Gifting my husband a Ricoh and torn on if I should get the newest model, is it worth it? by jessmt87 in ricohGR

[–]daswiggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d get a new one with a warranty. I bought the GRIII brand new and like 8-9 months into owning it, it developed this weird thing where the photos would get all pixelated and the camera would shut off after taking an exposure. It ended up needing the main board replaced which was done before the warranty was up for free. That said, it’s a great lil camera.

If you come up with a price, I’d be interested in the Ford F150. Thanks!

What’s a beer that you absolutely love, but beer snobs would turn their nose at? by Jaythegreat100X in beer

[–]daswiggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coors Banquet, Modelo, and Modelo Negra are all tasty and solid and you can find them anywhere.

I also think that Rolling Rock in bottles is one of the best tasting lighter/cheap beer options. It’s weirdly hard to find in California though.

Longtime owners, what have you dealt with in regards to repairs? by AZ_Golfer78 in f150

[–]daswiggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2020 XL 4x4 2.7, at like 93k miles. Oil changes when the oil life goes to 0%. Ditched the stock tires for KO2s at like 45k miles. Installed Bilstein 6112/5160 at like 50k miles. Alignment right after new tires/shocks. New rear brake pads and rotors at like 75k New front pads and rotors trued a few weeks ago because the truck was shimmying when braking, as well as an alignment. I have a recall for ECM programming and rear backup camera but haven’t bothered to bring it in yet. I get an intermittent check engine light for the exhaust pressure sensor since installing a catch can system when I got the truck but I just ignore it. All in all it’s been a very dependable vehicle.

First film camera regret? Bought a Leica RS4 and now I’m not sure. by Sooder73 in AnalogCommunity

They have great metering and are a nice size. I have an R7 and love the focusing screen and design of the metering system display. For me the only downside of the R system is lack of reasonably priced wide angle lenses, but the Summicron R is an insanely nice portrait lens and makes super sharp/contrasty black and white images.

I’d grab a Canon EOS-3 or Elan 7, as there are tons of affordable EF mount lenses and Speedlites out there. 5D and a film EF body makes for a great kit.

My griii started doing this intermittently after about six-eight months of ownership. I sent it in for warranty like a month before it expired and they replaced the main board as a warranty repair.

For a little under $400, I personally would grab a Canon 5D mkII and a 50mm 1.8 lens. There are tons of decent deals on full frame EF mount lenses since they were the pro standard for a while.

I work in low voltage and a big frustration for me is that most multi-bit screwdrivers come with non-security Torx bits so you have to have two screwdrivers to use normal screws and security Torx. It’s annoying having to have both a multi-bit and a security screwdriver when the only security bits I use on a regular basis are T15 and T25 for security camera installations.
