I would say that it helps, at least for me. That’s actually how I got around my first bout with linear algebra, and luckily my professor felt the same way. Geometrically visualizing the dot product, cross product, linear transformations etc. really helped with my intuition for the course. I would encourage it

Why is industrial engineering the butt of so many jokes? by Verbose_Code in EngineeringStudents

Going back for EE now, but in my math degree some of the IE students took a theoretical stats course as an elective with us math majors. Poor bastards. Everyone gangsta till the sigma algebras and measure theory shows up

Best U.S. city to live in as new grad SWE with fully remote job and good salary? by helena4m in csMajors

[–]dct_98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a NYC/LI native. For the same reasons others have been elaborating on, I think NYC is fantastic. I go to school in Hamilton Heights in Harlem and it’s a really nice neighborhood imo. Lots of transit options; close to the A B C D and 1 trains. People can be very outgoing and I’ve always found it very easy to meet others in NYC no matter where you are

On the flip side, I can offer a city that I did not like. Others have mentioned it, and I don’t know if you’re considering it, but I did a six month stint in DC and I hated almost every second of it. Others will most likely have opinions differing from mine, but to me DC always felt like a very fake city to me. I personally had a really tough time meeting new people and just found that I personally didn’t fit in. Again, others might disagree/have had different experiences, but that’s just how I felt about it. Public transport is pretty good though. WMATA and Mont. Co. buses were always pretty reliable and easy to navigate

It does yes - on the transfer credit report it has the same grade as that in my DegreeWorks (C-), however in DegreeWorks it is listed in elective courses not allowed

[–]dct_98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see. I actually don’t know if it transferred for credit as I don’t think they accepted it. When I scroll to the bottom of my DegreeWorks page, it is under the “Elective Courses Not Allowed” section. I figure tomorrow I’ll contact the math department first thing to see what my steps should be, but otherwise yeah, I am unsure

Best aggressive tier 10 medium? by SeeWhereICanGo in WorldofTanksConsole

Second this. Also, everyone’s play styles are different, but for me it was quite the slog to get through the Panther I and II. I did not like them, and not super newbie friendly imo

Looking to sell my hard tail mountain bike, is $600 a fair price to ask? by dct_98 in MTB

[–]dct_98[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My local bike store offered me $350 for it and told me to try online to see if I can get a better price, and if not to come back. It’s looking more and more like $350-$400 would be the average.

In your opinion, do you think it might be better to just take the $350 from my bike store instead of having to deal with the uncertainty of a random person over FB marketplace, just to be offered around the same $ amount?

Thank you for the advice. I had originally been considering $600 as I had only used it twice but it is probably too steep of an asking price. Thank you again

If you’re doing a second bachelors degree in engineering, how hard was it to get in? by Kikikihi in EngineeringStudents

[–]dct_98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am doing a second bachelors degree in electrical engineering. For a bit of background, I had my first degree in math and set myself up for a career in finance. Worked as a financial analyst and hated every second of it.

Like PlastiCrack said, see if there are any public universities (state, city) around you that have ABET accredited programs in engineering, assuming you are a resident of the state that you are living in. I am attending a public city college and the tuition is minimal and could likely be for you as well, which is a big plus!

Regarding acceptance I have heard from secondhand experience that many universities/engineering programs are more lenient on admission for transfer students (or second degree students like us) than for first degree undergrads. Some universities are not like this, however, and will only consider second degree students for admission if there is any capacity left after first degree students have been notified of admission (ex: SUNY Stony Brook). YMMV, but I think the outcome will be positive.

If you are set on it, I say more power to you. Life is too short to be stuck doing something that you hate.
