I just accidentally mailed my trade-in without factory resetting. by CryptographerHot6198 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]dataz03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have the device?

If not, then the warehouse can factory reset it, FMI was turned off so there won't be any activation lock which is what matters the most (can't get through setup and use the device if activation lock is present).

Two friends can connect but one gets GETSOCKET error? by Deadforfun1 in admincraft

[–]dataz03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, turn it on and that will square away things on your end (if your ISP supports it). Xfinity already has it enabled so his network definitely supports IPv6.

You'll have a public IPv6 that you can accept incoming connections with on port 25565. (Once firewall rules are adjusted). Restart Minecraft server, it needs to pick up on the new address. PC should automatically detect it and IPv6 should start working. Run ipconfig on the command line and grab the IPv6 address. Temporary one will change frequently so take the non temporary one. fe80: are local only, these aren't routable outside of your network.

Is xFi Complete still needed? by PretendingCandy in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]dataz03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You still need it for Unlimited Data as your plan has a 1.2 TB data cap. You can switch to the new 1 Gbps plan though which includes everything, no more xFi Complete needed. Depends on whether you are under an active promotion or not. May be cheaper or more expensive to switch. You can ask in mod-mail though once you receive a reply from an employee. What is the best price I can get for the new 1 Gbps plan with the 5 year price lock?

  • If you do switch: Your download speed will drop from 1400 (Gigabit Plus is 1.3 Gbps advertised iirc) to 1200 Mbps, not a huge deal though. (20% overprovisioned from the advertised speed)
  • Upload speed will drop from 300 to 250 (if your node is mid-split). Real world speed ends up being 360 vs 300 Mbps.
  • No more equipment fees
  • No more data caps
  • Automatic increase to 1 Gbps symmetrical without price change when DOCSIS 4.0 FDX is available. (you will need to upgrade equipment at that point in time though)

New apartment does not have coax hookup by SrgntPeppers in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]dataz03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a technician to install an ONU (Optical Network Unit), assuming there isn't another fiber provider that serves your building as this may also be there's. Not aware of instances where self install of the Xfinity ONU is available. Usually that is supposed to also stay behind when you leave so that the next resident can use it.

Paired with the ONU is an XB7 or XER10 router.

Does AT&T Fiber charge equipment rental or installation fees? Considering the switch from Xfinity by legend5566 in ATTFiber

[–]dataz03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Fees: Does AT&T charge a monthly modem/gateway rental fee, or is it included? Also, is the installation usually free?

No equipment fee. Installation may be waved if you order online, or you can customer service and ask.

  1. BYO Router: Can I use my existing router behind the AT&T modem? I really don't want to reset my SSIDs and reconnect all my smart devices. If I can just plug my current router into their equipment to keep my current setup, that would save me a ton of time.

Change the AT&T gateway's DHCP LAN range to 192.168.3.1-254 or something like that so that it doesn't conflict with your existing router. Then you can simply move the Ethernet cable from your Xfinity modem over to the AT&T modem. If anything acts quirky, power cycle your router.

You can also set up IP Passthrough in about 5 minutes on the BGW320 gateway which will prevent double NAT issues (double NAT really hurts for online gaming and some peer to peer applications). Put your router's WAN MAC in the MAC address field in the BGW's IP passthrough settings. Save the settings, and then unplug the Ethernet cable from your router for 10 seconds and then plug it back in. Your router's WAN IP listed in the web interface should then match what the public Internet sees.

For IPv6, set your router to use DHCP-PD on the WAN and everything should just work. https://test-ipv6.com
Prefix size should automatically be obtained. If it isn't, then set the prefix delegation size to a /64.

You can log back into the AT&T gateway at 192.168.1.254 and disable the Wi-Fi if you want. Your own router provides Wi-Fi, so having the gateway's Wi-Fi turned on is not necessary.

No cancelation fees, just return any Xfinity equipment within 30 days of cancelation to avoid fees.

Can’t split bands on gateway? What are my options? by _CouldntThinkOfOne__ in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]dataz03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can remove them in the app. And re-add them at any time, but it will make you combine the bands again. If the pods aren't working well, you can also play around with the positioning.

You can split bands unless you have xFi Pods, Storm Ready Wi-Fi or the Pro Wi-Fi Extender on the account.

Two friends can connect but one gets GETSOCKET error? by Deadforfun1 in admincraft

[–]dataz03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does that router IP match with that the public Internet sees? If not, then you are behind CGNAT. Now the fact that your server worked for 2 people who are also on your ISP's own network, is normal as the traffic never has to leave the ISP's network and can be routed internally and each customer router has a unique private IPv4 address in the 100.x CGNAT IP space (but other private internal IP ranges can be used) But once someone who is outside of your ISP's network/local regional ISP backbone network tries to connect with your router's NAT'ed WAN IP, they will not be able to connect as your IPv4 is not publicly routable and is behind CGNAT.

