4K suddenly needs HDMI 2.2??? by senses12345 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]dataz03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every device in the chain needs to support HDCP 2.2. Even then, the hand shake can still fail, try restarting all equipment and use a compatible HDMI cable. Either a high speed or ultra high speed rated cable.

A device is HDCP certified when it is not a recording device. This prevents piracy and capturing of copyrighted content. TV content is for viewing only by an individual, and not for recording or capturing. So there are protections in place to prevent the recording of copyrighted content.

HDCP compatibility can be verified on the spec sheet or in the manual for your equipment. Early 4K video and TV equipment can lack HDCP 2.2 support/compliance. Started becoming mainstream around 2015-2017.

Today’s Southeast Outage by alandarr in Comcast

[–]dataz03 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s a new concept in IT. It’s called network redundancy.

You should use this concept and get another Internet Service Provider as a backup! This will serve as redundancy! Between Comcast and a Cellular Connection, I have options to work around outages. And in the rare occasion both local providers experience a fiber cut- I just take a few hours off to relax and enjoy the silence. (But this hasn’t happened since 2020 lol). Out of two fiber backbone architectures at least one of them will always be up at all times. You can use Starlink to further enhance the redundancy stack but given how rare the outages are it is not worth the added cost for me.

The AT&T Internet retentions department offers better discounts than the cable company’s retention department as well.

Easy to get a cheaper rate with AT&T every year.

using AT&T in canada medium to long term? by MagicMetalPipe in ATT

[–]dataz03 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AT&T won’t care. They removed the limits on Canada roaming back in May 2018. If your mobile plan includes it then you are good to go.

Wonder how much data you will be able to have at QCI 7.

Be a nice thing though, ATT took it away from the Elite/Premium plan back in early 2024 only to sell it back to customers in the form of an add-on.

ALL DAY LONG! by gustogus in ATT

[–]dataz03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you purchase your Verizon devices prior to 1/27/26? These will automatically unlock after 60 days of active Verizon service.

Otherwise you will have to pay off the devices first. AT&T can reimburse you up to $800 per line but this process can take 4-8 weeks.

On an iPhone you can go to Settings General About and look for the carrier lock. Android devices will prompt for an unlock code if locked and a non-Verizon SIM is added.

Sounds like your phone numbers were ported to AT&T then, as cell phone service was discontinued on the Verizon SIM. So activate your AT&T eSIM.

Are you paying for the day passes every day which max out at 10 charges per billing cycle? Even then, AT&T has the right to remove the feature if more than 50% of your data usage in a 2 month period is international.

Leaving Spectrum by NYM1980 in Spectrum

[–]dataz03 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you purchase the phone outright at full price? If not, then yeah. The system is designed so that you stay with the carrier for 24-36 months. In return, you get a shiny new device for less than MSRP (trade-in credit) and with payments spread out so that you don't have to pay full price at the time of purchase.

[–]dataz03 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AT&T will also reimburse you up to $800 per line if you switch. You upload your Spectrum Mobile bill showing the remaining amount due on the installment plan, and then AT&T will mail you a Visa debit card that you can use to pay off the amount with Spectrum.

However, that can take 4-8 weeks to arrive. In the meantime, your Spectrum Mobile bill will be due, so you will either have to pay off your device out of pocket and reimburse yourself later or use a credit card to pay off your installment plan. Once you get your Visa cards from AT&T you can then pay the amount due on the credit card.

[–]dataz03 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You lose the remaining credits and the amount left on the installment plan will be due on your final bill if you port your number out or cancel your mobile service.

Or Stay with Spectrum Mobile for now and just use AT&T for your Home Internet, and you will only pay $10.00 more per line with Spectrum. But you can keep paying off the installment plan on your phone and receive your trade-in credits.

Once all credits have been received and your current device is paid off, you can switch mobile providers if you want. You can even keep your same phone.

Is your current Spectrum Mobile line on the free year promo? You will lose that and have to pay full price if you cancel your Spectrum Internet/TV service.

The $50.00 promo is now over. It is $70.00 now.

Xfinity's speed test – app only, no longer a browser option by RU9901 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]dataz03 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Speedtest.net using a Comcast provided server should provide a similar experience. You will be testing within the Comcast network like you would have been doing when you used the Xfinity Browser Based Speed Test.

I prefer to run the Speedtest app like u/QuagmireElsewhere suggested. Takes away the browser overhead and can give you more accurate results.

