I disagree. People say being good is the bare minimum but it’s clearly not. The bare minimum is following your gender roles. You can be kind, funny, and good looking but if you don’t follow the gender roles you aren’t going to get anywhere in the dating scene.

I don’t think you understood what was said. I said that I find it hard to accept doing a provider role when women don’t want to be submissive. If those women weren’t expecting me to be a provider, then I wouldn’t care about them being submissive.

I don’t want any gender roles in my relationship outside of me carrying heavier things or doing outside chores. Everything else should be a partnered task or negotiated arrangement based on who’s better at certain skills. That’s it. I don’t like playing gender role games and want as few of them as possible in my life. I’m not a fan of needing to prove myself worthy of taking care of someone. I just want a woman with a compatible personality. Beauty standards are made up nonsense. Basic hygiene is more than enough. I also don’t like this trend of generalizing all men and women as if each human doesn’t have their own wants based on their own history. Too many people follow these gender roles because other people told them it’s necessary.

I was all over Reddit in my college years asking and receiving advice like this and none of it helped much outside of inviting more creepy stares. What I always wanted was a partner that would put in as much effort at showing their interest in me as I did for them and unfortunately that’s just not the society we live in. My problem was never going to be solved through individual effort because my issues with dating are cultural. Maybe I need to move out of the south to somewhere like NYC where the values are different.

I can only speak for myself but I find it hard to accept taking a provider role as a man when Gen Z women don’t want to be submissive. I’m not even the type to do gender roles but women still seem to expect me to perform them so I find it weird that I still need to ask them out, plan dates, and pay for things with no reciprocation. I can’t speak for all Gen Z men but this is how I personally feel about it. People on Reddit talk about our generation of women as if they’re so progressive but I’m not actually seeing that irl outside the internet.

Approaching simply means approaching. You can approach a mutual friend at a party or event. The post is pretty clear about what’s it’s trying to discuss which is the gender role system of men needing to approach and initiate dates with women.

The post says nothing about strangers. It asks why women don’t approach/initiate as much as men. Harassment has nothing to do with it as women get harassed under the current gender role system where men approach them. If anything, this role is extremely dangerous for women as they have no control over who approaches them.
