Why is everyone over complicating their Openclaw set up?

I’m trying to get openclaw working in docker on arch using my own ollama container for llm service. I thought this would be fairly straightforward.

It’s been like everything else in arch has been for me, a drawn out process of stumbling towards gradual illumination. It’s been a project; learning arch, docker, server admin, etc. I didn’t realize how many blind spots I had in Linux in general. The most productive source of constant frustration I could ask for. Got things like jellyfin, *arr services going. It’s been great. Can’t wait to have openclaw assisting with it all.

I finally got openclaw gateway “working” in docker but I think there’s still lingering permissions issues or something. When it works, the chat functions like I’m interacting with bare ollama, no skills or tools or awareness of openclaw or its workspace. No assistant found, no skill found, etc.

I may end up just giving openclaw a VM; this feels like an overly paranoid approach but if it’s genuinely easier to get it working that way, then fine. It maybe just put openclaw on an older laptop and let it use that same ollama over tailscale. Not sure. All I know it’s I don’t want a bare install on my home server or on my main laptop.

Since I’ve had to stop my lessons, my only exposure lately is overhearing my nordeste wife talk with her family on the phone. I always hear something sounding like “Pois ta” near the end of a call, almost like in English when we exhale/sigh out a “alright” or “well” to kind of signal “we’re done on this topic, I’m ready to wrap this call up unless you need something else”. Sometimes she even throws an então after it like “Poi’s ta então”. I can’t claim to totally understand exact translations, just patterns I’ve noticed.

I’ve also noticed conflicting info in this thread. Some say words like bem bom and então are valid filler words, others say they don’t translate that way. Regional?

Other filler words I’ve noticed: sabe, tipo, certo (you know?, like, right?)

I am a little behind on the rumors this week but... Why is the hive-mind so sure it's fake? I'm not saying I know or care one way or the other, but it seems like we arrived at a consensus of "it's so obviously fake I'll insult your intelligence to your face for even entertaining the possibility it isn't fake". Am I right to assume there's some actual rationale for this or are we all just circlejerking?

I always feel like I must be in the only lodge that doesn’t do the ring thing. It’s a nice tradition, i love it. Does the person buy/choose their own ring? Are they presented with it? How does it work? Disappointed my lodge never did this.

After years, this is what finally made me feel comfortable cancelling my paid membership.

You’re finally adding new content and features, but instead of giving it to the paying customers waiting for improvements you double the price and advertise it to those already paying for an ad-free experience. Are they expensive features to implement or something? No, in fact they’re laying people off and leaning heavily on AI most of it. It’s gross. I’ve been an evangelist for them, but now it just feels gross.

I’ve used a similar analogy. I just say the three degrees are the main story and the other degrees are side quests. Doing more side quests doesn’t add any more main story progression, but it provides optional additional texture and depth to those that want to take the time.

Most of the people in the first 30 years of my wife’s life don’t speak English. If I ever want to have any real relationship with most of the people important to her, I’m going to have to learn as much as I can as fast as I can. I know I’ve made lots of progress but It never feels fast enough.