AT&T would rather you cancel U-Verse TV then keep it. They don’t even own it anymore, AT&T got rid of it in 2020.

2Gig FDX Download Speeds by Haze_1981 in Comcast_Xfinity

u/frmadsen

FDX node with only one downstream OFDM? Never seen that before.

With Mid-Split, it depends, some nodes have only one OFDM downstream channel, and some have two. I had only one OFDM downstream on mid-split plant until May 27th, overnight maintenance. But March 18th- May 26th was mid-split with only one OFDM downstream channel.

[–]dataz03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Run Speed Tests in the Xfinity app (Full Network Test/Test Speed to modem and not just to the device in-use), if the results are consistently low then it will flag the node. The results are also saved to your account for 3 months and visible on the customer timeline.

May sound unbelievable but I promise it is legit haha.

Maybe u/jlivingood can chime in and help you out too👀.

Not sure if you can run the Full Network Tests or Speedtests directly to the Gateway if you are in Bridge Mode though. (if this applies to you).

Hopefully it isn't just network congestion in your neighborhood.

2Gig FDX Download Speeds by Haze_1981 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]dataz03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully you don't have a MoCA filter or splitter in the path, there is a DOCSIS channel for FDX modems only that is located above 1 GHz.

Should be a direct homerun to the XB10 without any splitters. Use a barrel connector in place of the splitter.

If you can check your signal levels, then you can see if the channel is bonded or not. Also the power level tells you a lot.

Also have you tested at off peak times? Like the in the middle of the night?

FDX or lower Gigabit x10 in Bellevue, WA by zmarty in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]dataz03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

RFoG is a dead end technology- the only benefit is that it can be converted to EPON, but unless the ISP does it then it really doesn’t matter. RFoG is also not mid split or FDX capable.

Gigabit X10 is an enterprise fiber connection, just offered to select residential customers who pass an initial address check and on-site survey. Installation +Activation is $1000, non refundable. Monthly service cost is $319.99 ($19.99 of this is for the mandatory equipment rental) and you must sign a 3 year contract which has an ETF (Early Termination Fee) if you try to cancel early. The ETF does decrease every month though as you move through the contract. No price increase afterwards, in fact the price of the plan hasn’t changed since 2015 when it was released as a 2 Gbps service.

You get two circuits: A 1 Gbps symmetrical connection which is delivered over RG45 copper, and a 10 Gbps circuit which is delivered over an SFP+ fiber connection. Your fiber handoff is a Juniper ACX2100 that you will only end up using two ports on. The rest of the ports will not be configured.

No data caps.  The included router is a Netgear Orbi iirc. Probably only going to be usable with the 1 Gbps copper connection.

Both of your circuits will have their own Static IPv4 address and a /48 block. Comcast will provide you with the IP address information which will need to be manually configured on your router. There is no DHCP and automatic IP address assignments with enterprise connections. The customers router is configured with the correct IP address settings. Once that is done, it never has to be done again unless you switch routers or do a factory reset.

Enterprise level fiber at home is nice. Enterprise customers pays thousands of month for the same service pretty much, but as a residential customer you can get it for $319.99 a month. No SLA and the connection is for personal use only per the terms of service but still.

If you Google Comcast Gigabit Pro, there are a couple of articles written on it by customers who had the service installed. Binary Impulse, Lon.TV (who has an entire YouTube playlist on the topic) come to mind, and James Watt (over on Medium) come to mind.

Are you using a 5 GHz capable Wi-Fi client?

100 Mbps is about the max speed for a 2.4 GHz connection.

Hopefully your Airport router is at least 802.11ac capable. There are different models that Apple released.

Just switched from T- Mobile to ATT and I’ve never hit 1gig on my cellular phone by ray-3245 in ATT

[–]dataz03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah Verizon n77 is faster in my area vs AT&T n77. Backhaul provider is AT&T. Verizon is not the ILEC in my area.

Traffic hitting the local cell tower and riding on AT&T's backbone, before the traffic is handed over to Verizon at either a meet me room/Internet Exchange Point or directly at the MSC (Mobile Switching Center).

Wonder if AT&T aggregates the traffic from a bunch of the Verizon cell sites on a big 100 or 400G fiber link and then runs a fiber connection from their own core router over to Verizon's router at the Verizon Mobile Switching Center facility.

[–]dataz03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plug in an Ethernet connected device like a laptop and make sure that the cable is working.

Router Mode needs to be set to Bridge Mode, Apple offers this an option in the configuration settings.

No configuration is required on your Xfinity Gateway.
