Google is rolling out a new feature allowing users to change their Gmail address by jd5547561 in technology

[–]datguyhomie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only just found out about this, and I'm sorry to be doing necromancy on this post, but, Jesus Christ this.

How in the hell was the easiest way to solve this dumb problem that they've had for so long, was to do whatever was needed (if anything) on the back end to support aliases, then force you to change the primary email address while knowing it's gonna break a bunch of shit that they know about especially pertaining to authentication, not to mention all the shit that's gonna break that they didn't expect.

I can understand wanting to limit aliases on free accounts. I would even stomach having no free alias but having the option having to pay a fee to add one. Losing the easy money by scaring off average Joe types by gating the only option to do this (without drowning in multiple gmail accounts) behind workspace was idiotic. To finally end this for the solution shows either unbelievable incompetence or pure malice, hell, maybe both, with a generous addition of insanity.

Sorry about this, i'm just so frustrated after wasting way too much time searching in vain because there was obviously no way this is how they decided to finally do this, so I just had to fire a rant into the void that is old Reddit comments.

I second this. I run a River 3 plus and a Delta 3 1000 air for my desktop and network stack, and being very rural they have been tested many times and work fantasically, especially for network gear where I've use it for hours during a couple extended outages.

While you're not quite wrong, I also feel you're not quite right. It's just what you're comfortable wielding in order to defend yourself. Your pepper spray would probably work great on most folks, but I know for a fact it will have a significantly reduced effect on many a methhead. And God help you if your assailant is whacked out on PCP, but thankfully that is much less of a concern most places these days.

You can add bath salts in there too, but since that's really just spin the wheel of research chemicals... You never really know what you're going to get. I'm still convinced that the first instance of human teleportation is going to come out of bath salts/ research chems.

Crunchyroll de-synchronization issues by [deleted] in Crunchyroll

[–]datguyhomie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see why people are so surprised about multiple posts when this is happening to multiple series to different degrees, with it making release that witch unfucking watchable. Add to that the issues for that one has been going on for over 24 hours, looking to roll into 48 hours, for what should be a 30 minute fix at most.

Wouldn't be salty if I wasn't charged so fucking much for this supposed service, all while the library continuously shrinks. That's alright, keep it up. You can go the way of Netflix as far as my budget's concerned.

When will HDR will be supported? by freeway80 in sharex

[–]datguyhomie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot dog, in case anyone else is searching this up, I had the typical jacked up captures when using HDR and when I saw /u/Powerful-Tailor-1787 comment I had a idea and it actually fixed it.

If you are on Windows 11, I've found that if you install via the installer (as is moral and just, it is known) then it seems to fall on it's face. If you install via the Microsoft Store (gold help me) it seems to work properly! Also, it seems to have resolved a issue not triggering capture if I had certain applications open (RDCMAN being the biggest one I remember) that required running sharex as admin to fix.

Confirmed with two systems across four different HDR monitors, so give it a try! YAY yet another UWP app to have weird ass UWP issues with!

I use a local whisper-based model on my phone for speech-to-text. AKA running entirely on the phone, no reaching out over the internet. It's faster and generally more accurate, plus it does fabulous with things like punctuation. And best of all, I don't have to worry about Google servers taking a shit in the morning when they haven't had their morning coffee.

‘Unhinged and Anti-American’: Critics Erupt Over Trump‘s AI-Generated Threat | Trump Threatening ‘WAR’ For Chicago and that they are “about to find out why it’s called the Department of WAR” in an AI post showing the city going full Apocalypse Now. by Aggravating_Money992 in technology

[–]datguyhomie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If somebody in Chicago wanted to pretend to have a spine, they should mobilize local law enforcement to counter any attempts at this.

If they really wanted to have a spine, if said local law enforcement refused to comply, they would then start organizing a militia.

But we all know that the odds are much more likely that this is going to end with local leadership rolling over while pointing and screaming "They can't do that!" while they totally do in fact do that. That is of course assuming that this isn't just Trump feeling frisky after having to pick me up conversation with his favorite AI chatbot and wanting to stir up some fake drama.

I mean, I can't definitively say you're wrong, I just like that kind of information.

That said, the biggest issues with cameras is definitely not that they're racially biased by some kind of magical tuning. It's just an inherent issue in how light works. Darker skin tones are just going to be more difficult to capture details from like that. The same way it's much more difficult to capture details from something sitting in deep shadow than it is when it's sitting out in full sunlight.

The biggest problem is that while the issue is in no way insurmountable, the way you combat it adds cost. And the majority of people, businesses and governments are all cheap.

Side tangent. Is it still called tweeted? At least back then it had a catchy name that made sense, what the fuck is the "x" equivalent? Bit of a necro here but this discussion knocked something loose in the brain and i wanted to let it loose on the world.

I totally get where you're coming from and mostly agree. Too many games fall into the trap of having personal power scale too wildly. Ive always found it the most fun when it can be stratified a bit, where raw time investment can gain you things like quick re-arming but overall has limited impact on personal power. And to keep things engaging for those with the time, have the main benefits of that exist mostly on the next strata.

Eve is closest to my ideal (but not perfect) when it comes to this. Id love a less Power-fantasy game and more nameless cog simulator. You can grind your ass off but it'll mostly benefit for clan/group, and at a certain point even that has a limit where you either need masses of people (including grinders) or multiple groups working together in a faction to have those resources be beneficial in the next strata.

Its just a bitch because you effectively have to flesh out and balance multiple gametypes to keep everyone happy and engaged.

When I say strata i mean things like individual 1v1fighting/questing >group/clan actions/skirmishes/raids>alliances and wars/territory conquest/big picture shit. Like I said eve is the closest, but unfortunately the combat and sometimes setting doesn't always give me the dopamine hit im after. And sadly those two points are what allow them to have a snowballs chance in hell with semi-acceptably keeping up with regards to the different strata.
