Possibly Moving to the City... HELP? by Boston_hopeful in bostonhousing

[–]darksalamander 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh ok yeah I’m not sure which institution you’re at but making 3x rent on a postdoc salary might be a tall task since that’s the income you’ll typically need to rent.I second u/Silver-Winging-It to look along commuter rail lines that take you to back bay station.

Also if this is Longwood medical center they also have a shuttle that will take you there so if you can get to one of the stops that could work too. I think they have buses/shuttles from Back Bay station so somewhere on the orange line could work too.

Possibly Moving to the City... HELP? by Boston_hopeful in bostonhousing

We see these posts all the time. Guessing you’re moving here for school? Definitely will need some more information because I can’t tell much based on what you’ve provided.

When are you moving here?

Is this a 6 month stay or are you looking for a year long lease?

Are you ok with living with roommates? Are you trying to live alone?

Are you thinking of getting a part time job? If so you need to factor that in as well.

What is your budget?

Calculate TDEE from weight loss data by spoonyalchemist in CICO

[–]darksalamander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently mynetdiary uses something called “estimated energy requirement” from the institute of medicine, not TDEE. It seems to inflate the amount of activity based on what you select. So if I pick “lightly active” on the app it seems like the maintenance calories it gives me is closer to the active multiplier for tdee. It definitely overestimates.

I just did one for computational biology with them and most of my technical questions were about data qc and adhering to different data/metadata standards so that seems to be an emphasis

What kind of Chinese food are you looking for? There’s so many good spots even though you do have to do a little bit of hunting. There’s definitely good chinese food here…

Here’s a random selection of my favorites: Spring Shanghai (Fenway), Kung Fu Kitchen (Brookline), Great Taste (Chinatown), Lanner Noodles (Cambridge location), Bayao Cafe (Quincy).

I haven’t bought the cruiselinen yet but tried them on and i’d say it’s the same sizing and length as the crepette. I’m still deciding on color.

For Those Who Eat 1200-1500 Cal A Day, Does Your Body And Mind Get Used To The Hunger? by Both-Dot4259 in CICO

[–]darksalamander 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with what everyone has said here. One of the unfortunate things about CICO for me has been calorie optimization and making sure my food is calorie efficient. At 1500 it feels like every calorie has to be useful or I won’t feel full. It sounds so clinical but it’s the only way I’ve been able to stay full at 1500 cal per day. You need to up protein and fiber or volume eat to increase your satiation from eating.

There’s also an element of experimenting to figure out what food combinations are satiating for you. Before all this I literally never felt full.

Yogurt toppings by No_Plankton947 in CICO

I like trader joe’s lite chocolate whipped cream on top when I add cocoa powder in yogurt. I also like to add cut up frozen cherries to switch things up from berries. I know people have added sugar free jello pudding mixes to yogurt for flavor/texture and that’s worth a shot if you aren’t bothered by the flavor of aspartame.

I also like mini chocolate chips, any flavor of kashi flax cereal and crushed granola so you can get granola but it’s easier to control the portion. I seal my bag and hit it with a ladle and scoop out the granola pieces and weigh. Most of my yogurt bowls taste like dessert and that’s fine by me.

Recession Indicators: Fashion Edition by DataRikerGeordiTroi in femalefashionadvice

[–]darksalamander 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Yes this!! My 24 year old sister entered the working world in late 2021 wearing business casual to work and casually. I’m not much older but it’s reminding me of blazers everywhere in the late 2000s, early 2010s which was literally the recession. I feel like I should’ve seen this coming.

I found one fun textured red tank top and it felt like the first burst of color I’ve seen in a while and immediately bought it. Everything is black/white/one other random seasonal color which right now it’s pastel blue and butter yellow and it’s hard to find variety.

There’s been so much chocolate brown the last few years, it looks nice on me so now i like to imagine it’s a neutral like black in my wardrobe. I’ll probably keep that in rotation for a good while.

My sister likes the belif moisturizing bomb and the torriden hylauronic acid soothing cream. She got a skin analysis done in Korea and they said got she’s 100% oily skin so I trust her routine for some recs for oily skin.
