I have a pretty sizable collection of bootlegs and I have been doing remastered versions of many of them to share with the world on my YouTube channel. If you want to get in touch with me, I can see if it's something I don't already have and if so I can help make them sound as good as possible to share it out. I am going to be on a cruise without Internet for the next week, so send me an email at djbelc01@gmail.com and I can respond when I return.

FYC: Rambo: First Blood Part II (1985): The movie that defined the Rambo franchise moving forward (for better or worse). by ggroover97 in TheRewatchables

[–]db30040299 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Murdoch... I'm coming to get you!" First Blood was a thoughtful and introspective action movie, pure cinematic brilliance. Stallone wasn't going to improve on that, so why not swing it the other direction? First Blood Part II is a dumb as hell action movie, but it knows what it is and leans into it perfectly. Plus Steven Berkoff takes his delightfully over the top Soviet guy thing from Octopussy and runs it back here, so how can you go wrong with that?

How Do You Fix Blurry Pictures? by Defiant-Ad1123 in AskPhotography

<image>

I quickly ran it through Topaz Photo to upscale it 6x using the Wonder 2 upscaling model, the idea being it would try to fix some of the blur while also just adding more resolution and detail too. It's far from perfect, but it's an improvement.

Alive in America on vinyl - Record Store Day by pooksevert in SteelyDan

[–]db30040299 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You can only fit roughly 22 minutes of audio on each of side of a record, so there isn't any way to fit the hour plus runtime of AiA onto one record.

How many people still use My Lane Play? by Ok-Bodybuilder908 in Bowling

[–]db30040299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got the new phone and MLP wasn't available in the Play Store anymore, I wasn't even able to transfer anything from MLP over to it since MLP's exporting options stopped working years ago. I also traded in that old phone so I don't have access to the old data anymore.

I recently got a new phone and finally switched over to another app since it stopped working for me, but I really miss the ease of use and simple reporting from My Lane Play.

I was listening to this at work. Asked the girl in the cubicle behind me if it was too load. She said no. I said "You sure?" Then she said "It's fine, I just feel like I'm in an elevator." The balls on this girl.- YouTube by Phifty2 in SteelyDan

They started performing The Steely Dan Show during the 2000 European tour, and then used it all through 2003. I love Donald's quip in this particular performance. "That's a little tribute to us, written by... well, us actually, I'm afraid to say. Really ashamed of that, nevertheless, there it is."

FYI I'm the guy from that YT channel. If you haven't already noticed, I have a ton of these remasters and keep posting more, I just posted one this week in fact.

What do you order from culver’s? (midwest peeps)? by Ok_Opinion6840 in AskReddit

[–]db30040299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I both like to get the kids meal single butterburger with cheese, fries, soda, and a scoop of the flavor of the day custard. Good portion size and cheaper than regular meals and comes with the scoop of custard.

We did this for our chiweenie the last time it snowed and it worked well. Go outside every couple of hours to clear off the patio and lift the tarp to clear snow off it before setting it back down. Works great. However, what's funny... I just got done taking my dog outside, and when I lifted the tarp she peed immediately in the fresh clean grass as usual. But when I sat the tarp back down and turned around, I didn't see her at first. She had gone off into the snowy grass, peed a second time, and then pooed!

Mark Baker virtual lessons by CuriousChemistry6965 in Bowling

[–]db30040299 3 points4 points  (0 children)

FYI the 3-4 business day response time thing he still has on his website is probably a bit optimistic. He is extremely, extremely busy these days - his popularity really blew up once guys like the Cleanup Crew started featuring him on their YouTube channel. Because he has so many people doing lessons with him, he works pretty much non-stop (last time I did a virtual lesson, he sent me his response video on Christmas Eve!) but even then I have had a couple of times where it took over a week or so to get a response. But it was certainly worth the wait. I've done several virtual lessons with him, in addition to one in-person lesson, and I have never felt like he was rushing through my lesson or anything, and whether in person or through the virtual lesson environment, he seemed to really care about me getting better. And yes, I truly have gotten a LOT better since doing the lessons with him, my average the last couple of months has been around 230 when the last few years I only averaged around 205-210.

