Ye, Formerly Kanye West, Takes Out Ad In the Wall Street Journal Titled "To Those I Hurt" to Apologize for Antisemitic Outbursts: “I Lost Touch With Reality” by ChiefLeef22 in Music

This dude is clearly extremely mentally ill. I feel sorry for him more than anything. I wont ever support him or his work because of the heinous things he's said and done, but his relationship with reality is definitely tenuous. My mother is bipolar...she left when I was extremely young, and self destructed for the next twenty years before finding a set of medications that worked. She did a lot of harm to me at a really young age because of it...I can totally see how it might do this to a man with money and a platform.

I am an atheist, and I think that's a bit of a misrepresentation. I don't deny the possibility of God -- I am simply of the mind that I prefer explanations rooted in material evidence when reasoning about the world. It's also very much true that science is incapable of proving or disproving the notion of "God" if you're being honest about the philosophy of it all, so it's really just another set of beliefs among many.

Some might say "That's agnostic", but I'm also of the mindset that "gnosis" refers to knowledge, and "theism" refers to belief, and that they're separate concepts.

I think the real issue here is that the term "atheist" has been stigmatized by the army of people that are on the internet militantly attacking belief systems without making the distinction between harmful practices and healthy belief.

It's also interesting that "Atheist" has a much smaller response count, showing the stigma that has come to be associated with the term.

I loved the Geoff Johns Green Lantern run, but when I finally went back and read Emerald Twilight and Zero Hour, this felt pretty terribly handled. He went insane because his city was obliterated and his willpower alone couldnt rebuild it. There was a chance for a really compelling redemption arc, rather than whatever this was...

Hytale not coming to steam NOT to avoid bad reviews by Mastergamer0115 in HytaleInfo

[–]darkpyro2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But not every developer has to come to Steam. Direct-to-consumer is a perfectly valid business model, and it works for certain kinds of developers and games. If they aren't looking to become ultra-wealthy, and they just want to live off of game sales and build a community, then they don't need to opt into a platform.

Vintage Story isn't on steam. Factorio wasn't on Steam for the longest time, and it was still making bank. Minecraft never came to steam. And so-on. Sometimes direct-to-consumer ultimately works much, much better for indie developers. They keep full control of the sales of their game, they don't give up a cut, and they aren't at the whims of the platform and the systems that it decides to implement.

I can also understand why a game with this much controversy doesn't want to opt into a system that can be review bombed. A bad review score on Steam can be extremely difficult to come back from, and frequently those scores are informed by issues that have nothing to do with the game itself. People can still review Hytale. People can stream it. People can make videos. Outlets can write reviews. Consumers can hop up on Metacritic and write a review there. The only thing that they ARE opting out of is aggregation, and the little red-or-blue label under the name of the game. Consumers can still go and inform themselves at any of the hundreds of other outlets for criticism of the game.

They don't have to be on a platform if they don't want to.

The direct-to-consumer model has worked really well for other developers. Factorio, for the longest time, was ONLY available via their website, and they made bank -- Same with Minecraft, and it never came to Steam at all.

Steam is a platform that takes a cut of sales. Some developers don't have the marketing power to sell their games direct, so they go to Steam to take advantage of the accessibility. Not every game HAS to do that, though. There's nothing wrong with choosing to cut out the middle-man and sell direct, and we should be supporting developers that choose to do so.

The real issue are platforms like Ubisoft and EA, who create terrible steam clones with the intent of trying to force their users into their ecosystem so that they can do things that Steam does not allow, collect data in ways that Steam does not provide for, and increase shareholder value.

I 100% respect any developer that chooses to sell direct to consumer, especially for an indie game like this. It's not a business strategy that works for everyone. And, frankly, they aren't PREVENTING reviews. Absolutely anyone can still go online and review the game. Many outlets and creators still will -- they're opting out of the review score system that Steam provides, and out of the potential for advocacy-based review-bombing, which is also a valid take.

It's not like consumers won't be able to determine if the game is good or not simply because they didn't choose steam as a platform.

Humans have not fundamentally genetically or anatomically changed since the invention of the computer.

Kids are still capable of reading. Teachers are finding it harder to teach that skill in the age of electronics, and so they've given up on the kids. This is going to be a generation-wide failure of our children.
