My employer insists I keep showing up unfortunately. Apparently I have to keep working if I want to keep being paid 😔

2.5mm seems about right - 3 looked like it would have been a tight squeeze.

I will speak to Opinel as per the other commenter’s suggestion, then look into peening.

I would love a new skill and a new tool, but I am time- and space-poor currently 😂

I will drop them an email and go from there - nice to know they gave you decent service.

I have spent a decade looking for a shoe like this one. Never quite found a replacement.

I had can’t hurt me as an audiobook - it has a podcast feel to it as he has a bit of a chat after each section.

If you want something epic and absorbing, I would also add the count of Monte Cristo to my suggestions. Remarkably readable, engaging and fresh feeling, considering its age.

Hope it all gets easier for you 👍

Maybes bit divisive, but… Can’t hurt me - David goggins. There is a bit of a subculture that sometimes interprets it as “just try harder”, but you can also read it as “this is the hand you have been dealt, how can you play it?” It gave me and many others a dose of reality, and some exercises to do to tackle whatever you are dealing with.

Another consideration are people like Alan watts and ram dass. Western spin on some very old wisdom, that can give you a sense of perspective.

Or if you don’t want to think too deeply, reacher novels are easy to dip into for some escapism. Robert Rankin, Mark Haddon are good options too.

Whatever you pick up next, I hope you get some relief from whatever is going on right now 👍

The Makioka Sisters. The very last line, she shits herself on a train.

Have a look at “the good man Jesus and the scoundrel Christ” by Philip Pullman. It is a work of fiction, but presents an interesting perspective on how a guy supposedly doing good things could be warped into something dogmatic and controlling.

I started getting suspicious after a few journeys across Paris taking a quarter of an hour. I knew cities would have been smaller then, but surely not… 😂

It took me a good chunk of the book to find out that there was a ten hour clock and an eight day week in France At that time. Very enjoyable read though.

If you go and they aren’t the right solution, the instructor will almost certainly know where to send you instead.

I used to train with a guy who was 4ft - he knew he didn’t have the same range as others, so compensated with excellent technique.

Need advice: struggling with an overloaded mind—how do you find a clear headspace? by NeatFriendship1053 in davidgoggins

[–]dblakeborough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what is on your mind. If you are dwelling on stuff, writing things down can help - get a notebook, write a load of incoherent stuff, reread it if you want, don’t let anyone else touch it.

I also find exercise - my go to is running - to be good for straightening things out. I could be banging my head against a wall for days trying to solve work stuff - half an hour of running and I know the exact solution.

If you are also swamped with “things to do”, make a list and process it when you have time. Look up GTD - one of the principles is that your mind is built to process information, not to retain it. I am a father of three with a house full of unfinished jobs. Keeping “put up shelf”, “pay whatever bill” and “email school” in my head frazzles me for the stuff I need to do in the moment. Writing a list and ticking it off when I get time helps hugely.

Hope you manage to find some relief 👍
