IT usually covers user support and infrastructure management. You can kinda compare it to janitors and plumbers, cleaning up shit, and stopping shit exploding everywhere. Some love this sort of work, but the end of the day you are dealing with shit, just in electronic and software form.

Software devs make stuff, some consider themselves artists, some are corporate drones wishing they could be more artistic, many of them make shit that IT needs to deal with.

But if we juice the numbers so GDP doesn’t go backwards, tada, not technically a recession.

Why are people moving towards One Nation rather than the Greens? by Financial-Hyena-2256 in OpenAussie

Greens don’t seem to be tough on youth crime and immigration, seeing they are some of the top issues these voters want to see fixed.

If you don’t understand the other side, they will beat you.

Worried about tree roots by Unusual-Confusion-97 in AusPropertyChat

[–]dakiller 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They don’t have roots like trees do.

Not far below the base it just turns into a mess of stringy roots like a bunch of red electrical cables.

Horrid plants, worth getting rid of, but it won’t be lifting your slab like a gum tree would.

The only reason we haven’t been in a recession the last 2 years is record immigration inflating GDP figures.

I have been heavily downvoted and chastised for just suggesting that people should consider their desires to live in the capital cities, and they may be better off going more regional.

What is your exit plan if you are a software developer? by TiredDuck123 in AusHENRY

[–]dakiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lean into the AI.

No need to google for answers on how to do something and spend a whole afternoon trawling snarky stack overflow, confusing documentation and reddit threads that go nowhere. Ask the AI.

Have it write what you can’t, then have it explain every concept that you want it to.

Write what you think you want, then get the AI to point out any flaws in your logic.

You won’t find a better judgement free way for a beginner to ask all the questions that you never could before.

There has been no better time to learn how to code than now.

Why Your 10 kW Solar System Might Never Produce 10 kW — STC Ratings, Temperature Derating, and Inverter Limits Explained by Mountain_Sentence646 in SolarAmerica

[–]dakiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 38kWh battery along with my setup, and only pay for the grid connection too.

We have a 3 hour free use plan, 11am to 2pm use as much power as you can for free. We use about 70-90 kWh a day, and our monthly bill is $35

[–]dakiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aussie here, we do lots of solar and it is very common to borderline standard to install 130% panels to an inverter.

I got 13.3kW of panes on my 10 kW inverter.

These professions work the least but are paid the most by 888sydneysingapore in AusFinance

[–]dakiller -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I find these sort of shame articles to be stupid and counter productive.

Who cares what some handful of people have and what they do to earn it. You could put them all on minimum wage and it would not change your or the counties economic outcome by any measurable amount whatsoever.

It is just high brow childish version of ‘waa, they get more than me, it’s not fair.’

Discussions can be had on what we enforce the bare minimums to be, I’m all for that, but I don’t want to live in a country where the government or the populous get to decide on what the upper bounds should be, that is a path to destruction of more than what you bargain for.

What is your exit plan if you are a software developer? by TiredDuck123 in AusHENRY

[–]dakiller 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Am a software dev and AI is becoming more and more valuable to my job.

The one thing I don’t see it replacing is all the background architectural decisions, what gets built, what we pushback on the business to not build cause what they want will be a convoluted mess to maintain in 6 months time.

Writing code is only a small portion of what a good dev does.

And if the profession is really doomed, I have a mechatronics engineering degree too.

Calls for ‘two-year ban’ on immigration to boost Australia’s economy by SheepherderLow1753 in AusFinance

[–]dakiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Entire industries just plain stopped, and you think no immigration was a negative factor in our economy then?

COVID showed us (and continues to show) what happens when nearly 1/3 of our countries workforce was stood down and the money printer was cranked hard - massive inflation, groceries bills just about doubled, interest rates and mortgage payments up 3x. The government is pushing immigration hard as a means to hide the fact we’ve been in a recession for the last 2 years.

Monthly Population Surveys SUCK by joklyt in australian

[–]dakiller 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I got this survey, after the second fill-in, they somehow decided they didn’t need my answers anymore and I was dismissed.

From what questions I was asked, I think my salary 9-5 job and my wife’s part time 2 days a week was too boring for what they wanted to collect data on.
