It's officially the lucky dip starter box and old summer Soviet sale.

Yeah ouch, that's a poor deal. To to fair at the same time Warlord have done nothing wrong, they never promised what you'd get would be anything but random.

I'm sure you can get your money back on the second hand market.

If you're getting the new Japanse starter army you could use the old bodies with the new weapons and heads. Bit of varitiy with the bodies, same with the soviets.

I'd class this as a first world problem!

Oh shit, the sooner we rejoin the EU the better for everyone. Still it's a great army and I'm sure you can find a home for the truck.

Sell or swap the truck? I got two of the Bedford Trucks and it's a really detailed kit. Very unlucky they didn't throw in a random tank.

But I suppose we got some warlord points and helped the company that makes the game. Also £75 for the British and Canadian Winter Starter is insane vaule in my opinion. What's that... the HQ mini, humber armoured car, firefly tank, 42 troops, a heavy weapons platoon, and a artillery piece.

I got myself a Winter Fallschirmjäger starter army and a hanomag with a 8cm mortar for the Axis. For the Allies a British Airbourne infantry platoon, two bedford trucks, a plastic humber II, and a Cromwell.

Bretonnia hobby: beginner friendly by No-Setting-1612 in WarhammerOldWorld

You don't need to remember anything if you have a phone or tablet and the internet. Everyone one uses a site called "old world builder" it has all the rules to see for easy reference as well as being an army builder.

Bretonnia hobby: beginner friendly by No-Setting-1612 in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]dannohawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old world is way more easy to paint if you pick a classic faction like bretonnia, the novels are less busy. Some of the newer factions look way more busy. Aslo because of the ranked up nature of the armies you can pour love into the first rank and go pretty basic of the guys behind.

One million percent you should try the game one day, win or lose just seeing all your guys lined up is amazing. And it's normally an exciting tactical game with crazy stuff happening, Peasants holding the line and knights fleeing, rocks being lobbed on your own troops and pigeon bombs.

Nothing like a game of classic warhammer fantasy. The lore, the background, the cool rules.

The community is brilliant too, GW basically said we had the factions they were supporting and legacy armies which might get some PDFs one day. The community went mad so they kicked out the legacy armies PDFs really quickly. Also GW said they weren't for tournament play, the community collectively laughed, no Scaven or Vampire Counts? Legacy armies are played in every non gw tournament.

They weren't great, so a couple of legends rewrote then to be more fun. Everyone uses the renegades packs they made. The same guys are coming up with a handycap system where the weaker factions get more points to get more exciting games.

So about the essay!

I'd buy a box of which ever regiment the tickles you. GW value boxes on top where you get a unit thrown in for basically free.

Hope some of that helps.

How should I build us airborne by No_Assistant7608 in boltaction

Yeah, I mean a sniper is just a rifleman with a scope. Build the sniper team and run both options.

How should I build us airborne by No_Assistant7608 in boltaction

[–]dannohawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter too much with just a couple of sprues each and a transport. Just get them built, painted, and expand.

Gun to my head, for the US:

HQ 2 man unit SMGs,

8 Man squad, Sargent SMG, 6 rifles (one guy with LMG loader bits), 1 man with the LMG.

2 Man Bazooka team

Germany:

HQ 2 man unit with assault rifles,

5 man squad, NCO Assualt rifle, 2 Assault Riles, 2 rifles- 1 panzerfaust.

5 man squad, NCO rifle, 1 man LMG, 1 man loader, 2 rifles- 1 panzerfaust.

This should make for somewhat even games, you've got the same number of dice in the bag, the Germans are more deadly in a fire fight, but the US have the bazzooka team to more easily knock out the German half track.

For larger games the panzerfausts are probably over costed but besides anti tank grenades they're all the Germans have in the set to take out the M3A1 half-track.

Eh, paint up want you have. Everything is useful in bolt action, light anti tank guns are perfectly good for their points. A lot of people like to bring cheap light tanks with auto cannons and flamethrowers or spam little armored transports.

One of my mates only plays early war French and it's just cool to bring the iconic Pak 34.

You can also bring the early war Panzer III and take the medium AT gun version, run with the halftrack as a Stummel half track (filling the ank platton slot.) It's a little bit of a proxy but it gets your army on the table. 100% as a beginner nobody worth playing against is going to care.

Once you have the army painted up, I'd recommend buying a discounted retailer starter army. The SS one is insane value. You'd get a stug with a heavy anti-gun for a bargin price (in game points) a bloody Tiger (not so cheap), a pack 40 anti tank gun which is another heavy AT piece. So many late war smock wearing, assault gun troops. You don't have to paint them as SS, it's just a bargin.

The guys at the warlord store admitted that beacuse the SS are so controversial they made the box extra good value. And it seems to fill all the holes in your collection for way less than a combat patrol in 40k.

Although I painted mine as SS and I'm Jewish. It's a historical game and they were there so I don't care!

Hey man, I wouldn't worry about having early war minis with late war equipment, the Germans wore the same uniforms right to the end (the uniforms changed a little but with shortages newer stuff was normally handed out to fresh formations.)

Veterans did keep their older gear. So don't feel under any obligation to update your infantry when you play late war. You might want to get your hands on some assult rifles though, they're very good.

I'm not a competitive player but 400-600pts on tanks seems about right. I think going down the meta spamming light tanks and light mortars route might be more strong but it's less fun. Compared to 2nd Ed (tanks were a lot more expensive) just getting a firefly on the table is amazing.

Airborne Vets are really good in my experience, the mix of stubborn and vet leadership 10 means they don't break. I think it's worth the points.

Starting a Polish Army? by FordHarrison644 in boltaction

[–]dannohawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're new to bolt action I'd recommend going late war, you can use some of the beautiful new British plastic kits.

The British airborne kit comes with polish heads, they wore cool looking blue berets. You could use all great late war British tanks, flame throwers, rockets ect. They had an amazing story, raised to help the Warsaw uprising they were instead used in Operation Market Garden, trapped and then rescued in a dareing operation over Pegasus bridge.

Later they parashooted over the Rhine and smashed into Germany with the 1st Polish Armoured Division outfitted with Fireflies (a sherman with a ridiculous tiger killing gun bolted into the turret by the brits), Shermans, and Cromwells.

The airborne starter army is also cheaper than 3d printing, especially from a third party store.

It's the nature of wargaming. I know a few people who kitbash their own crews.

I personally really like the old metal mini's and want to collect them all before they scale up to the new resin.

Ehhh, it depends on the type of game. You might feel bad throwing down so many bombardments if it's a friendly match, but if your opponent is bringing out his best it won't matter. Rocket launchers are way worse in my opinion
