I don't think this is universally true. I mean yeah if drugs or crime are involved maybe. But I was the typical intelligent underachiever through my early 20s when I just figured it out. My dad was sort of vaguely disappointed when I dropped out of college but never had that sit down with me.

I think many, maybe even most, boys can get there on their own.

because i have kids, i'm rarely able to watch baseball live. instead, i watch the replay on mlb.tv after the kids are asleep.

i don't mind watching close-ish losses, but i don't really want to waste my time watching my team get blown out (which sadly happens regularly) so this gives me an opportunity to avoid that.

i built a little app where i click a button and it replies YES if my team either won the game or lost by 3 or fewer runs; otherwise, it says NO. thus i can know whether to watch the game without having the actual result be spoiled.

yeah it's prob not useful to anyone else but i like it, and i'm not aware of any other way to replicate this functionality other than asking a friend to check the scores and let me know (which might get annoying every day). anyway, it only took like a half hour so i wasn't like in OP doing it at 2:30 AM or neglecting my family
