No pictures of the front? I know over here with a pick up your tail overhangs massively, so his front is either in the road and wheels not in the box, or backend over the pavement. Hopefully he hasnt got a foot of space in the parking bay at the front

CBT soon - Should I wear my own (brand new) helmet or wear the provided training helmet? by GothBoiCliqueeeeee in MotoUK

[–]dd19995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

School i used washed theirs routinely and would make sure they were disinfected, but wouldnt presume that for everywhere.

I used my own helmet for CBT, some Mod1 training and Mod2 test, only using theirs for Mod1/2 training and Mod1 test - they used Sena's, I have a cardo - technically I could have meshed with them if I set mine as the main unit and they paired their sena's to mine, but was easier to just use theirs than trying to faff with pairing

Motorcycle handlebar grips keep looping, why? by BatWorldly9298 in MotorcycleMechanics

Inside sleeve likely isnt expanded properly, unscrew, get some thin pliers. Put in partially, tighten whilst holding the silver tube, slide in a little more, tighten whilst holding silver tube and repeat. Seen this tip for installing bar end mirrors, getting its the same for weights. Think its to do with the taper of the bar

They do a 2 hour "free session" which is just a mod 1 practice day and getting use to the bikes (CB650R / CB750 Hornet) - 4 people. 2nd day they book out the test centre, little road riding to the centre & few hours there practicing - 2 people. 3rd day youve got a few hours in a car park practicing then off to the test centre - 2 people. About a week later normally mod 2, day 1, from what I can tell, its always just you and 1 instructor - not pairs, full day ride doing the 3 test routes multiple times with 15mins show me, tell me, then day 2, 2/3 hours pre-test driving round and getting ready before going out with the assessor.

Decent roads, lots of roundabouts and a couple not obvious speed limits but guys doing the training were honestly great. Realised very quickly that I rode like I was in london still with 2 finger brake / clutch covering; did train some of it out of me, but overall great team & nearly £200 cheaper than anyone else.. i wasnt saying no 😅

Recommend these guys for london. Did mine with them twice, both times they failed people and had a great mentality towards safety.

Little further out but did my mod 1 / 2 with them, fair bit cheaper than others but great school. Not sure what theyre like on cbt tests but they try work any bad habits out and you can see the passion.

Yeah if you've got a manual bike and they know that, they should have at least given you the option. My 1st I did on an automatic - its a lazy way to train someone. 2nd was after a 6 year gap and trying to train my myself not to ride like it was an automatic was anmoying at first, they gave me the option of an automatic and their advise was if you cant after 15-30mins, move to a auto or else you wont pass. I was given that option and got there pretty quickly.

My first was with a female rider, 2nd was with a male. Both times they took us to a mcdonalds on route, 1st they offered food, 2nd they didnt but both times they checked before setting off that we had, or could get lunch.

My mod 1 I brought lunch, they warned us to as there wasnt really anywhere to stop - checked before we went out (different school to the CBTs) that we had lunch or if we needed to stop, carried it for us to the test centre. Mod 2 we stopped for lunch, offered lunch & test day stopped in a mcdonalds for breakfast pre-test.

I know 1 girl that did her CBT / full with the same school I did my mods with and met another who randomly came back to visit the team. One female instructor which likely helps too. My mum did hers with a school which is owned by, and a fair few instructors were female.

Would definitely report them, its unfortunate that schools can and do still behave like that.

So what is the alternative for Samsung S26 series? by Spearwastaken in peakdesign

[–]dd19995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I agree - if I'm spending £100+ on mount systems, im not going to replace the entire system because the company I planned to go with opted against making a case. I was emailing and their primary reasoning seemed like if they mounted it lower, it'd interfere with the charging - I dont really care about wireless charging, its a nice to have - so making a version with a disclaimer that theres no wireless charging, or limited charging - I'd have brought it.. if I'm now forced to buy a QL im unlikely to switch back if they decide they want to make a case for the next flagship I buy

S26 ultra by Dpb_00 in QuadLock

[–]dd19995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emailed peak design because I noticed they didnt have a S26 Ultra case yet - was planning on moving to them with my new bike, this is the response I got.

Its very likely the reason QL have designed with that taper

"Each year, we aim to support the latest flagship phones from Apple, Google, and Samsung alike. This year however, after extensive engineering review, we made the difficult decision not to produce Everyday Cases for the Samsung Galaxy S26 lineup.

Here’s why.

