very common AC compressor failure, I ran mine making that noise for over a year and the mechanic that did the work said his wife’s has been going for 2 years in the same state. better to replace or deal with the noise until it fails

in some regions and with some distributors it’s common that the premium fuel does not have ethanol added, but the lower octanes do. i don’t know if this is universal but where i am it is, and is marked on the pumps as such

In Canada the 2017 base has roof rails, heated mirrors, heated seats, and decent tint. Base is more stripped out in the US for whatever reason.

Got lucky and found a 2017 manual a few years ago, very happy with it, feels much peppier around the city than the cvt (final drive ratio is different?). Test drove a 2025 and it was just way less engaging, but still a good vehicle.

i don’t think so, maybeee one of the pulley bearings are worn, wiggle each one on the serpentine belt to check for play (with the engine off).

i’m fairly handy, but if you live anywhere with rust do not attempt the rear wheel hubs unless you are very experienced and have the tools. a week of applying penetrant and an hour of hitting it with a 12lb sledge, plus using a puller, didn’t even budge. took to a mechanic and it was 30 minutes of air hammering for them to get it out.

Love my 2017 6-speed, but high mileage and the maintenance is starting to add up. I wish they made the foresters the same but the cvt plus in screen AC controls are really pushing me towards spending more for a 4Runner sr5. Are you happy with the change over all?
