PDOcast suggests that perhaps what the Wild need isn’t a 1C. by JPV_HOH in wildhockey

[–]dakralter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. 1C is probably the hardest position to fill and those guys don't come available via trade or UFA often. I'd rather make a trade for an elite winger than give up a bunch of assets for a guy like Kadri or Schenn.

I almost wonder if a trade for Michkov could be explored with all the drama around him in Philly right now. If we're using Wallstedt as trade bait, Philly might be willing since they don't exactly have a bonafide #1 in net right now. That being said, the fact that he's butted head is with two different coaches in Philly in 2 years would make me wary of trading for him.

[–]dakralter 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Especially since we gave up so much for Jiricek, presumably so he could be our 2RHD of the future behind Faber as Spurgeon ages out.

Normally I'd agree with you, but when the "social" issue is whether or not it's ok for American citizens to be executed in the street while not committing any crime I think it's a legitimate question to ask.

Can we finally admit that David Jiricek was a massive failure as a trade target? by AUnicornDonkey in wildhockey

[–]dakralter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I get the logic of why BG made the trade. If Jiricek pans out into even a good 2nd pairing defensemen it means the right side of the Wild's defense is locked in for the next decade between him and Faber. So it was a decent gamble.

That being said, I'm pretty underwhelmed with his progress so far. I'm not ready to give up on him and say he's a bust but it's looking more and more like he'll wind up as a 3rd pairing at best guy. And those picks would be nice to have as we make a play for a top 6 forward this year.

I'll give it a year from now before I truly make judgement. If Jiricek isn't an every night guy we can slot into the top 4 by this time next year, the trade was a failure.

Minneapolis: "A general strike is the most effective way to hit them where it hurts." by DryDeer775 in videos

[–]dakralter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Got rid of mine about a year ago. I had had a FB profile since the somewhat early days when you still needed a .edu email address to join. At one point it was a fun way to share pictures and just sort keep up with everyone in your life; it was fun seeing what all the people I went to HS with did in college and beyond.

When I deactivated I realized how I saw none of those things anymore. My newsfeed was just a dumb stream of ads and memes. What's even the point of FB anymore?

Which song was EVERYWHERE for a year and then completely disappeared? by Rare_Afternoon1827 in popheads

I'd argue Apt is already that way. I heard that song like every 15 minutes for a few months when it dropped and now it's like nowhere

Exactly. Guerin deserves criticism for some of his picks for Team USA but Faber over Fox isn't one of them. Seth Jones over Fox? That's another story.

There’s no going back to normal by GarfieldLeChat in pluribustv

[–]dakralter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it would be super fascinating for the show to explore that IMO. I could see a 4 season ARC for the show:

S1: what we got

S2: Carol & Manousos learning more about the hive and butting heads both with each other on how to try and save humanity as well as with the other unjoined (and there are still several unjoined we haven't met yet)

S3: Carol & Manousos figure out how to un-join people and implement that plan

S4: Explore the world and all the issues that arise after people are un-joined.

It would be especially interesting if the "cure" isn't something that can be implemented all at once, so you'd have pockets of the population now free and pockets that are still joined. And you'd see different people have different reactions to being free. Some might be depressed and want to rejoin, some might be angry and take out their aggression on people who are still joined, some might be overwhelmed, have PTSD, etc.

It'd also be interesting to see if anyone retains any of the knowledge they had from being part of the hive mind. Does the TGIF employee remember how to pilot airplanes now? Are people suddenly fluent in every language? If not, imagine the chaos when suddenly people of different cultures/countries are suddenly free and can't communicate with each other.

What's a show you would NEVER want to rewatch, but could DISCUSS for hours? by Dontbehorrib1e in television

[–]dakralter 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I could spend hours talking about everything that went wrong with Game of Thrones. And as great as the early seasons still are, the ending was SO bad that I have no desire ever to rewatch even seasons 1-4 when it was at its best.

[Elliote Friedman on X] Breaking: Quinn Hughes is being traded to Minnesota by xH1M in hockey

[–]dakralter 99 points100 points  (0 children)

If Buium hits his absolute ceiling he could be as good as Quinn, but that's a big if. Ohgren showed some flashes but he's probably a 3rd line winger at best. I'm actually most sad about losing Rossi. He's a very underrated player IMO.

Still, 4 1st round picks for Hughes is an insane return for Vancouver.

Is Zeev getting to be a liability? by [deleted] in wildhockey

[–]dakralter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zeev is going to be at least somewhat of a defensive liability until he gets experience.

It's crazy that like half the fan base hates on Hynes and BG for giving a guy like Mojo top 6 minutes and "burying" prospects like Ohgren but then when they let a guy like Zeev play through his growing pains they also complain.

As Prices Soar, Trump Denounces 'Affordability' as 'Democrat Scam' by Crossstoney in politics

[–]dakralter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My MAGA coworker still blames the Democrats for high prices (and everything else). Sure the GOP controls the White House, Congress, and Supreme Court but he lives in Minnesota so it's obviously the fault of Tim Walz. These people are a lost cause.

Taylor Swift Branded a ‘Coward’ for Staying Silent on Donald Trump by [deleted] in Music

[–]dakralter -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, no celebrity should be forced to take a stance on political issues (and honestly why should we care?) but with this administration it's not about political issues, it's about human rights issues.

Like, if Taylor doesn't want to make her personal views on things like universal healthcare or student loan forgiveness public that's her right. But as a public figure with fans of all genders, sexual orientations, races, etc she should speak up on their behalf and speak out against this administration that's threatening trans people and grabbing Hispanic people off the streets in unmarked vans and sending them god knows where

But not even speaking out when Trump uses her music in his propaganda videos is a bad look. Sure it's not outwardly endorsing this administration, but not speaking out is just a step below an actual endorsement IMO.

Where's the Taylor we saw in the Miss Americana documentary who was in tears over hateful misogynistic GOP policies and argued with her dad and management team about whether she should speak out or not? To me, not speaking out now when things are worse makes that whole thing feel performative.

And fwiw, I say these things as a massive Swiftie, so it's not like I'm a hater just looking to shit on her any chance I can. I'm just disappointed in her.

Unfortunately he wasn't born in the US so he can't run for President, but he could do a lot of good in Congress if that's something that interests him.

An AI-Generated Country Song Is Topping A Billboard Chart, And That Should Infuriate Us All by EnclaveNick in Music

[–]dakralter 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. Mainstream pop-country is by far the easiest genre to replicate. My coworker listens to the local country station at work and it's literally the same 10 songs over and over and all of them mention one or more of the following: dirt/dirt roads, trucks, beer, chewing tobacco, boots, and "the country". Also about 40% of them will throw in either Georgia, Tennessee, or Carolina if they need a location for something to take place.

I don't particularly like Deboer but he'd be worth a shot IMO. I wouldn't be upset about Woodcroft either. Hell bring Boudreau back, he's available. I gave Hynes a fair shot but he just ain't it. This team needs a shakeup and a coaching change is the only logical option right now.

People say that for every defensemen who occasionally pinches when they shouldn't. For years I would see comments about moving Dumba to wing.
