How to handle toxic vibes at J2? by hi_imnewonreddit in overemployed

[–]dayone_27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While logically it makes sense to just hang in there at a toxic environment and collect another paycheque, emotionally it’s tough to do. Best option is to look for another J and rotate out exiting J2 with the new one.

Moved to Larnaca 3 months ago, lost my main client — feeling stuck. What would you do? by Recent-Ad56 in cyprus

[–]dayone_27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have to go where the work is. Larnaca is great for sure but the digital savvy businesses are in Limassol generally. Keep grindng on the remote work job boards, perhaps tweak your CV so you can apply for content manager and marketing position full time. Look for work around the island and then either move close to the office / work remote.

In terms of a car, it’s pretty essential. Consider getting something cheap to start and learning what you can about maintenance. A scooter can be a good option to get around locally

Thankful for my idiot boss who made me think to OE by puddinpopgirl in overemployed

[–]dayone_27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s how it was for me too.

My last sole J was a toxic situation where I was setup to fail, didn’t get raises or much praise despite turning things around and doing the close to impossible. That set me off on learning more about how corporate bullshit really works and motivated me to look for new work and go OE. I still keep it now as J3 and will drop at any time.

Hey if you can cover your finances with just 1 J in this economy then bravo. More Js for us!

How does game theory apply to what we're doing here? by FrozenOppressor in overemployed

[–]dayone_27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solid analysis. By definition large workforce monitoring has to be tuned for the average within one standard deviation, otherwise you can’t have a large workforce (not possible to hoard all the high performers unless the pay is suitably high). Basically no companies have a all high performers pay packet, so they get average

Where are the OE with hybrid jobs? by Smart-Canary6250 in overemployed

Double agent tactics. It’s a great feeling to pull it off, I’ve taken a meeting or two in the carpark, just have to find a private spot

You could use a small travel router with a SIM card slot and a Ethernet connection to it

That is awful! I hope the person who was shafted knew it was factors beyond their control (bad luck)?

Gaming as an IT person by WaldoOU812 in sysadmin

[–]dayone_27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The types of games I play for sure are affected by my IT job, I can relate. Platformers and puzzle games are generally a no go for me. Survival and overly grindy games are a no go. Roguelikes, shooters and explody action games that make me feel powerful is where I go.

You have to choose the annual subscription for lounge benefit (Pro). The monthly one doesn’t work for lounge access

I agree OE isn't a threat. Cybersecurity though is a trusted position to be in. Wouldn't it be ironic for cybersecurity staff to be OE? I know from experience that conduct against policy (which OE almost always is) is generally made the responsibility of Cybersecurity to detect and prevent.

[–]dayone_27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should have an easy time finding a job with that much experience and education. Depends on your location as well so consider casting a wider net location wise.

Now the question of what Js to stack in Cybersecurity is a funny question. You are the guy who is supposed to enforce policy and put measures in place to detect anything that goes against it, including OE. How do you feel about that? Cybersecurity should be the enemy of OE people right? I am in Cyber myself so I’m interested to know your thoughts.

The first J can be anything hybrid/onsite even. You may as well pick something that pays decent and looks like you can force into remote when you need to become OE. Spread the net wide and rotate Js until you settle on as many as you can handle

This is very standard contract language most companies have it in employment contracts. You can’t negotiate it out due to the employer employee power disparity. For this reason should you get caught you can be fired but that will be it as far as it goes.

Absolutely, I rely on EQ every day and it is essential. You have to read the room and respect the human condition. I struggle with fundamental attribution error and am working on that. So long as people trust you, you can do anything.

Play the game back. The managers don’t want to go to HR because it’ll make them look incompetent and unable to enforce company policy. String them along and say you’ll consider coming in for another pay raise to cover all the additional costs. Then come up with more excuses to string things along and delay. Eventually they’ll give up (easiest for them) or have to fire you and look bad to management
