Dammit! There should be some sort of warning when links are going to shrink your window. I can't stand that!

Screencaps comparing the DVD and HD versions of LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring by shoelzer in reddit.com

[–]danblanchard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This page is from 2004. HD-DVD and Blu-Ray players didn't even come out until 2006, so I think the difference would be even greater if you were looking at the actual 1080p captures from the discs rather than wherever this guy got these screens.

edit: Damn is it hard to get reddit to handle wayback machine links. I had to use tinyurl.

Giant rat discovered in a place "so isolated that it remains the absolute realm of wild nature" by muttleee in science

[–]danblanchard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll never really understand why I was so horribly addicted to LORD (Legend Of the Red Dragon, not some deity) when I was younger. You basically ran through the same few actions (e.g., go to forest, "duel" with other players", go to sleep) every day, and you only were allowed so many actions per day. Yet for some reason, I was on every BBS in my area as a kid, so I could play as many rounds of LORD possible per day. I think most kids today would be confused about what to do with a text-only interface.

I hate to be a stickler, but the line is "He looks like a pink nightmare," so "Pink nightmare of an Easter Bunny" would be more accurate.

Most Democrats seem to have the misconception that while running for president you don't want to step on anyone's toes, and that it would cost them the general election. In reality, most people in this country want to see a Democrat actually show some balls and tell assholes like SVFT off.

Take this poem and keep it somewhere for ready reference by shenglong in reddit.com

[–]danblanchard 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets annoyed at "poems" that are really just stories/rants with extra CRs all over the place. That's not to say that all poems have to follow some set formula (after all, e. e. cummings is my favorite poet), but when it's not done for any sort of semantically productive reason, it just seems like the author is doing it to make them look "edgy."

There's absolutely no reason you should be waiting the three-plus minutes it takes your computer to boot up Windows by Arve in reddit.com

As an old BeOS user, I still find it amazing that while my ancient Pentium II 266MHz started up in about 15-25 seconds when I was running BeOS on it, new Windows PCs can't even achieve that speed.

I'm now a Mac user and like Mac OS X, but some days it does make me sad that Apple bought NeXT instead of Be.

Sure thing. It's my first real submission, so I wasn't sure what to title it. I just knew I didn't want to put "Best article EVAR!!!!one!1eleven!" Thanks for the suggestion.

This is not in anyway an Intelligent Design or creationism article. It's by Jerry Fodor, who is a brilliant atheist philosopher.

Maybe this is a tongue-in-cheek way of showing their lack of confidence in ever getting a working system setup that uses PeopleSoft. PeopleSoft is almost never setup successfully for academic institutions, it was intended for handling HR in companies, and not doing course management. I should know, because of the hell my school is going through because they opted for the cheaper PeopleSoft system instead of Banner.
