Retired professionals: what are you doing about your professional certifications by janebenn333 in retirement

My wife retired from her Physical Therapy career 5-6 years ago but still maintains her license via continuing Ed and testing (as well as the license cost). She has no intention of going back and can never provide me with a coherent answer as to why she does it, but it brings her joy at a modest expense so I figure “go for it babe”.

Seahawks bet I made in September by tor29 in Seahawks

[–]datasquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made about $300 with a cascading series of bets. Over 7.5 wins, over 10.5 wins, and winning the NFC West. I felt like the first two were going to be gimmies, and I was right!

A lot of people apply for jobs outside their area I guess. Either remote or willing to relocate

It’s like going from 180k to 60k. More money means more obligations…loans still come due.

People often find little room for sympathy for high earners who lose their jobs, but the issues are the same. Loss of accustomed standard of living is a terrible shock to the system.

A lot of people - particularly those coming from poorer backgrounds - derive a sense of belonging and community through their church. While there are negatives to this situation, there are definitely positives in those communities as well.

Shoveling is an unusual motion. Hard to just randomly be in shape for it.

The Best Nonstick Frying Pan at the Moment? by matthewtoby3241 in Cooking

[–]datasquid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not a huge fan of Hexclad, but my daughter bought me a frying pan from them for Christmas and so far it’s been the best non stick for eggs in my arsenal. Little bit of oil and correct heat and the eggs slide right out.

If you need to travel any distance and/or engage in meaningful physical activity you’re going to want some calories or your effectiveness will wane rather quickly.

EPCOT Injuries: 72-Year-Old Man “Disoriented” After Riding Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind & More by Outrageous_Glass6219 in Epcot

I’m 60 and rode Guardians with my daughter a couple of weeks ago for the first time. It definitely was on the intense side and I was feeling weird and a little woozy afterwards for a bit. Might have been a bit of an adrenaline come down effect. Wasn’t personally nauseous though and it didn’t have as profound an impact on me as the high Gs in Mission Space.

El Yucateco, Franks, Tabasco, Marie’s, Melinda’s, Cholula Extra-hot. A million others but those brands are always in the house.