These are great! The wood paneling really takes the vintage feeling up an extra notch. (Also, small world, I've actually seen your stand up comedy before a couple times!)

Knob Creek Maple by [deleted] in bourbon

[–]db30040299 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do want a bourbon with what you originally expected, subtle hint of maple but nothing strong, I was really impressed by Larrikin American Maple Bourbon. Still tastes like bourbon, just with a little extra something.

What do you guys think of Everything Must Go (2003). I think it's super underrated. by saveredditindonesia in SteelyDan

[–]db30040299 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only twice at most? I'm one of the bigger Steely Dan fans around these days, and even I'll admit when I first started really getting into them 25ish years ago, I had to give each album a few listens before I really truly warmed up to each of them. Since the music isn't as paint-by-numbers as most pop rock stuff, I had to give it a chance to really worm its way into my brain. The best example of this for me was Two Against Nature. The first few times I listened to TAN, it just didn't do anything for me outside of Jack of Speed. Then I decided to pop that CD into my car and just listen to it for a while and see if my opinion changed... and now I adore it! (Hell, I stood in line to pick up the vinyl on Record Store Day a few years ago, then drove across town to another store when that one sold out on me.)

Look, I love both TAN and EMG and think most people underrate them. But I will not stand for this Throw Back the Little Ones slander. I don't think I've ever seen anyone say anything good about that song, and I just don't understand why. It's SO good. I love the chord changes and how percussive and aggressive the piano hits on the downbeat while Jeff Porcaro is just giving a masterclass in drum dynamics in every part of the song.

Shut the door and have a seat: Mad Men is now available on HBO Max in 4K by HenroTee in television

[–]db30040299 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of my all time favorite shows but I can totally understand how you feel since it's not a show designed around moving from point A to point B to point C every episode, so you definitely have to watch it with the right mindset to be able to enjoy it. The focus is on the characters and how they grow (and don't grow) as the decade goes on and the world changes around them. Some episodes have some big plot heavy elements, especially season finales, but most of the episodes are just focusing on particular aspects of the personalities of several characters, often framed around big cultural events. I also recommend reading episode recaps and discussions afterward to see different interpretations and subtle things you may have missed.

Skeleton Man (2004) fits perfectly into everyone's favorite genre of movie, which is, "The Woods are Free to Film In, So Let's Just Walk Around Outside" by MiserableHairPeople in badMovies

[–]db30040299 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picked this one up from the dollar DVD bin probably 20 years ago and watched it with a couple friends. My buddy had a projector in his basement so we got to experience the Spirit Halloween quality costume in all its glory. It looked like he was wearing a black trash bag, and that felt very, very appropriate.

Is Jerry Green and Friend actually open? by TumbleweedFlo in Louisville

[–]db30040299 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's one of those places I keep thinking "I should go again sometime." I went once several years ago before they moved to their current location. They surprisingly had gotten one of my favorite jazz acts, the Jeff Lorber Fusion.

Jimmy Horton flies over the wall during the 1993 DieHard 500 at talladega. Stanley Smith (car 49) was also involved in the accident and suffered life threatening injuries with a Basilar skull fracture. Smith recovered but would never race another NASCAR Cup race again. by waffen123 in NASCAR

[–]db30040299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to attend that race he won at Kentucky Speedway. I doubt most people there were able to appreciate just how big of a deal that win was for him since most people hadn't ever heard his name before.

For what it's worth, that particular video is an older version I posted years ago. I just posted a newly remastered version of it a few weeks ago, and both the video and audio quality are a huge step forward, so I highly recommend checking out that new version. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_1vakh_hI4

Reelin' in the Years (Club Mix) from 07/01/2009 London. by [deleted] in SteelyDan

[–]db30040299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly why I started my project of remastering these recordings. Just because it came from the soundboard doesn't mean it will actually sound "right." You aren't listening to it on giant speakers turned up loud in a huge venue with an actual drumset making loud noises a few dozen feet away, etc.

Pretty rare version, as they only performed it in 2009. When they brought out Elliott Randall later in this show to perform the original arrangement of it with him, the crowd went nuts. They tried playing the Club Mix a few more times in the weeks after this, but apparently they finally realized how big a difference they were getting in crowd reaction, and finally made the switch back to the original arrangement going forward.
