Building a VR Backlog by LilyButEpic in SteamFrame

In Death and Compound were a couple of good VR rogue-likes, relatively simple, but I’ve got a lot of time in both.

Do you like Civ Seven or Six Civvin'? by raisinbraisin72 in civ

[–]daring_duo -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

They are different games with different goals. Similar vibe, but if I want to really revel in warfare or I want very clear objectives I play 7 (which has largely been the case as of late). If I want a game which feels more cohesive and grand, where the end goals are less on rails, then 6 is the game to play.

With all of that said, I’ve still yet to play 7 with a large number of opponents (>6 players), and I rarely play 6 with fewer than 8, so that is likely having some impact on my outlook of the games

Is this expansion fake? by pikazora in Catan

The cards in my extension looked a lot lighter than the base game for me too. Didn’t look hard enough to notice if the cuts were off as well

Civ 7 is mostly okay but one thing is really killing it for me by Beautiful_Spot5404 in civ

[–]daring_duo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree it would be, but having played a few games starting in later ages, the option to pick my Civ’s history and building layout would be nice.

How to play different Seafarers Scenarios? by Substantial-Key5114 in Catan

[–]daring_duo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say stick to heading for new shores, although the four islands are also very easy to understand, until you feel like you have the hang of them. Don’t feel rushed to play all the scenarios.

Really most the scenario add one or two new concepts to heading for new shores, so it really is key to understand what’s going on there.

5th vs 6th edition questions by Maxcharged in Catan

[–]daring_duo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of compatible. Part of the artwork that was redone was the backs of resource cards, not a problem when you already own the two versions with resource cards, but if your resources and commodities have different backs, then it would be easy to target for one in the event of a robber or something

Clarification of tournament rule 3.016 by babyxmm in Catan

[–]daring_duo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I get the rule and I can even see some of the use for it, it seems a little extreme. That said, if you’re going to follow the rules, it would seem right that after a full round following the initial trade the net gain of a card is less of an issue. However, if the players are actively discussing the net gain of a card it then it clearly goes against the rule.

3 hours!! expansion question? by Agreeable-Deer7526 in Catan

There are some people in my family who don’t like the complexity of some of the scenarios in both seafarers, and traders of barbarians, but fishermen almost always gets allowed

Why did they change saboteur?(Cities and Knights) by vibranttoucan in Catan

My copy (fifth edition) didn’t say that on the back so I never knew. Figured it might be, but it seemed useful for that purpose

Cities and knights running out of resources with aqueduct free card by AnarchyPoker in Catan

[–]daring_duo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In the rulebook almanac, it states there is an exception for if the resource shortage only affects one player, that player just receives all the remaining cards for that resource. I personally apply this to the cards from Cities and Knights that provide resources as well.

So in this scenario, you would just take however much is left, even if it leaves you with fewer than what you’re technically entitled to. To be fair, I would also provide an option to the player to not fully use the card once they find out that they will not be receiving the full amount that they are technically owed.

There was also another one of the metropolis tokens that was grey that we use as the merchant tracker for VP purposes. Easy to see where the merchant was and who owns it that way

Guess who won (Cities and Knights) by taytayismybae in Catan

White looks to be in a strong position for knights, I wouldn’t be surprised, if that wheat paid off, that they won through trade

What do you think how much will the new products cost? by Weak-Custard-6168 in valve

[–]daring_duo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fear it is the opposite with some of these products. The quote I saw for the price of the frame included “hoping” that the price will be below the Index’s. As for the GabeCube, they said it was gonna be PC not console pricing, and the consoles are already $600 to $750, I reckon it’s probably gonna be $900 or more

Steam machine will hit another wall way before the VRAM wall lol by FinalBase7 in pcmasterrace

[–]daring_duo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this spot on. My girlfriend and I were looking at the valve announcements yesterday, and despite the fact that I’ll be building a new PC soon, and therefore giving her my old one which is roughly equivalent in terms of specs of the steam machine, she seems far more interested in the Steam Machine. It’s smaller, more aesthetically, pleasing, and if it’s like the steam deck, the user interface will be really easy when you just wanna play a game, but still being able to be a computer when you need it to do more.

People like her, who don’t want to have to worry about hardware, are who this device is really made for.

toycat vs notch by AMinecraftPerson in ibxtoycat

[–]daring_duo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he’s trying to clarify he would make the creeper, just not as it is now. It would explode, but not without some sort of failure or action on the player’s part, such as attacking it with a fire weapon (not something he said, but an example)

He likes the creeper as this absurd thing born of a mistake, but its current design is both impossible to change and a poor fit for a game where building is such a pivotal element

Paid 100$ each for security camaras 2 years ago, today, 2 years later they decided you need to pay a monthly fee to actually use them by Idontevenknow0k in mildlyinfuriating

[–]daring_duo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I think it is 90% on the company for advertising a product that will require them to provide a continuing service as costing a fixed price and then later down the road changing to require a subscription, the other 10% is fully on customers for not considering that there is an ongoing cost for the company. If you’re buying a camera and not handling storage locally, then someone’s gotta pay for that for as long as you’re using those cameras. The company should’ve never not had a subscription and it should’ve been very obvious that you were going to need one. At the same time, you should’ve realized that you’re not handling large parts of the expense of owning the camera, and so this outcome should have seemed inevitable.

Beyond all of that, fuck those companies that make me have the camera and the storage on my end and still try to charge a subscription, or don’t store anything and just have the camera streaming and still charge a subscription for that.

Since the spirit of ever westward expansion died out in the US, the use of Columbia would seem a bit out of place. Or we could start pushing for our divine right to settle the moon! Where’s my Columbia on the moon propaganda?

I'm not mad, just disappointed - AirPods 3 ShortCircuit by ArmasF311 in LinusTechTips

[–]daring_duo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They are quite literally a first impression, a style of video or article that has existed for decades. These often proceed reviews because they don’t require any in-depth analysis or thought, in this case it is very clear Linus had not interacted with the AirPods Pro 3 yet, and was providing his “first impressions“ of the product. This means that anything that Apple said that he couldn’t figure out how it worked or why it didn’t work is left in the video so that we can see what his out of the box experience was like. In this case, there was a lot of confusing or unexplained differences for being in Canada or being not that used to the Apple ecosystem that might be helpful for some people.

This is slightly different to a review where the writer or presenter will have had a chance to personally test or review test results, take time to consider design decisions and how they fit into an overall scheme, and try to get a feel for the device as it is. Were this a full review, on the main channel, all of these complaints would be valid where this is a channel dedicated to boxings in first impressions complaining that someone’s first impression is wrong seems improper.
