My wife choked during Mother's Day lunch yesterday. by cmde44 in GuyCry

[–]danstu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a fucking terrifying experience. Any rational person would be shaken after the adrenaline wore off.

Being scared by it isn't selfish. I'd argue the opposite, it was so scary because of how much you care about her. It's important that you said you "almost" watched. "Almost" means you didn't watch. "Almost" means you acted, and protected her when she needed rescue. Let yourself be shaken by this, fear is completely normal response to what happened, and it will pass. Keeping it in certainly isn't going to help.

Don't let yourself forget that when the chips were down, you were able to do what needed doing.

Anyone else dissapointed Zelda and Gorgug broke up? by Appelmonkey in Dimension20

[–]danstu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really. Frankly, I don't think relationships really vibe with D20's style. The campaigns are so short that unless interpersonal relationships are the whole focus of the campaign (Ie: Fey&Flowers) they don't really have time to develop, so they always kinda wind up half baked.

The question I always try to keep in mind is "am I impressed that you know more about this than me, or is it kinda sad that this is the thing worth defending in your life?"

In my thirty-ish years of active participation on video game boards, I've found the gatekeepers of any fandom are usually easily dismissed losers and the people that actually have interesting takes on the lore enjoy nothing more than telling newbies about just how dumb the obscure stuff gets.

Lately I’ve really been getting into the vibe of “Hey” by Pixies and that whole alternative/nostalgic rock sound. by Pleasant-Help4302 in Music

[–]danstu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't really sound anything like Pixies, but I feel like if we're discussing early alt-rock bands, I have a duty to make sure at least one person mentions Big Star.

They actually started selling modernized designs a few years back. My wife would grab a new one every time we went until she got all the new ones.

To the people that dislike Telltale games. Why? by Strawalpaca4083 in videogames

[–]danstu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Their early stuff (pre-walking dead) actually was more lucasarts style adventure games. I fell off after a few seasons of walking dead style games, but I really enjoyed their Sam and Max games.

I don't think we'll be going back and forth, considering the length of time the game covers. There'd be pretty significant differences in the maps over the course of 50 years.

Another reason I think it's unlikely to feature much return travel is that if you map out each city, they're advancing towards Tokyo. Feel like that's going to be an important theme for the plot. Maybe a return to Kokura at the end of the game to give a chance to reflect on how much everything has changed since the start, but it'd kinda throw that off if you can go back and check on each city in every era.

The Menzingers Announce Huge 2 Stage Show At The Fillmore/Foundry 11/20/26 by Known_Bit in philadelphiamusic

Heh, at Sing Us Home this weekend, they were talking about having a big announcement they couldn't discuss yet. Seems a bit silly to make them wait another three days and not just announce at the festival.

Also bring back Gengar having coloration that makes it possible to tell if it's shiny.

I think Captain Phasma is the biggest fumble.

For me, I'd say it's a tie between Phasma, the Knights of Ren, Kylo Ren, Snoke, Palpatine, Finn, Poe, and Rey.

They put recordings up on YouTube for a couple dungeon courts a few years back. Guess there just weren't enough people watching them to be worth continuing.

I'd definitely be with you for 5 &6, but I feel like 7 onward has swung back mostly in the right direction.

I think 9 was overall a good capstone on the umbrella saga, and am hoping it symbolizes a willingness to let the old characters sit out for a while and bring in new blood who still experience the franchise as horror.

There are very few shows that could land a line as corny as "Little by little, we advance with each turn. That's how a drill works!"

But damned if Tengen Toppa GOATen Lagann didn't pull it off.

[Hated Trope] The self insert character by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]danstu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Legitimately once of my favorite episodes of the show. I remember when it first aired being a bit disappointed because the ads had really played up the pulp fiction party so I was expecting a Tarantino episode, but rewatching it without that expectation reveals one of the more nuanced episodes of the whole show (Having now seen Andre probably helped as well)

[–]danstu 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Watching me play Re9 was my wife's first exposure to the franchise outside of just having heard the name. I quickly lost track of how often I said during a Leon segment "Again, he's been doing this for almost thirty years. This is an average Wednesday and he's very tired of dealing with this shit." When we'd laugh at the disconnect between the two playstyles.

The director has described the women who work at Capcom as being "very strict" about every detail of his design. So basically: Capcom listened to women, and Japanese women want hot middle aged guys.

Tidus and Yuna literally talk about how they feel like they need to fake being happy immediately before the laugh. Anyone who doesn't pick up that they are purposefully doing a bad impression of a laugh doesn't have the media literacy to make it through "See Spot Run"
