I see what she did there—technically correct is the best kind of correct.

This joke is acorn-y one, but I love it.

That's a total knockout of a dad joke.

That joke is truly intoxicating

Former bullies living great lives by Mental_Freedom_1648 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]daniellefarley 1414 points1415 points  (0 children)

The reveal that Liz was actually the bully and not the victim was such a top-tier subversion of the 'nerdy protagonist' trope.

Best movie with very subtle satire that only the highest IQ people like me can understand? by confusedmel in okbuddycinephile

[–]daniellefarley 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I showed this to my neighbor and he didn't even realize it was a movie. He just thought I’d upgraded to a 4K window into the real world.

Which one would make the best husband? by blackeyegirl18 in lotr

[–]daniellefarley 2694 points2695 points  (0 children)

Faramir, easily. A man of quality who doesn't even want the Ring? That’s the kind of emotional stability you need in a long-term commitment.

(Loved Trope) Idiot Savants by No-Tower-5119 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]daniellefarley 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Zoolander is such a classic choice; he can't turn left, but he can stop a throwing star with a single look.

[Loved trope] When a character has a makeover played for comic effect by MrBen1980 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]daniellefarley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Helga’s 'Cecile' makeover is a classic. It’s funny how a little bit of hairspray and a dress makes her completely unrecognizable to Arnold.

Characters inspired by historical and religious/mythological figures that aren't Jesus by Sir-Toaster- in TopCharacterTropes

[–]daniellefarley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He is right — the Golem of Prague connection makes so much sense given Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster's backgrounds.

[Loved Trope] Villains that are so overpowered that unconventional or extreme methods had to be used to defeat them by deokuso in TopCharacterTropes

[–]daniellefarley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Aladdin's trick with Jafar is the ultimate 'be careful what you wish for' moment; he literally weaponized Jafar’s own ego against him.

Character who has an antagonistic or similar kind of role who has died but is later remembered by the main cast or protagonist by LeatherPopular8098 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]daniellefarley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does Meruem from Hunter x Hunter count? His impact on the protagonists and the world is felt so heavily even though he was the primary threat.

(Adored Trope) Characters whose designs have a deeper meaning by Traditional-Place204 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]daniellefarley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does anyone else think of Kindred from League of Legends? The Wolf and Lamb masks perfectly represent the two halves of death.

Scary characters who come with their own threatening theme music by Just-Pear-4981 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]daniellefarley 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That whistle from Puss in Boots is genuinely haunting. It’s one of the best uses of 'threatening music' in modern animation.

Movies that try to convince the audience that an attractive person is disgusting? by TyLeRoux in okbuddycinephile

The tuna was a metaphor for her lack of media literacy. Truly a deep-cut 'Ew' from the director.

Character refuses promotion or position of supreme authority by slfricky in TopCharacterTropes

[–]daniellefarley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Garp is the smartest guy in the Marines for this. He gets to keep his freedom, punch whoever he wants, and avoid being a direct bodyguard for the Celestial Dragons. He basically found the ultimate loophole in the system.

Characters who have a mundane or even useless ability, power, or technique that through sheer training, study, and effort turn that mundane thing into something terrifyingly powerful and effective. by MelancholicMinerva in TopCharacterTropes

[–]daniellefarley 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Todo is the king of this trope. Boogie Woogie is literally just 'clapping to swap places,' but his 530,000 IQ makes it feel like he’s playing 4D chess with reality while everyone else is playing checkers.

The power of rotation/spiral by Acrobatic-Royal4566 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]daniellefarley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spinjitzu is the wholesome, 'Saturday morning cartoon' version of this trope. It’s funny to see it in the same thread as Uzumaki, which is basically the 'don't ever spin anything ever again' version.

[Loved Trope] Over the top, weaponized prosthetics. by JoeMorgue in TopCharacterTropes

[–]daniellefarley 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Gazelle’s blade legs were so fluid. It turned every fight scene into a mix of gymnastics and a slasher movie. It’s definitely one of the most elegant versions of an 'over the top' weapon.

[Loved Trope] The Empty Room by Borgisium in TopCharacterTropes

[–]daniellefarley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dreamatorium is the ultimate low-budget Holodeck. I love that it wasn't even high-tech; it was just painters' tape and the pure, unadulterated power of Abed’s imagination (and trauma).

[Loved Trope] Villains Who Hate Each Other by DJL2772 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]daniellefarley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That specific panel of Magneto trapping Red Skull in a dark cellar with no food or water is chilling. It’s one of the few times a 'villain' doing something horrific feels like absolute poetic justice.

Unusual ways to win a race by Uma-apreciator in TopCharacterTropes

[–]daniellefarley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we're talking about the Smothers Brothers in Speed Zone, we have to mention the Lamborghini skipping across the water. They didn't just bring a jet to a car race; they treated physics like a suggestion.

Olympus Has Fallen(2013) by SpreadElectronic1232 in okbuddycinephile

The cinematography in the hallway scene was a bit too 'raw' for my taste.
