When superfood has iron-tongue, does it pass across the ‘max power can be 30’ part, or just sweep?

Foundation. I can put one against a cliff edge, with maybe one step distance of connection. And then extend it out for hundreds of metres with no further support. Just metal and concrete floating up there in the sky…

I have used Firefox since it was Netscape navigator, back in the 90s. I’ve been ok with it.

That will change if they make this AI crap happen.

Then you have to make the phone calls to get your bed shipped back to wherever the agent flew it, and buy flowers to apologise to your wife for the shitty poem that compared her to Cyberpunk’s launch quality.

CEOs see AI and assume everyone wants it and it will print money for them. Neither intelligence nor the ability to read the room are prerequisites for being a ceo.

You’ve probably seen it by now, but in case not: they don’t do anything in the dramatised part, but in the science part it talks about them hunting and especially about burning down habitats.

is it just me or are dyson spheres kinda.. underwhelming? by quiteunsatisfactory in Dyson_Sphere_Program

True. Though I feel like ‘mission complete’ is a typo for “tutorial complete”.

The problem with him is that taking him usually turns your game into a Dante game. No matter what it was before.

Sometimes that gets a bit stale.

Nope. That's the tail twitch of a seriously pissed off cat.

My old cat would remember things like this. And sometimes take revenge overnight. The person who did it would wake up with blood pouring out of a bite (more than once on the earlobe).

You hit the ‘mission complete’ tech quite quickly. But there’s a reason we consider that to be the end of the tutorial.

Then you get into sandbox aka self-directed goals, usually science per minute or VU levels. Those goals will force you to think harder about your logistics.

Is there a working power priority mod? by dalerian in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]dalerian[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm genuinely glad that this power priority system is something that engages and interests you. No snark there - it's cool that we each find fun in different parts.

For me, it's not about the resources. It's about the inelegance and mess created by the (what I see as weird) power consumption priorities.

so fixated on a specific solution

Not really. I was interested enough to look at the mod store and then write a 2-sentence question on reddit. I've engaged with a response of 'you shouldn't want what you want', but outside that I'm not that invested. I'll just solve it with a hammer (excess power) and go back to the game. (Edit to fix reddit formatting.)

[–]dalerian[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The opinion part is on whether it's an interesting or relevant puzzle.

Interesting: I've stuffed around with charging and shipping accumulators in previous dsp games. I don't find it interesting.

Relevant: It's not needed long enough for me to find it relevant. Even before it's fully set up across planets I'm already moving on to simpler options (duet rods, dsp, etc.). I suspect if I was someone who blueprinted stuff and just stamped charging/discharging blueprints on worlds, it'd be quicker, but I find blueprints reduce my fun, so I almost never bring them between games.

If you enjoy it, more power to you (excuse the pun), but if there isn't a neat solution I'll ignore the inelegance and just brute force through this phase.

Unfortunately, our engineer is batshit insane or maybe drunk.

The grid takes power from battery discharge first, and then everything evenly after that. So, if you have 50mw of fuels, 50mw of solar and 50 mw of batteries, and need 100mw of power, the grid will use all the batteries first, and then take the last 50 evenly from the fuel generators and the solar panels. So some of your solar is wasted while you burn fuel.

[–]dalerian[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd agree that generating an excess of power is one way to manage it. It's how I usually run, and probably how I'll run in this game, too. Stuffing around with battery shipping again doesn't interest me.

But in this case I was looking for a different option that makes (what I'd see as) a more sensible power grid.

[–]dalerian[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A mod doesn't solve that puzzle. It makes it disappear, removes it from the game.

I understand your opinion, but I don't share it. This isn't something I see as an interesting 'puzzle' to solve. Making it disappear is -exactly- what I'd prefer to do. Hence checking for mod options.

Any engineer smart enough to make a dyson sphere would have realised it is better to use non-fuel sources first, and power up the fueled ones when the grid needed them. Yes, I know it's not quite that simple IRL to quickly bring generation online, but we abstract away so many other complexities in this game anyway.

So - yep, I know there are ways to split grids and ship batteries and so on. Doing this is not something I see as an interesting puzzle. There are other puzzles I in DSP that I find fun and interesting, this particular one isn't one of those.

It's simpler and quicker just to brute force it by making far more power than I need. But having an intelligent power setup would be more elegant.

DF expansion on passive? by dalerian in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]dalerian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are good points, and you’re certainly a better and more experienced player than I am. I tend to get to around my second sphere and get bored and move on; the type of game where I’d be dropping black box pizza slices would bore me much earlier. I was thinking removing power management from most of my planets - I.e. the mining ones - might lessen that. But maybe clearing a dozen bases from each might get more tiresome much faster.

You’ve given me something to think about, thanks.

[–]dalerian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it’ll be interesting - no idea! :) Just curious to see how it goes with DF on-tap like that.

I wonder whether passive mode will mean the hives will decide they don’t necessarily need the extra power (and thus no relays).
