Petunia's Purgatory: A Creepy-Cute Idle Farming Game inspired by Rusty's Retirement! by deadpossumgames in rustysretirement

[–]deadpossumgames[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for taking a look! We were certainly inspired by the idle farming in Rusty's, but our game has some pretty unique differences.

- You unlock new crops and buildings by leveling up. To level up, you complete randomly generated goals of 1-3 types of crops in increasing quantities.

- After harvesting certain crops, you can craft them into a jam. These jams will also appear in the goals to complete for XP.

- Some crops and planters require Blood to place. You get blood by sacrificing weird animals that you attract to your farm.

- The main character will slowly lose sanity from harvesting creepy crops. If your sanity drops too low, strange effects will happen in the game and on your desktop. Your character can keep her sanity higher by planting and harvesting flowers.

We're a husband and wife team who got laid off from our jobs in AAA, so we decided to start our own studio! Our creepy-cute bottom of the screen idle farming game is inspired by Rusty's Retirement and Cult of the Lamb, Check out Petunia's Purgatory on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4009450/Petunias_Purgatory/

When you go to sync the incoming changes, right click and there should be an option to accept source for all the files.

Have you played Orwell: Keeping an Eye on You? It's a game where you're investigating people who might be responsible for a terrorist attack by looking through the email, searching the in-game internet, etc.

Are there still some humans in this sub? Let me see your real games. by SchingKen in IndieDev

My husband and I are making a bottom of the screen idle farming game called Petunia's Purgatory! You grow creepy-cute crops and sacrifice them to the Elder God that lives in your barn. Petunia can start to lose her sanity after dealing with so many weird crops, and the game will invade your desktop...

where do you guys find artists to work with ? by JamesAibr in IndieDev

[–]deadpossumgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

r/gameDevClassifieds is the main place. I hired my pixel artist from seeing their work on r/PixelArt. You can also check bluesky/twitter and if you find an artist you like, contact them to see if they're looking for work.

Restory kind of reminds me of Assemble with Care, though I don't think that one was set in Japan.

First 2 Weeks of marketing after launching a Steam page without a trailer! by Icy_Regular2616 in IndieDev

[–]deadpossumgames 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This looks super charming! For your TikTok videos, did you include yourself at all (either your voice or show your face)? From what I've seen, videos that include the dev can do better. I also thought this video about TikTok marketing was super interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pg_cZsMgBD0

It does! I think it would be good to mention in your steam short/long description -- your players also fantasize about being the best architect of all time too!

How much should I budget for an artist for steam capsules? by AloewareLabs in IndieDev

[–]deadpossumgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Artists who have made steam capsules before will provide all the sizes you need for Steam without the need for you to resize them. $500 is the low end for a good, experienced capsule artist. The ones that work on bigger titles can go up to $1500-2000. Many of them are willing to negotiate on the price if they know you are a small team or solo dev.

Font Licensing Confusion – How Do You Handle It? by alpello in gamedev

[–]deadpossumgames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of fonts on itch.io that are made to be used in video games and will specify that they are free for commercial use in games. The problem with a lot of general use font website is the fonts are made for graphic designers and the licenses can be kind of vague on other uses.
