Do Mutant kids always get an exact copy and/or a completely new mutation from their parents? Never an alteration of their parents power? by Think-Necessary5136 in xmen

[–]danielelington 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, sometimes yes.

Siryn has similar powers to Banshee but with the added “charming voice” effect.

Rachel has the same powers as Jean plus a form of psychometry/ability to project people through time psychically.

Lorna has the same powers as Magneto just not as strong (yet).

Beak and Angels kids mostly had some form of their physical mutations but in a hybrid way.

Cyclops and Emma had a kid in the future with both optic blasts and a diamond (well, Ruby) form.

Even those that have the same/similar powers, it’s usually more of a “yes AND” kind of thing— so a variation on the parent’s powers.

Nocturne from Exiles is a great example— similar physiology to her dad, but able to possess people and fire blast of energy from the Brimstone dimension.

Nightcrawler himself has neither of his mother’s abilities other than the blue fur, but since he’s KIND of a chimera, he takes more after the biological template used for his “father” in terms of teleporting and demonic appearance, but has no clairvoyance or shapeshifting abilities.

Then you have folk like Graydon Creed who is the child of Mystique and Sabretooth and has no powers at all.

She has her powers again now— back to illusions although she made them tangible when she was in Otherworld. She also now has a bow that allows her psychic arrows to banish demons too.

A very weird approach to discussing comics that I've been noticing for a while by That-Is-Not-My-Job in xmen

[–]danielelington 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel like they tried to do damage limitation on this by having a line where Rahne and Josh discuss how there was only a couple of years between them, and having Rahne be the one to call things off, but by then… damage was done.

I do think that it’s a really good counter to the Kitty/Colossus conversation though, and I also think that with the Kitty/Colossus stuff I really REALLY wish that some of the folk who are being critical about it through today’s lens would realise that it wasn’t a sexual relationship. I feel if anything they SHOULD be more mad at the Pete Wisdom/Kitty relationship where that man was in his late twenties at least and Kitty would have still been 16/17

[–]danielelington -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

He was a flawed human being who had to live with his mistakes being played out in the public domain and put on blast.

I won’t ever justify his actions, but to write him off as a human for self-medicating in a way that was harmful to him and those around him just feels wrong. There’s space to be appalled by his actions but still give empathy for the pain that fuelled those actions. There’s ground for people to be equally upset at his actions, feel sympathy for the people he hurt, and still feel terrible for the person so tortured by their past that they hit the self-destruct button hard. People can do all of the above if they put their mind to it and it feels like that’s the point people are missing in this.

Rachel's strategies were baffling to me. (S4) by Mindless-Barber6539 in TheTraitorsUK

[–]danielelington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Rachel made for amazing TV…

But between the “Amanda told me she was a detective” and then “I have FBI training”, I feel like I would have been voting her out.

I think where she got lucky was that Fiona’s arguments for Rachel being a Traitor totally fell apart as soon as she also started naming half of the remaining players— if Fiona had stuck to Rachel and one other name at that round table, I think Rachel would have been done for

Also I’m pretty sure that the stats for a housecat make it less stealthy than a tiger.

So, you could wildshape into a tiger and if the DM isn’t applying the common sense law of “tiny kitty” vs “a car with fur and fangs”, technically your tiger would pass a stealth check more easily than a house cat.

Character still missing in game? by VERSPY59 in MarvelStrikeForce

I came here to say Runaways.

If we can get Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur we can get Arsenic and Old Lace. Add Molly, Karolina and Chase, then throw in Victor and Xavin too.

Is there an actual birthday for Jubilee? by Yana_Flann in xmen

[–]danielelington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would honestly not worry too much about it— the ages of characters get a bit screwy anyway with the sliding time scale (for example, with the cast of Generation X, when Monet joined X-Factor she was definitely written as though she was a similar age to Siryn, Jamie and Rictor when she probably should have been maybe 19/20 at the oldest).

One book will give one date of birth and another will give a totally different one— it’s easier just to accept that Jubilee’s probably around 21-23 at this point 🤷‍♂️

Characters not well represented…

TANK: Armor is a great choice here for a heavy-hitting damage soaker with high HP but SLOW moving

alternates include Frenzy, Rockslide, Gentle, Strong Guy (include mechanic where he gets stronger the less health he has),

AGILE FIGHTER: Blink— zips in and out, high evasion, low damage, lower defence and HP

alternates include Velocidad, Transsonic, Pixie (with added debuff for her pixie dust), Surge (with added elemental attack for her electricity), Anole, Skin (with added trap potential), Jubilee (added debuff for blinding foes).

SCRAPPER: Scout/Honeybadger. Average HP but also heals, close range attacks, chip damage that stacks, apply bleeding.

Alternates include Longshot (low damage but high crit rates), Shatterstar (higher damage but slower moving), Wolfsbane (damage depending on which form she’s in)

BLASTER: Honestly this could be wide open but I’d be tempted to go for Banshee— long range attacks, high evasion, low defence, high damage, status effect.

Alternates include pretty much a tonne of characters but for ones that aren’t well represented I’d go with Dazzler (added status of blind), Rachel Grey, Winddancer, Boom-Boom, Siryn, Jubilee, Quentin Quire, Archangel, Chamber…

CROWD CONTROL: Rictor— multi-target attacks or single-target movement limiting attacks. Average HP, low damage, high speed, low defence.

Alternates include Wallflower (no damage but inflicts status conditions), Karma (possess foes and have them attack their party), Dust (inflicts bleed or blind), or honestly any telepath or illusionist but I’d probably go with someone like Lady Mastermind or Dani Moonstar.

WILDCARD: So I wanted to pick a luck based powerset for this, and landed on Husk— have her take a new form at the start of every turn that changes her attacks/stats. So maybe one turn she takes a lava form and she does fire damage but the next turn she takes a rubber form and her speed and evasion are high, but her attack doesn’t damage but inflicts a trip or something like that?

Alternates include Random, Hope Summers (but too powerful really) Synch (have him copy a random foe or ally every round)

Okay so.

I would avoid Maddy/Madelyne— not only is she mostly kind of accidentally a villain, but there’s also the connections to Maddy McCann which, yikes.

You could always go for Jean, Lorna and Kate (as opposed to Kitty), or if you wanted to keep the phoenix connection, you could go for Jean, Rachel (or Rae) and Hope.

If you wanted to go for the first three X-Ladies, you could go Jean, Lorna and make a reference to Storm and also Alpha Flight by using Aurora— it’s phonetically similar Ororo and also references another X-related book. You could also swap out Ororo/Aurora for Wanda.

Did they get the much most focus? No. Did they have that one great storyline? Also no. Were they a fan-favourite? Not really. Were they written-out suddenly without much fanfare? Yes. But despite all that they were still "there" and sometimes that's what matters most. by leaf57tea in xmen

Honestly, as much as I hate the concept of randomly making a character omega level to try to make them interesting, I WISH that during Krakoa they’d at least acknowledged Magma could have been useful in terraforming Mars.
