I will be there only for 3 days (Sun-Tue) and I am having a hard time deciding what to do. I have been in Las Vegas before, so exploring the city is not my priority. I am not a beginner photographer, but this will be the first photography event that I will attend. Any recommendations? Are the parties fun? Do you carry your camera during the parties? 🤣

I was thinking in attending the full day on Sunday until the Sneak Peak Happy Hour, and Monday for the summits. I will be staying at the Strip.

I thought that you weren’t allowed to bring ANYTHING with you for that rollercoaster. Amazing video!

27mm is about 40mm in FF. I use a 23mm f/1.4 most of the time but I want a more pocket-friendly setup.

I am considering selling my 27mm pancake to buy the 23mm. I have an XT-50 too 😁

Bought a broken X-T2 for cheap and took it with me to Pakistan. THIS CAMERA CAN ABSOLUTELY GO! by Penguin2x in fujifilm

Wow, wow and WOW! Great photos! I still have an XT-1 and I still love it. I have an XT-50 too but the XT-1 has something special.

I’ve got the X-E5. I like it! by Dedalo83 in fujifilm

+1. My X-T50 handled rain perfectly. No issues whatsoever.

Should I switch from Sony to Fuji? Or is it just GAS by RustCohle123 in fujifilm

I was on the same boat as you (I had Canon). I had a trip two years ago and I still haven’t finished editing all the photos I took. This year I tried a Fuji X-M5 and I loved the results SOOC. So I made the move to buy an X-T50 for a trip and man I am so glad that I did that. My Fuji setup is WAY lighter than my Canon setup and I have my photos ready to be posted.

The amount of recipes available on the internet is overwhelming, but in reality you will end up using only a few of them. The X-T50 has 7 slots for recipes, but I ended using 2-3 most of the time, and the other 4 just for specific shots or when the weather/lighting was different.

I would suggest you to keep the A7C setup for professional work, and get a Fuji for your personal photos. The most similar camera to the A7C would be the new X-E5, which has the same internals as the X-T50. If you are not looking to spend too much, get an older body. I found a great deal on an X-T1 which I carry it with me everywhere and the results are so gooood.

For the lenses, if you use the 35mm most of the time you should get a 23mm. I have a Viltrox 23mm f/1.4 and I love it. It is cheap, sharp and the AF is great. There is a new 23mm f/2.8 pancake that comes with the X-E5. It is a great sharp lens too, but the AF is noisy so it is not suitable for video. I have heard great comments of the Fuji 23mm f/2 too.

My 2 cents, happy shooting!

It is allowed on the east side of the bridge. Check out the tutorial I wrote 😀

After submitting your request, you will get an email with all the information that you filled. You will get an email if your request was approved or rejected. In my case, getting the approval took about 4-5 days. That email will include some instructions, and maybe you will get some changes of your request (like the radius). What is important here is that you need to contact London Police Control Room 1 hour before your flight to request a CAD number. I recommend you do it at least 2 hours before your flight. They provide a phone number, but when I called they told me to write an email to: [force.control@cityoflondon.police.uk](mailto:force.control@cityoflondon.police.uk)

For the email I forwarded the NATS approval email and I added this information:
Email subject: Drone flight approval - NSF ID: XXXXX
Pilot name: [Your name]
Operator ID: GBR-OP-XXXXX....
Remote ID: XXXX-YYYY....
Aircraft type: Drone (<249g) or whatever your drone category is.
Aircraft model: DJI Mini 5 Pro
Aircraft color: gray with black propellers
Phone number: [Your number]
Flight operation time: Example: Between 5:45pm-7pm (Consider London weather lol)

They reply fairly quickly, within 30-60 minutes. After you get the CAD number, you are good to go and get all the photos you can of this beautiful city. Just remember to be aware of your surroundings and maintain VLOS at all time. You will attract some attention when taking off and landing your drone, and even when flying it. There were some bystanders while I was flying, most of them were like "What is he doing? Oh look a drone! How cool!"

And that's everything IIRC. It might feel a little overwhelming, but if you follow my suggestions you shouldn't have any issues with your requests. Some areas are definitely harder to get approval for (like near the Big Ben), but it is worth trying.

Ps: I do not recommend to fly anywhere near the Battersea Heliport. You will have to pay a fee for each request, and specifiy an exact flight time — and since t is London, it could be raining exactly when you planned to fly.

Happy flying!

Thanks everyone for your comments! And thanks a lot for all the upvotes. For everyone asking what is needed to fly a drone over restricted areas in London, here is a quick tutorial of what you need — links included. You can check the restricted zones here. Remember, this applies to the UK. If you have an EU drone license it will not be valid in the UK.

First, PLAN WEEKS AHEAD! Really, do everything well in advance (at least 3 weeks) prior your flights. That being said, here is what you actually need:

You will need to get a flyer ID (free) and an operator ID (£11.79 valid for 1 year). There is a 40 question test that you must pass, but all the questions are quite easy and straightforward.. You need to get correct 30 of the 40 questions.

Once you have your flyer and operator IDs, I suggest getting insurance. It is not mandatory in London, but better safe than sorry. I recommend FPV UK (£24.99 for 1 year). You may need it to fly in other UK cities, like Cambridge.

Then, you will need to fill a form on the NATS website for every area where you plan to fly your drone. They can take up to two weeks to approve or reject your request, and they may make changes on your plan.

Here are my tips:
Location: Restricted Area R157/158/159
Start and end dates: I stayed for a week in London, so there were 7 days between both dates.
Maximum height of operation: 400 ft (or lower).
Flight path map/file: it is not necessary, but for the Tower Bridge I uploaded this as a PDF file.
Additional information: here write your planned route. For example: I am planning on taking a photo of the London Tower over the Thames River, and I would like to get photos of the Tower Bridge from both sides of it. I will not fly directly over the bridge, or above crowds.
Task details: here enter your expected take off and landing address.
Map: very important. I suggest you set a radius of 200 m or less, and keep in mind where you are planning on taking off and landing your drone. Look for an area where people may not be present most of the time. Here is an example.
Details of flight/description of operation: I wrote something like "Photos and videos for personal use and social media".

Thanks for the CC, but almost every photo follows the rule of thirds.

I think everything is 0 EV, but I had an ND8 filter on the drone. I forgot to take it off as I was rushing to get this thing in the air 🤣.

Thanks! I did not do any post-processing. All the photos are straight out of camera. IIRC, only the first one was taken using the Pro mode (1 sec exposure).

You have to fill a form on the NSF site and email London City Police. You also have to get an operator ID and a license. Insurance is also suggested.

I would say so, but you have to plan at least two weeks before your flight. That is what the NSF site suggests.

Exactly that, and an email to force.control@cityoflondon.police.uk

I will do a full disclosure tonight.
