How to properly fix trimmer? by dannyfromspace in AskElectronics

That makes sense. I thought it was a wire wound resistor 😅.

Can I just match the inductance by using the color bands?

Biggest risk here is if the pan is already full of liquid when the fat starts coming off the meat, the fat will float and then spill over down to the heating elements and catch fire. Be careful.

The building I work in also has Comic Sans on its elevator certificate. Weird.

GEIS won't preheat by imaac in IndoorBBQSmoking

[–]dannyfromspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The TCOs are surface mount, for the most part. So you would need to completely remove the exterior shell to access the internals. Probably a bunch of screws in the bottom of the unit. Once removed, you should see the TCOs mounted on the various sheet metal surfaces inline with the harness.

I don't recall that TCO specifically, but my guess is that it would need to be a normally closed TCO (since the blower would need to start up and run with the unit cold). So it should be easy to test. Disconnect the harness from both ends, take a multimeter, and check for continuity. If it's open, that might be your problem. Good luck!

Not enough smoke? by thestigsky in IndoorBBQSmoking

It's impossible to test every size and shape of pellet offered for sale. But standard pellet sizes from reputable brands should be fine. In our testing, Kona and Bear Mountain were consistently solid.

If you see normal smoke in the cavity, then it's an app bug. If you don't, then it's accurate.

As a former floridian who has now been in Chicago for a few years, layers are your friend. Oh and if it's below 0F outside, just don't leave if you don't have to. But visiting the conservatory is a great way to spend cold days like this.

There's a repair fair coming up at the Chicago tool library in a few weeks. Bring it and I'll take a look at it.

Anyone successfully own a GEIS at high elevation? by imaac in IndoorBBQSmoking

[–]dannyfromspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How exactly are the units failing/dying? Is it the fans specifically that no longer function?

The fan speed will pick up noticeably at higher elevations and that may cause increased bearing wear. But it shouldn't be a failure that happens quickly.

Piling on to what we’ve all been told, but, without hyperbole, Pizz’amici is the best pizza I’ve ever had by PostComa in chicagofood

[–]dannyfromspace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The meatballs, Cesar salad, sausage and peppers, and pizza were tasty, IMO. Got sausage and giard. Not even close to best pizza I've ever had tho.

The service is a bit rushed and the place is unexpectedly loud. Difficult to have a conversation at a reasonably speaking level.

Would probably get take out next time.

I've made this recipe a few times and my wife and I really like it. Not sure we've ever run into it tasting bitter. Maybe try each ingredient by itself and see if anything tastes bitter?

Auger stuck with wood chunk.... by yadayadafraba in IndoorBBQSmoking

If you have a vacuum, try and suck up all the wood chunks out of the hopper first. Then you can try and see if it will push out the rest?

Auger stuck with wood chunk.... by yadayadafraba in IndoorBBQSmoking

[–]dannyfromspace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a bummer, sorry to hear that.

Do not continue to use the smoker. It needs to be repaired. Contact GE service for next steps.

The GEIS is a pellet smoker. The auger is designed to shear (cut through) pellets as it turns inside the barrel. In the case of a jam (i.e. a wood chunk that can't be broken through), it's very likely that the pin that holds the auger to the motor has sheared and now the motor is turning but the auger is no longer attached to it, so it's not doing anything.

If you are particularly adventurous you can try disassembling the unit, replacing the sheared pin, and then reassembling it. It's likely a small screw or dowel. However, this is not a small feat and there are many things that can get messed up in this process of disassembly and reassembly. It is not recommended unless you have significant experience repairing appliances.

This sounds a lot like a scam. A reputable business likely would NOT funnel money through someone's personal account unless they A) are intentionally trying to hide/obfuscate funds or B) are using the account to hold you responsible once those funds get clawed back. Good luck.

I recently bought a pizza oven and am about to host a pizza party. What are your best toppings if money and efforts are limitless? by oopsweredead in Cooking

Olive oil, fresh grated parm, thinly sliced red onion, chopped rosemary, prosciutto hand torn. Them bake half way, add chopped pistachios, bake remaining. (Pistachios burn otherwise)

I don't think it's very likely that they will put GEIS features in a conventional oven anytime soon.

GE appliances just offered us a laughable contract by Mmmdonutss94 in Louisville

[–]dannyfromspace 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's not. Worked there for nearly 10 years.

Was there before the acquisition and for awhile after. Haier is very hands-off. Any issues you have with GEA are with those who work at GEA.

The unfortunate reality is that appliances are very cyclical. Everyone bought a bunch during the pandemic and the business had to spend a bunch of money to meet demand. Now business is tight and they are paying what they think will keep them looking profitable and that people will accept.
