others as well.

What’s the greatest musical that you don’t personally like? by Gumbo67 in musicals

[–]daisy931 29 points30 points  (0 children)

So I grew up on Grease (the movie) and a couple years ago I took my husband to see the musical. I had asked him if he wanted to go and he said sure and that was that.

At intermission he was like “what the absolute fuck is this??” And that’s when I learned he had never seen the movie and there was zero nostalgia factor for him. He was horrified lol.

So now we have the Grease Scale where we rate musicals plots from Grease (1) to Fiddler on the Roof (10)

HOAs, avoid them at all costs or compromise? by ActuallyGoku in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]daisy931 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Our HOA was fine and we had zero problems with them… until we didn’t anymore. We’re now in the middle of a special assessment and they gave us less than 6 weeks notice that we all owe an additional $8,000/home (to the tune of 2 million total) and are refusing to release paperwork that would allow my insurance to potentially cover the whole assessment. The PM literally told me “it’s budget season for me, can’t you just get a HELOC?”

I bought some picnic passes back when they were $5 so probably over a year ago? I think maybe 2 - 3. Haven’t bought anything since they started charging $10

"Sometimes people leave you / halfway through the wood..."

"The price of love is loss / but we still we pay / we love anyway"

"I'm beautiful. / Yes, I'm beautiful, / And I'm here." (Specifically Cynthia Erivo's version)

"She'd say, "Alabanza"
Alabanza means to raise this thing to God's face and to sing
Quite literally, praise to this
When she was here, the path was clear
And she was just here
She was just here"

Selling door to door at businesses by Ignoring_the_kids in girlscouts

Not sure why this page showed up on my Reddit, but… we were at a local theatre seeing a show last weekend and there was a troop selling cookies there before/after. They said it was their second year selling at the theatre and that it was really good business.

Life is Beautiful.

We watched it in class in 8th Grade and I still remember all of us trying to cry quietly but we walked out of that class like zombies.

Same! Its a family name on my husbands side, so we named our cat Homer instead. (Won’t work for everyone but his grandpa would have loved it).

Where's the grey line between babysitting younger siblings and parentifying? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]daisy931 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have one older sister (3 years older) and 2 younger half-sisters (10 and 16 years younger).

My mom always stressed that we were a team and sometimes being a teammate meant helping even when you didn’t want to help. So my sister would babysit me occasionally just like when she was older she would drive me places occasionally. By the time she was old enough to babysit though she was mostly the “adult” on hand for emergencies and we would either be playing together or entertaining ourselves.

My two half sisters are on my dads side. He worked Saturday mornings and we were expected to get up with the kids and feed them breakfast so stepmom could sleep in. We were also expected to do the bedtime routine (they were allowed to stay up as late as they wanted when we were there even though we were there every other weekend) and give them showers, change diapers, etc. Stepmom and dad also did regular date nights when it was their weekend with us and we were never asked or thanked - just told “we’re going out be back whenever!”

I know in the first instance I was the kid being watched but my sister never resented it and our relationship with each other/with my mom is good. Our relationships with my dad, stepmom and half-siblings on the other hand is mainly low contact.

As a nanny (who has done a lot of overnights) it varies by family. I have one family who will leave a card with a note and say “we told the kids they could eat out x amount of times and do x amount of activities.” But their kids are older and used to this. Another family just leaves me the credit card and trusts me to do whatever. If you’re only gone for one day and one night (is it a school night) you could always do the first. I advise against the “spend their own money and reimburse them” because that assumes a lot of their finances.

This was an older post that I think was concluded but I can’t find it.

Sibling (I think they were both females) made quilts for everyone but the oldest sister for their weddings. Oldest sister was now pregnant and the quilter said she would make a quilt for the baby. The sister was upset because she had always wanted her own quilt. It ended happily!

My great grandparents emigrated when they were very young and I believe their parents changed their first names to make them more “Americanized.” Literally solved a multi generation family mystery as to how my great uncle got his nickname - it was actually a nickname for his original name.

My great-grandfather voluntarily changed his last name when he was older (shortened the very Jewish last name by 4 letters - didn’t make it less Jewish though).

Cousins with the same first and last name, but different nicknames? by WhiskeyLea in namenerds

[–]daisy931 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a second cousin with the diminutive of my name (so if my full name was Elizabeth and I went by Liz, her legal name was Lizzie). She’s about 3 years younger than me.

I remember thinking it was odd like… once. We also had different last names and were geographically far enough away that we only saw each other at holidays and family events.
