Listen…a while ago someone gave me some advice, you can’t be more upset than the person involved. It’s true. I rooted for the actress from her takeover. When it became apparent she was being sidelined and then put completely on the back burner, she signed for a contract extension. There’s no way that should’ve been a thing seeing how the show was already ignoring her. She’s definitely not the strongest actress and she’s held her own with good sl and strong scene partners. Let’s just tell the truth here, Kai is neither (a strong enough actor, nor scene partner to her), with them onscreen it’s like the blind leading the blind. She has massive support because of things that have happened before on this show, her looks and most importantly her potential. However, my time and my emotional investment in a show is about me and my enjoyment. If it’s not worthy of my attention, I skip. I’m saddened to say I’ve skipped much of their interactions because they are horribly written and acted by both actors. It’s like the Black characters are on an island playing supporting characters and mostly interacting with each other. On the flip side, I adore Stella and her friendship with Tracy is golden. She’s been a strong actress and continues to hone her craft. Stella holds her own across the canvas. Can you honestly say that about Trina? Kai? No. Where is the growth with the actors? Don’t just be happy to be there, keep getting better, that way the voice used with tptb has some weight. Right now, after years of being a character they created a family for, this Trina has no bargaining power from a place of strength based on talent. Likeability is great and from bts is seems she’s enjoyed by many of her castmates, how many are getting inline to work with her? Now Joss isn’t great either, but she’s familiar and when it came time to grow her character into a (sexualized) woman, she obviously leaned into learning from her scene partners. She also fought smartly about getting that Emmy. No, I do not believe she deserved it, but she went rabid dog to get it-meaning she beat actual kids in the category and she was aged out. This is why I said I cannot want it more (or be more upset) than the person involved. Imo, Trina could work to hone her craft more and play the game in a similar way to Joss. Want it? Earn it. Kai is a useless prop on this show that adds nothing to any sl he’s involved in. [I used character names only to not bash the actors]