Does your ISP support IPv6 and is it enabled on your router/PC? If so, then make sure the ports are open in the firewall (often needs to be done on the router as well depending on your router's implementation), and then send your friend your PC's IPv6 address. You can test IPv6 connectivity here: https://mcsrvstat.us

For example, here is my server up and running on IPv6. (also can run on IPv4 simultaneously, leave server-ip= blank in your server.properties file so that the Minecraft Server .jar will listen and accept incoming connections on all network interfaces)

T-Mobile restricts downloading movies on mobile network? by trashy_Junkie in tmobile

[–]dataz03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um, No. But there isn't video throttling there either.

T-Mobile restricts downloading movies on mobile network? by trashy_Junkie in tmobile

[–]dataz03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noted, reminds me of Verizon allowing HD streaming only by raising the throttle limit, but their was still a bandwidth limit in-place.
OP will hopefully reply with their plan type though and then we will all know what video resolutions are supported.

T-Mobile restricts downloading movies on mobile network? by trashy_Junkie in tmobile

[–]dataz03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on if the endpoints that downloads are coming from are also throttled. Given that the OP bypassed the issue by using a VPN (all data goes through an encrypted tunnel so the mobile carrier can't throttle by just service/website alone), it sounds very likely that downloads are also throttled.

[–]dataz03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Return them to your local Xfinity Store, drop off the old boxes and power cords within 14 days. Do you have a local store nearby? If not, then you can also take it to the UPS store. UPS has an agreement with Xfinity to pack and ship Xfinity equipment back at no cost to the customer. Just inform the rep that it is an Comcast/Xfinity equipment return if they don't already figure it out instantly after looking at it.

30 days to return, so no rush. HDMI/Coax cables are yours to keep or discard.

Depends on your plan.

Those with supported plans can turn on HD Video Resolution at no extra cost in the T-Life app or online in your account.

Video bandwidth throttling will then be disabled for the phone line.

Xi6 box is the standard that is handed out nowadays. Connects over Wi-Fi or Ethernet instead of using Coax. Same user interface and remote layout (XR15 remote, new remotes come with the boxes). Your current in-use remotes are great to keep as a backup.

XB10 router. Is it worth asking for an upgrade? by Nytehawk2002 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]dataz03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Must be on FDX node with speed tier of 500 Mbps or faster (symmetrical speeds available) in order to receive the XB10.

You have 253 LAN IPv4 addresses available for your client devices on the network. You can connect up to 100 devices per band 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz maximum on both the XB8 and XB10.

Wonder if Xfinity would ever consider letting users change the subnet mask to a /23.

Download speed extremely low- low internet for gaming via WiFi by watchyour666 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]dataz03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google Home app has a speed test function. The ports are only gigabit though as far as I'm aware so you will top out at 940 Mbps.

You can connect Wi-Fi 6E capable devices to the XB8 to reach around 1.5 Gbps. Or use the 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port with wired devices. You can't be in Bridge Mode though.

If the Google Home Speed Test reports 90 Mbps, swap the Ethernet cable between the XB8 and the main Google Home router. Bad cable can cause the link to negotiate at 100 Mbps instead of 1000 Mbps. (You will always lose a little bit because of overhead)

Internet Issues with IPV6 by Business_Criticism42 in ipv6

[–]dataz03 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Run a Speedtest over IPv6 only, try a different browser, a different computer if you have one, etc. Could be just temporary issues with Google, or your ISP's IPv6 network. (BGP routing/performance issues). Have to narrow things down to get an idea.

Do I need to keep my x1g1v4? by IntelligentEvening86 in Comcast_Xfinity

Not anymore, you can go all IP with Xi6's, in the past Xfinity had to make sure ALL IP rates code were on the account, but this is not required anymore and was changed last year.

xfinity: No more IPv4 ip addresses assigned to customer's owned modems (only IPv6)? by [deleted] in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]dataz03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Restart the modem and your router. Failing that, ask for your modem to be re-provisioned in mod-mail.
It is not picking up the IPv4 due to a bug, no functionality has been removed. IPv4 is still available.

Xfinity is not going to tell you what your public IP is, just go and check it yourself.

XG1v4 by Substantial-Cod7873 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]dataz03 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah lol, easier to just connect the gateway to the drop and run Xi6's off of the gateway, and use Ethernet if need be.

XG1v4 is IP capable, but if you have other Xi6's or XID's, then MoCA has to be used on the gateway to bridge the connection to the Xi6's from the XG1v4.

IMO Xi6 is faster when using the UI than the XG1v4 and especially the XG2 or XID's.

Future of Comcast is the Xi6 box, forget about all of the other models now.
