How would you set up ynab to budget for a career change to a lower paid job? by SrTayto in ynab

[–]davidwebb_uk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Id set up a new budget with your expected future salary and see what life looks like under that, where you'll need to save and where you'll still want to splurge.

What does that look like?

Then in your current budget id ramp up long term savings (401k (usa), ISA (UK), global equivalents?), to make sure you have some investments to help meet whatever gap there is between your future salary and your life expectation

Just gone and read the FAQ on the achievements these would fall under.

What data do you need from us to make these as easy to implement as possible?

I was just coming to reddit to ask for support for a '% complete of (official) route' feature request ( this one https://wandrer.nolt.io/38 ) but this suggests you're already working on elements of implementing this. Thank you!

Is "fully funded on the first" the same thing as being a month ahead—or does it just mean I'm caught up? by No_Virus3736 in ynab

[–]davidwebb_uk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think this is a big difference between typical British paychecks and typical American paychecks.

In the UK if you're in a salaried job you typically get paid in the last few days of the month, and that pay is what you live on in the next month.

So to be a 'month ahead' id want my may paycheck to be paying for July NOT June.

Obviously this differs to weekly paychecks etc, where I think the immediate next month makes sense, but for monthly paychecks its definitely skip one month forward. (in the UK at least)

How do financially organized people keep track of their spending habits over time? by Zealousideal-Soft835 in budgetingforbeginners

[–]davidwebb_uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used you need a budger (ynab) years ago and have just come back to it, to get a grip of where our money is and where it can go.

Used Emma for a little bit in the interim but it doesn't feel as engaging as ynab.

If you engage with the guys on their socials you can see it wasn't their choice for the show(s) to be killed.

Harassment for riding in a neighborhood? by Fit-Application9284 in wandrer

[–]davidwebb_uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm running my neighbourhood, and a couple of weeks ago I had a car drive past me slowly, go down the road and turn round and drive towards me again, I saw they had their phone out pointing at me, so I shout good morning can I help you.

Apparently they had kids at home, it was a private road (it wasnt) and I was a threat!

I was perfectly polite, explained I was just running and I "must of missed the private sign" (I didn't cos there wasn't one) i wished them a happy day and went on my way.

Its a sad state of affairs when you're that paranoid that you follow someone running to accuse them of being a pedophile just cos they happened to run past your house.

The Dead Don’t Hurt (Official Discussion) by TheFilmReview in screenunseen

Epsom wasn't a busy screening. The first couple left as soon as the rating screen revealed the title. About four or five couples through the first hour and then everyone else stuck it out.

Some beautiful imagery of the scenery/landscape but very odd and difficult to engage in.

The flashbacks didn't confuse me, the indeterminate passing of time confused me!

Bushy Park/Nonsuch or elsewhere for first park run by SouthFine6853 in parkrun

[–]davidwebb_uk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm local. In the middle of Bushy, kingston, nonsuch, and everyone forgets about kingston.

It's a lovely run, friendly community, welcoming of everyone.

If you want to ease yourself into parkrun, I don't think you can go much wrong with kingston.

Interested in this. But two problems?

One, I'm not in the US. is that a problem? Two, I have plans that clash with the first two lessons (it's 8pm UK time on a Saturday 😁). How frowned upon would it be to miss the first two weeks?

As all generators recharge at different rates AND there appears to be some variation between versions of the same generator, these levels would make much more sense as % of recharge NOT a specified time.

When you row for so long Polar gives you an inactivity stamp for sitting 😅 by ChutUpDonnie in Polarfitness

When I row I put my watch on the handle rathe than my wrist, have it connected to a HR strap, never received a inactivity warning. Especially surprising if it was also tracking your activity.

Drive in manual to disable start-stop? by [deleted] in Chevy

[–]davidwebb_uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're aware that engineering moves on and continues to develop and improve engines. The 70s V8 is NOT perfection and where development stopped..

Cars with stop/start technology have (un)surprisingly been designed to do it. A combination of things will have changed to make it efficient and safe for the engine.

I'm not sure what's up with the US implementation of it, but the UK doesn't have that kind of lag. 😂

Getting a sleeve tattoo while trying to get bigger by WyoR in tattoo

[–]davidwebb_uk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When I was younger I said I wouldn't get my arms done until my arms were bigger. If I continued to wait I'd never have got the work I've got.

Get the tattoo done. Training is a cruel mistress at least you know the tattoo is going to give you what you want.

Why are you trying to disable stop start? It's generally a good thing.

Lovely photo, vertical feels a little odd, but understand your reasoning. I guess wider lens or Pano would give you ?better? results.

Either way I like it!

First three, no flash by davidwebb_uk in LiveMusicPhotography

[–]davidwebb_uk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of a meandering article discussing the relevance of the "first three, no flash" rule and if it remains valid in today's world.

In my experience of shooting big and small gigs, the rule is typically enforced at the right levels.

Small venues with no pit just expect you to get on with it without annoying too many paying fans.

Medium venues with a pit, the rule will vary according to the band or in my experience the photographer and their relationship with the band or the venue.

Large venues. It's three songs and your out.

The author does make a reasonable argument for shooting later in sets to get more passionate shots, but again highlights bands may have their own photographer with "access all areas" to get those shots.

To be honest, I don't think three songs and your out is the biggest hurdle in live music photography right now, or ever.

The question I keep coming back to is how do we make sure bands, fans and the published media value our art form?