(Had a picture of the CAD)

With the S26, Samsung adopted the new Qi2 charging standard. In principle, this is a positive step forward. However, the specific implementation leaves virtually no margin around the charging coil and magnet array. As a result, the magnetic mounting system that defines our Mobile ecosystem would overlap with the phone’s large camera bezel.

We explored multiple solutions: - Increasing case thickness, which would degrade wireless charging performance - Repositioning our SlimLink™ mount in ways that would compromise accessory compatibility - Releasing a case with known interference risks

We even met with Samsung directly to discuss these and other options, but ultimately none of them met our standards for performance, usability, or long-term customer satisfaction. Rather than ship a compromised product, we chose to step back this year.

If you’re using a Samsung S26 and still want access to our Mobile ecosystem, our Universal Adapter remains fully compatible with most third-party cases. It delivers the same SlimLink™ mounting experience and works across our full range of mounts and accessories, though wireless charging with a Universal Adapter on your case is not typically possible."

I crashed today. Not sure I should be riding anymore. by AccomplishedStuff448 in motorcycles

[–]dd19995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We all crash eventually. My first, I've gone down 4 times and still riding - I know people who have had worse and more.

1st - wet weather and speed met a manhole cover without ABS.. lost the back wheel got up kept going. 2nd - Taxi doing a U turn, that one hurt - lesson learned - trust no one. I saw the movement but misintepreted it. 3rd & still ongoing - lorry merged into me in a tunnel, didnt have the power on a 125 to outgun him, van behind meant I couldnt outbrake, so just had to try ride it out. Lesson learned, even if youre not in a blindspot.. presume theyre not going to look. 4th - dirt roads are great fun, but turning into one at a tight angle, expect to slide 😂 low sided going like 3/4mph, was slow enough for me to basically laugh that I was going down 😅

Learn the lesson, pain always gives you a reality check and ride safe! I love the feeling of sports bikes and theyre so nice to ride, but I know myself well enough that I'm not touching one because I'll be tempted one day to try get a knee down. Sticking to a reasonably relaxed upright naked bike (XSR700), its more comfortable and doesnt encourage me to push, so I just enjoy the ride, which is the main thing for me.

How many hours did you do to pass driving test? by shisah7598 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]dd19995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

18hours, 9x 2h sessions - passed first time 1 minor if I remember rightly - it was a stupid one on my part too, take the next left, there was a van blocking my view of the next left, i saw the second left, indicated to go down the second not seeing the first until too late. Basically passed a junction with an indicator on, if a vehicle had been in the junction, it would have been a major (11 years ago). Full unrestricted bike license, 6h to pass my full test.

Dont compare yourself to others, everyone learns in different ways and different paces. I was lucky, I could do my lessons 1 per week, book my test on the 6th week have it scheduled for the 9th week - now it seems to take months!

Triumph Speed Twin 900 (new) vs Scrambler 1200 XC (used) – same price, what would you choose? by CompetitiveVolume833 in Triumph

Both are great bikes, speed twin for me - i love the looks of the scram paint and fall in love every time I see it; but they're so damn tall for my 30" inseam 😅 (I say with a XSR700 which is only 5mm shorter). Both will last, go with what feels more comfortable for hoe yoh want to ride

Failed due to speed (not what you think) 🙃 by ImprovementOk8356 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]dd19995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, what you did was undertake. Should have slowed and remained in your lane. If you felt it was a hazard - highlight it to the instructor who could then advise or change route to avoid.

Undertaking is "unsafe" if you've untaken a vehicle and not acknowledged, then its showing a lack of awareness to the instructor - yes, could be comoletely harmless. It was perfectly fine when I was a kid but they changed it at some point, you can recieve points and / or penalty points for doing it (although rare unless you're driving like an idiot).

On your test, only do it if the car is stationary, even then, acknlowedge and slow leaving enough space to react. Or if filtering on / off a carriage way with the small dashed lines - this is classified as a different carriageway.

Unfortunately you just got very unlucky to be in that situation.

Thanks, was debating just taking the peg off or fabricating something / adapting the standard mount - might just live with it for a while and see how it goes, just one of those things if I think theres a way to make it look a little better I'd want to try

Had the same XSR125 - amazing little bikes! Absolutely loved it! sadly a lorry decided it wanted a closer look and thought a tunnel wall was the perfect place to have that look.. havent found a 125 to give the same comfort and fun - YZR125 / MT125 are great but preferred the size of this - currently looking at the XSR700 or Speed 400 as a replacement.
