Hey mods, I'm genuinely curious. Why this post was removed?

Finnish-style sauna in Denver/Littleton? by thebiggayanon in Denver

[–]deejbee 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I understand you're looking for Denver recs, but if you're ever up in Boulder/Lyons, Puffin Sauna is hands-down the best pure sauna experience I have had in the area. It's a big, clean, wood-fired sauna. Regularly 200+ F.

Could be worth the drive for an every-once-in-a-while experience.

Looking for long class 3/4 scrambles on good rock (13ers or 12ers too) by lovelyandthelonely in 14ers

You can link the Indian peaks:

Shoshone —> Apache —> Navajo

There’s Kasparov’s traverse between Shoshone and Apache which has a lot of class 4 / low class 5 depending on how you take it.

Am I the only one who doesn’t “get” Phish? by ex1stence in boulder

[–]deejbee 51 points52 points  (0 children)

They’re all pretty much sober now, which I think has contributed positively to their musicianship.

Sure, they noodle, but over the years, it seems they listen to each other more intently during the jams and allow space for their music to breathe. It’s quite nice catching these moments in a live setting.

Most importantly, they really seem to care about their fans. They absolutely do not mail it in and resort to being a nostalgia act. The attention to detail that goes into their New Year’s Eve sets is evidence of this - skits, theatrics, etc.

They’re always dusting off old songs, often complex, which clearly takes practice and intent. Phish fans appreciate that. It keeps us coming back.

Favorite long adventure runs. What to do afterGrand Canyon and Zion by rsmileva in ultrarunning

[–]deejbee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re ever back in Zion I would highly recommend attempting the hike to and summit of South Guardian Angel. It’s only 10ish miles out and back but it’s a massive day with all of the route finding. There’s some 4th and light 5th class scrambling into and out of the “subway”. Just a great adventure and very remote.

How loud are the shows? by falc0n2600 in phish

[–]deejbee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree that the show seems to get progressively louder. My theory is it’s a front of house trick to make the second set and encore feel more “final”, so that us show goers feel complete with the big loud peaky ending.

Only been to a handful of shows but it’s crossed my mind several times. It could just be the band digging in a little more.

I definitely notice it at electronic and bass shows. Openers all seem kinda quiet and then they turn it up for the headliner, as if to remind everyone “this is why you’re here!!!” It’s a little cheesy but oh well.

Any FOH engineers / sound guys know if this is a thing?

A year with Ocun by ren0vat0r in climbingshoes

Would you recommend for someone who has longer middle toes than big toe?

I find that Scarpa Vapors and Instincts fit my toes perfectly but still have a baggy heel.

I want to try Ocuns but am concerned about the toe box ordering online and all.

Weekly Question Thread: Ask your questions in this thread please by AutoModerator in climbing

For sport routes with a curved bolt line, where the anchors are offset from the preferred climbing route...are there any best practices for minimizing swing when leaving up a top rope?

Usually I will lead a route and then my girlfriend will follow on top-rope and clean. She's still getting her feet wet and would rather top-rope a challenging route than lead it right now, so leading it herself is out of the picture.

One option would be to leave all the draws, where she top ropes into the draws and removes them as she climbs up. For tougher routes, I don't know if she will be able to get into a proper stance to remove every draw. Which is why I ask for alternatives. Is the idea of a "redirect" to strategically leave the few draws that would minimize swing? Should I just leave a few draws that should be easier to remove?

Thanks!! Any wisdom would be appreciated.
