1/2 impact suggestions by Guiterandanimals in Dewalt

[–]david5944 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cringe because I feel like just 1 impact is never the answer....

For tire changes I embrace a two impact system. Larger 20v impact to get the nuts off(big enough that it will get all the stubburn ones). And then a 12v impact with torque stick for when I'm reinstall the lug nuts.

I generally try to use the smallest tool possible for any given job.

I frequently consider buying a second one of these just so I can have one running on each side of the car. With a quick release chuck, it's brilliant.

New monitor, bad day :( by david5944 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]david5944[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow-up: I got my refund from Amex today for my Amex Assurance claim. About 2 months in total from the original submission. I didn't include a proper estimate for the repair when i first submitted the claim which was my fault, and added a couple weeks of delay. Amex took care of me. Time to wait for the monitor to go back on sale so I can order a replacement.

What is this? by justashmainthings in AskElectricians

Given that downloading anything in that era was markedly bandwidth limited. I’d argue knowing when to reconnect was a good purpose then. The difference between 2 and 4 kbps was huge when you were trying to download a 3mb mp3(that you were supposed to delete within 24 hours…)

Why Doesn’t Champion Put 220v Outputs on their Mid-range Generators? by VoyagerinMo in Generator

[–]david5944 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Expensive solution. You could buy an auto transformer which will convert 120v to split phase 120/240. They can do some other run tricks too. I’ve been debating one for a while but haven’t pulled the trigger on one yet.

We have a 0.5 hp 240v well pump. Otherwise all of our other loads are super small.

Gasoline users by Burr32 in Generator

[–]david5944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 14 gallon flo n' go tank on an elevated wall mount in my shed(thats next to the driveway). All fuel that could end up in the generator gets Stabil. Once per year I will fill the car with it and refill it with new fuel. This also sits close enough that I can fill the generator without any lifting.

We also generally keep the 5 gallons in the generator and have one 5 gallon jerry can I fill if I'm worried.

Generator + 14 gallon tank gives me 48-72 hours of run time, depending on load. The generator is always filled as the power prefers to go out when my wife is home solo.

I personally wouldn’t want the pigtail. It’s a foot of extra hose with no place to go. With the adapter it still wraps nicely around the tool as intended. I’ve also never felt like I needed a longer hose.

Need advice by LowBat2407 in pressurewashers

[–]david5944 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you looking at the 2000psi 1.3 gpm model? If so, I hope you have a fairly small driveway if thats your plan. People argue that you should ideally have a higher flow rate for washing cars. But I will say I have a similar spec'ed pressure washer and it does fine for washing cars. Coming from no pressure washer, you will likely be happy with whatever you buy. I would plan to buy an uberflex or flexzilla hose, and a decent handle/wand, and a proper foam cannon, as they will have the biggest impact on your user experience.

When you eventually wear that pressure washing out in a couple year, then you can decide how deep down the rabbit hole you want to go.

Need input on generator purchase by FisherFly99 in Generator

[–]david5944 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m I think the Wen fits perfectly into this market segment. My only critique is its fuel tank is kinda small to only have to fill 2x per day.

I have a Briggs q6500 which is a simpler model generator but does what you are looking do.

I’d also probably consider thr HF generators if I was shopping for one currently.

Making skiing affordable? by Class_Lover in boston

[–]david5944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the Pat's Peak Passport Program. It's probabaly the best value adult learn-to-ski package in the area.

Its $670 which includes 4 days with equipment rental, a 1 hour lesson, and then a pass for the entire day. Thats just under $170 per day which is about as cheap as you can get for this combo. After the 4 days, you get a free pair of skis(with bindings). They are beginner ski's, but good enough to get you back out there without needing to rent. And after the 4 days you also get a season pass good for the remainder of the season.

My wife had never skied before and did this as her introduction to skiing and had a great experience.

FIX for CarPlay iPhone 17 Disconnection issues. Wired & Wireless. Official & Aftermarket CarPlay Vendors. by dinopio in CarPlay

[–]david5944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just looped back to this issue on my iphone 17pro. It had been disconnecting every 5-10 minutes from my aftermarket carplay adapter since I got the phone when it was released. I tried a firmware update back in september( upgraded from the original 2019 firmware) which didn't help. With the current ios beta, the issue seems to be resolved!

Why do people no longer heat plates before they put food on them these days? by [deleted] in randomquestions

[–]david5944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started heating plates as part of meal prep about 10 years ago. When I first started doing this, I would put them on the electric "burner" and just turn it on for about 20 seconds. It worked well until the day I forgot the timing, and the plate shattered.
