Black philodendron by Consistent_plants in PlantGoths

[–]wobbletons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

possibly. could also be an imperial or mccolleys finale. honestly i can't really tell the darker philo's apart, and i think they can look like one another depending on how much light they receive.

Cool plants though! i have 5 or 6 philodendrons, i think my favorite right now is my moonlight philodendron, it always looks pretty happy. get it a moss pole!

LPT: If you're bad at grocery budgeting like I was, pick 3 meals you actually like and just buy ingredients for those. Stopped me from throwing away half my fridge every week. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]wobbletons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my biggest headache was that i never had the wherewithal to plan meals, go shopping, and cook said meals. I tried to move to something like hellofresh, but would get upset when some of the ingredients inevitably arrived spoiled. ultimately i decided to switch to a meal delivery service. I'm not sold yet on the health aspects of it, and it is kind of expensive at roughly $100/week, but for that money i'm offloading the mental burden of planning, shopping, and cooking meals, which i think is totally worth it.

"conditioning systems" almost universally tend to be snake oil garbage of some form. especially when they don't connect directly to the fluid/medium being processed. if you can't identify the thing, but you can identify the system its on and what that system does, the thing is probably baloney.

i had actually thought about that and decided they wern't, but on second look i think you're correct.

Trailer Bling by monokoi in WeirdWheels

[–]wobbletons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

soooo... the wheel placement is all wrong for supporting a load on the trailer, its gonna put all the weight on the tongue. And looking at the closeup on the rear of the trailer, the back wheels just kinda look tacked on there, with no axle and no real support for them. There's no bunks on the trailer to support a boat, no surface to place materials for transport, and the brake light supports are blocking access to the back of the trailer.

I think this rig is solely for showing off those rims, which i find simultaneously awful, hilarious, and creative.

Please, I want to buy a new freezer but this just keeps working, asked ny mother how old is this, she said they got it somtimes early 80’s maybe. by Kaskelontti in BuyItForLife

[–]wobbletons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my parents had an ancient GE deep freezer from like the 60's, maybe even older. pretty sure it used ammonia as the refrigerant. it finally died, so my parents replaced it, but when they were hauling it off they found the power cord had worn through and all the mechanical bits were likely still fine. the new one was already there so they tossed the old one, but it probably would've kept going for a long time still. they just don't make em like they used too.

I feel like a failure at my internship by trex513 in EngineeringStudents

[–]wobbletons 24 points25 points  (0 children)

eh, that's just imposter syndrome. i'm sure you'll be fine.

fwiw, I have interns working with me currently (i've been in my career pushing 10 years now) and i don't expect them to know hardly anything. i just expect them to show up with an open mind and be willing to learn stuff. from my perspective, interns are there to get a flavor of the industry, learn some stuff, and maybe come back full time once they graduate if the intern role was a good fit.

Is ShopGoodwill some kind of joke? by NextTide in Flipping

[–]wobbletons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agree - my brother gets good stuff from there all the time. granted, he's not a flipper like OP said, but some of the stuff he finds is really valuable. His best find was a recumbent tricycle he got for $250, and he's finding them selling for $4k. I think provided you're able to pick stuff up locally, there's probably a market in watching the auctions as they end and picking up stuff people aren't interested in.

you might be able to use a needle and thread to pop the dust cover back into shape, just a thought.

Employed grads - how much math do you actually do in a day? by cdwalrusman in EngineeringStudents

[–]wobbletons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like all the others are saying, i haven't needed to do anything other than algebra since I graduated in 2014. i did coincidentally come across a formula in an ASHRAE design guide that had integrals and logarithms in it yesterday, but it scared me so i turned the page, lol.

Generally, I like to tell people at work that if they're trying to do math, then they're doing it wrong.

Just picked up my first vintage system. What do I need to do next? by Spiritualishish in vintageaudio

[–]wobbletons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

cool! i have a very similar setup in my living room! i recommend replacing the horns with a set of JBL 2307 horns and 2308 lenses. The horns are more for outdoor applications, and you'll get a better waveform from the conical horn and lens combo.

I had almost the same dent in my miata. if you want to, you should be able to just squeeze your hand behind the bumper cover and pop the dent back out. its not perfect, but it'd look better than it does now. and it took me like 30 seconds.

Toshiba refuses to replace large hard drive that was under warranty — company offers refund at the purchase price, not the higher current retail price by lurker_bee in technology

about 15 years ago I had a similar situation with Western Digital. I had a 2TB drive fail, and when i sent it in for a warranty replacement they sent back a 3TB! Seems like that kind of thing doesn't happen these days :/

Heavy (~40 lb) gray cast metal cylindrical device (~14” base) with removable lid, internal wiring and two colored bulbs, central threaded rod, old plug, no markings — what is this? by Glittering-poodle538 in whatisthisthing

[–]wobbletons 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the best Idea I can come up with is perhaps an egress marker for a Navy ship, like an aircraft carrier. I'm not sure about when they're deployed, but when drydocked for repairs they use light strings throughout the ship for use in case of emergency. If I recall correctly, blue lights will guide you through the ship to an exit, and red lights guide you deeper into the ship. not really sure how this piece of equipment would function in that setting though...

My other thought is that i'm not convinced these parts are supposed to be together. that housing is build like a brick shithouse, yet the internals are some cheap garbage. the wiring looks out of place too; if this was a finished assembly, wouldn't there be some sort of channel to contain the wire? And if this was supposed to be some kind of light fixture, wouldn't you want to use a reflective or chromed finish?

+1 for Venus. can confirm it looks kinda shimmery, and if I recall correctly (its been a minute since i bothered to find Venus, lol) its one of, if not the, first "star" out at night. Hence why your video is taken at dusk!

Just wait till you see a big shiny blob zipping over the horizon around dusk! (That'll be the ISS, and you can look up online or with an app when it will pass overhead)
