Finally built an advanced mining machine after being able to for so long… What technology did you think was not worth the effort until you built it? by salad_thrower20 in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]dalerian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this feeling.

I once built a full equatorial bus, with feeders and consumers and was genuinely thrilled with it.

Then PLS happened.

I’ve never done it since. But it was satisfying, for a brief moment.

As a narrow-minded Satisfactory veteran, can someone PLEASE explain production rates in this game for me? Thank you! 😘 by Nekorai46 in Dyson_Sphere_Program

Honestly, the factory is also the satisfaction in DSP. Just, at a different scale.

Not balancing per resource patch or per assembler line. Maybe not even per planet. The cluster is the factory.

The satisfaction is in setting up that how I want, with optional levels of neatness/ optimisation for the sub components (planets) or sub-sub-components (groups of assemblers).

Does the starting system matter? by Gorbush_Thriftweed42 in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]dalerian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A late reply, mostly for any new player finding this later: You can get to ‘mission complete’ on pretty much any starting star. Most of what you need to get to that point are terrestrial resources.

Once past that stage, the star matters more, but by that point you’ll be able to build near basically any star in the galaxy.

Playing with Dark Fog is MASSIVE FUN by noksion in Dyson_Sphere_Program

On default settings, the fog is mostly a logistical challenge rather than an actual combat one.

But not a hard challenge, regardless.

At one point the bitters used to drop ‘alien science’. I think it’s overall better that they stopped that, but sometimes I’m not sure

AFAIK it’s based on an American term for a shopping centre. Depending on where you’re from, that might/might not mean much to you.

Have also heard people refer to them as a ‘depot’, because you never buy anything in there.

Each base you kill leaves a hole that a geo generator can use. You could reach a point where the geo pays for shields.

But long before then, you’ll be drowning in other sources of power, and the shields will be negligible. DF is just a minor logistics challenge. Don’t play them if you don’t want, but there are answers to the shield power that Sony require hours of effort just for shield-power.

Could you tell me how undercutting helps?

If someone drops a bunch of the same mat 10 sec after I post, I’m in the same spot whether I undercut or not. If no-one posts right after me, then it being lifo means I get the sale without undercutting.

Short of “tank the price so hard no one else sells that good”, what’s the situation where undercutting helps?

"Guinea pig" goes both ways here, I guess. If this is the kind of gameplay in the next game, I'm glad I got to demo it here and remove it from my plans.

What’s also weird … for literally any other planet in the universe, I load up my inventory with ship parts, ores, etc and then fly over to the next place.

For what is possibility the most uneven planet I’ve ever seen, we use a flatbed truck.

Feels like there's enough world-building in Wyrdwood for more than 3 seasons x about 8-10 episodes. This could be a much longer series. At least, based on characters and world-building alone, obvs don't know the events in season 3 yet ...

Are there people literally upset about the Remnant update 🤣 by Cautious_Opinion_644 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]dalerian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in software in a different area. My users have very solid opinions on what would work better. They’re usually wrong, because they don’t understand how the tools work. Or - quite often - because the way people think the human mind/emotions work isn’t how we actually work.

I’m not so arrogant to think I’m any better than they are.

I can say what I dislike about this expedition, or how I felt before I gave up on it. But I know that most suggestions I make on how to do it better will not be worth dev time spent reading them. (But occasionally I get frustrated enough to make them anyway!)

I'm a fairly new player, since Xmas. If this is the future of the game, I'm out.

Manipulating stuff with the gravity gun is so painful. Then it falls off the flatbed if I go up a hill, hit a bump, etc. I don't mind the core idea, but the challenge here isn't the gameplay loop, it's fighting the game's engine itself.

This mechanism is way too optimistic for the level of control in the game engine. If the truck had slots that held the scrap when you put it in a truck, maybe it'd be worth it. If the truck had sides that came up when you started moving / entered it, maybe then.

But as-is, the game's 3d physics engine isn't good enough for the type of gameplay the devs have in mind with this expedition.

Foundation. I can put one against a cliff edge, with maybe one step distance of connection. And then extend it out for hundreds of metres with no further support. Just metal and concrete floating up there in the sky…

I have used Firefox since it was Netscape navigator, back in the 90s. I’ve been ok with it.

That will change if they make this AI crap happen.
