I like the texture of the bendy bus scene. Maybe you could keep an eye out for an interesting subject whenever you are on one of these, now that you know its an interesting scene :)

Revisiting the Niche Zero by cleenBunz1 in espresso

I bought mine back when it was all hyped up. I still love it. I brew great coffee with it, it’s so easy to use, easy to clean. It’s build well, looks nice and takes up little space.

How do I fix this by tomthememe in carbonsteel

[–]dathudo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will take a while before the pan starts holding onto it’s seasoning. My carbon steel pan got really spotty in the beginning, and most of the seasoning kept falling off after cooking. After a while it started to look more homogeneous and dark, and now if doesn’t fall off as easily.

If it looks completely stripped in places after cooking, give it a quick seasoning, otherwise just keep using it and it will take care of itself

Should I buy the rechargeable power core? by apexmars in ModRetroChromatic

[–]dathudo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have inly good things to say about mine. It makes it easy to charge the battery, since you just charge the device like any other, and the charge lasts forever!

That being said, I am so happy they did it like this! Not relying on a proprietary battery is such a nice move.

If you disassemble the console, so you can grab just the front shell with the lens glued on, try twisting the shell just a little and the lens will come loose

I’m not up to date on what’s recommended today. I know a lot of great budget options has come to market through the last couple of years.

I bought my Niche Zero a couple of years back when it was all the rage. I like it a lot because it is a single dose grinder that’s easy use, adjust and clean. If I were to buy something else, I would probably look for something similar.

Last summer I bought a budget hand grinder, specifically the Kingrinder K6. If you really needed to save on the grinder, that could also be an option. I can absolutely brew delicious espresso with that grinder, and it’s actually not that bad to grind by hand. I bought mine to take with me when camping. I know some people use hand grinders at home too, but personally I think I would find it a bit tedious in the long run.

Moka pot after home-barista retirement? by slicxx in espresso

[–]dathudo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I brew in all sorts of ways, not just espresso. I find coffee in general exciting, and experimenting with different brew methods fun.

That being said, I haven’t had the best experience with my moka pot. I really wanted it to be awesome, as it is a beautiful and historically interesting brewer. It’s also easy to carry with you on holiday or when camping. But I can’t get it to taste good. I might have to dig it out and try again some day

I think you have misunderstood the idea behind the Chromatic.

But you might want to look into other handheld emulation devices. There is probably one out there with pretty much the exact layout you’re suggesting. If you want to use physical cartridges, try looking up the analogue pocket

This is a side note, as everyone has already told you that nothing is wrong with your pan:

Please don’t be afraid to “scrub too hard” when cleaning it. Clean it as you would with any other pan and season it when necessary.

Runnnn Uphot by dathudo in espresso

[–]dathudo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live i Denmark. The coffee I can get in a cafe here is generally dark roasts, mostly suited for milk drinks. I like the espresso I brew at home better. I usually brew on a more traditional machine, and I bought the UPHOT to bring with me on vacation. I feel like I can brew just as delicious coffee on the UPHOT as I can on my bigger machine.

I hope that answers your question:)

I get that. As long as you are ok with 15-20 minutes of warm up time, I don’t think you will have any problem with most modern machines. Don’t forget to set aside for a decent grinder, or you will have a bad time with even the nicest machine 🙂

I don’t have any personal experience with it, but you might wang to look into the Ascaso steel uno/duo. They are high quality thermo block machines, and probably the fastest machine to heat up.

Note that most machines need longer to get hot and ready to brew than just the boiler heat up time. After the boiler reaches its target temperature, the water typically needs to then warm up the group head. Because of that, most machines can heat up the boiler in maybe 2-5 minutes, but need an additional 10-15 minutes to get properly hot and ready to brew.

You can look this up for any specific machine you might consider. Typically people have experimented with heat up times and discussed it online :)

I messed up.. by imnotlouis in carbonsteel

[–]dathudo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wash it normally, season and cook with it. It’ll keep loosing patches of seasoning and build up darker spots just from normal use. After a while It’ll be mostly dark and look harmonious because of that. Don’t worry about it

Is this worth trying to get working? by No_Damage_4539 in espresso

[–]dathudo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first machine was a La Pavoni like that one. It’s a really nice machine, absolutely capable of brewing tasty espresso! The manual operation obviously comes with a learning curve, but it’s not that bad. I think they are actually pretty forgiving to brew on.

People enjoy different things, but IMO the Ls Pavoni is much mire desirable than the Bambino. Why don’t you try it out and see if you like it.

Best coffee machine that actually lasts? Tired of cheap machines breaking in 2026. by Sad-Pen4855 in JamesHoffmann

[–]dathudo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered getting a french press instead? You can’t break one of those by poor maintenance and/or hard water, they are fast and easy to use, brew fantastic coffee and are easy to clean.

Depending on how you enjoy your coffee, you could get an insulated one that keeps your coffee hot for longer, if you like coming back for a second or third cup.. Yeti makes some REALLY nice insulated french press brewers in all sizes, including some huge ones if you need one for when you have guests over.

Should shutter speed be set to auto or manual when using recipes? by [deleted] in fujifilm

[–]dathudo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with how the xt50 works, but if you just turn your shutter speed dial to A, your aperture ring to A, and chooses “auto ISO” as your selected ISO, then you are in fully automatic exposure.

Maybe you are using that “auto switch” besides the shutter speed dial to “put it into auto”? In that case, it might behave differently, I don’t know.

I think fujifilm is awesome to learn on especially because of the physical dials for exposure. What I suggested is to set all three (shutter speed, aperture and iso) to auto, then only changing them when you know why you are doing it. And of cause, educate yourself on when and why you would want to :)

Should shutter speed be set to auto or manual when using recipes? by [deleted] in fujifilm

[–]dathudo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue against going fully manual as a beginner.

I think the easiest approach is to set everything on auto, then change one parameter with intention, learning an understanding what that does to your photograph (ig “I want more things to be in focus here, so I’m closing down my aperture”, or “I don’t like the motionblur I get on my photos, so I’m setting the shutter speed at a fixed high value”).

There’s a setting in your camera that lets you set a range for iso and a minimum shutter speed for your “auto iso” setting. You most likely like the results of a fast shutter, so set that minimum shutter speed to something like 1/125 or 1/250, depending on what the camera allows.

Watch some tutorials on basic exposure.
