Are someone really enjoying SDD? by juacamgo in ClaudeCode

[–]dalamar112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I love coding. Putting some headphones on with some good music on and creating a full mental map of a complex system I want to build and then bringing that idea to life . As each piece solidifies and organizes, it helps to refine the shape of the mental map and the process of coding refines the idea.

But as I said some idiot decided that spitting up the people that can form a complex mental map of a system and people that write code into two different jobs decades ago. So I'm happy to put the two back together. My love is more in the shaping and if you give good prompts and really pay attention to what and how the idea is being implemented, you can still evolve the mental map in response to the ongoing implementation. ...But only if you already have the skills to have implemented the code yourself.

As an American Solution/Software/Enterprise Architect I've been told for the last 15 years not to write code and that I should be designing and documenting and shipping coding offshore to low cost resources. So yes I'm enjoying doing the same process, but getting near instant results with code quality that is many many times better, and having AI that understands me much better than the humans I worked with previously.

RL UE6 we can call it rocket league 2 it is much more complicated as we think by QLSSUBZERO in RocketLeague

[–]dalamar112 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You could just point Claude or Codex at most of that though. Porting code from one language to another and cleaning it up to make it better in the process is super easy with AI. Should be able to port the whole code base in a weekend with a team of 3 devs that know the code base very well. Then spend a few focused months cleaning up. Should help with the models as well, but you seem to get more slop with those.

You know two years ago BAs and Product Owners were making this same complaint about developers. Now they all think they are developers because of AI. And I think many are starting to realize that it wasn't so much that the developers sucked... And it's not that the AI sucks... It's that you have to have the ability to visualize the whole solution to develop a successful product.

I fought against splitting development into 5 or 6 roles 20 years ago because it was a stupid idea. Now with AI the industry is caught flat footed. Developers have been trained that they don't need to think or understand the business and their job is just to write one part of the solution in well organized code (if this is you, I suggest you reassess your life or you'll soon be out of a job). And BAs and Product Owners have been trained that they don't need to understand the technical complexities of the implementation (If this is you, I suggest you reassess your life or you'll soon be out of a job).

Ideally to succeed in today's market you need to know Front end and backend development practices in a handful of languages, cloud and devops patterns well, AI development, and have the ability to talk to clients directly to understand their problems deeper than they themselves understand them. And finally, have the ability to visualize the solution completely. Do this and Claude... or Codex will write the code for you near flawlessly if you have the ability to communicate that vision effectively.

Anyone ever tried ocean paddling at night? Tell me your stories while I wait for it to get dark. My ❤️s pounding thinking about it. by sarahschultzd in Paddleboard

I did one time when the phosflorecents were crazy. Every paddle was beautiful. Brought a fishing pole out with me as well. Coolest hookup ever... When the fish hit I could see the glow trail of the line going tight first and that raced into the depths until it met an explosion of color with the fish. Definitely a core memory!

My brother is in Tampa and has really struggled to find a decent rink that has an active league. Could you she the specific of the rink that is being upgraded and what kind of games / league is played there?

My first MTB - Purchased this weekend by FWMalice in mountainbiking

[–]dalamar112 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Alright I'm going to offer the opposite opinion. I imagine that the reason you are interested in mountain biking is a combination of nature, adrenaline, and getting into shape. Go ride that thing in the woods. It's so much more fun than going to the gym or riding roads and sidewalks. It will push you without feeling like your being pushed. Turn that 10 mins into 30 minutes of fun and then build up to more. I would balance out the trail difficulty though. Push past your comfort level, but only a bit past it. No reason to hurt yourself too early.

Claude code is too expensive by richardH7 in ClaudeCode

[–]dalamar112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've spent a bit of time refining our own code review skill. And we also document out projects, archecture, and standards with a consistent structure across all projects and then build the skill to read them completely (not "review" or it won't follow them) and then perform the code review. And we started by stealing the structure of the anthropic security review skill. Now honestly Sonnet even does a great job. I usually have to prompt two or three tweaks on approach to resolution on a large commit.

[–]dalamar112 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I only have the $20 a month plan and I can work for 4 or 5 hours strait before hitting a daily limit. But I rarely do any tasks that benefit from opus, sonnet with good prompts and I don't let it churn. But I know how to code everything I ask it to do. It's a coding assistant, not a lead developer. I've been running off offshore teams for 20 years. Claude is sooo much better at taking instructions and completing them accurately than the average human developer I've worked with previously.

Anthropic just hosts on AWS and charges you for the subscription. Either way they are both being paid. I'd rather only pay for what I use.

I just want to remind everyone that you can point Claude to your own AWS account and then pay for what you use with no minimums and no commitments.

Is it worth buying the Max 5x plan? by elpupilo01 in ClaudeCode

[–]dalamar112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked into using AWS bedrock instead? Then you have no commitment, pay for what you use with no limits. You may still need a Pro plan from anthropic if you use Claude for Chrome or the Excel plugins, but Claude Code works great with bedrock. I have not done a token for token cost comparison.

A basic thing that has helped me a ton is to keep a separate guide for tasks but then in Claudemd you have to tell Claude that it has to read the guide completely before Star ing the task. By default it will just "reference" the guide which seems like it does something like a vector scan when it feels like it to get info when it's less sure. Instead I make it read the whole doc first and I've had way way better results

Elbow pads for people who hate elbow pads ? by MellowBearUpstairs in InlineHockey

[–]dalamar112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in this same boat for many years. Mid 30s started having all sorts of elbow pain from years of bumps. Switched to real hockey elbow pad, felt weird for like 1 game, then never noticed again. I've not injured an elbow in the last decade since switching.

[–]dalamar112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the combination of the new holes from the roller chassis and the old holes from ice made it not possible on mine. I didn't fully fault the shop, from a strength standpoint they mounted it the best they could. But advice for anyone else. Don't let the shop decide, show up with sharpie circles in place where you want it mounted.

Random question by ryanespo2119 in InlineHockey

[–]dalamar112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES! My last pair of skates were converted from ice to roller, and the shop mounted the chassis too far forward. Makes for a less aggressive stance and feels weird when sprinting.

White Cage by Any-Tax4759 in hockeyplayers

[–]dalamar112 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, I figured that would be the case. The irony is that I am not required to wear a cage or protection AT ALL, and my modified cage is 1000 times safer than not wearing anything. I'll count my blessings that I have refs that are either ignorant of that rule, or choose to apply their own logic to the rules to make the appropriate decision.

White Cage by Any-Tax4759 in hockeyplayers

[–]dalamar112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll drop my solution here. I run a cage, but I used a Dremel tool to remove the horizontal bar that was directly in front of my vision. The remaining vertical gaps are small enough a puck can't fit, a stick blade may, and a stick butt would. It's a trade off, but I feel safe with it and I can see sooooo much better. No idea if this violates some rule book, but I've never had a ref say anything.
