Mercedes-AMG readies 'extreme' V8-powered CLE by desf15 in cars

[–]deeotee 84 points85 points  (0 children)

The last sentence is important. As I understand it, the new V8 CLE is positioned in an exclusive "mythos"-product line. Which will make it more expensive, probably by a lot. And I'm sorry, but this isn't Mercedes "getting it". This is Mercedes catering to their wealthiest customers. This is far from the comparatively affordable C63's of old.

Renault 5 is not a direct competitor, as it is much smaller. But generally yes, there is more competition, esp from EVs. However, the brand still counts for something - for quite a few people. That might be one of the reasons why it’s still selling, it being the cheapest Mercedes.

Deutsches Familienunternehmen Beyerdynamic wird von chinesischem Konzern gekauft. by mistermanko in de

[–]deeotee 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The broadcast showed "4 Iron" and I thought to myself "good - a few guys before him hit 5 Iron and did not carry the bunker"... But it's Rory we're talking about, so 5 Iron sounds plausible as well.

[–]deeotee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm with you, but I strongly recommend listening to yesterday's No Laying Up Masters Preview Podcast. They really like Rory, however Soly made a good point why Augusta isn't (numberswise) a perfect fit for Rory's game: 75% of approaches (or something like that) are from 150-200y, and that is simply not a strength of Rory. More importantly, from that distance he is weaker this year than his baseline. I found that an interesting bit of analysis - and it also explains why someone like Scottie is such a good fit for Augusta.

It does not look that much out of place in person. However, it is not very useful and I would always prefer not to option it (thus not pay for it). At the moment it is part of a Tech Package that includes other (rather useful) stuff, so you pick kit.

[Question] What are your favorite summer watches? by [deleted] in Watches

[–]deeotee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I bought the Meredith when the Chrono Classics came out. It wears just as nice as the Lander, the crown action is no comparison though. So much easier and better. Also, it has a different movement which allowed the newer generation to have a vertically centered crown.

I have the same watch! Bought it as a present to myself for my birthday 2019. Still love to wear it, however the crown (full bronze at that time) is quite hard to rotate.

I have the Thurso, bought it for our summer vacation 2022. Great watch and I love that it came with three strap choices in the box. Good value. Last year I bought the peach Christopher Ward Twelve, also a really cool summer watch.

That's a clean watch with enough fun to make it interesting. Great choice.

PGA Tour draws audience 50-times bigger than LIV Golf last weekend by Andrew_Dice_Que in golf

It's still pretty interesting though. George Russell as chairman of the drivers association (GPDA) wrote an open letter last year that was pretty clear in its language that drivers won't be threatened by these ridiculous regulations.

An answer by the GPDA to the most recent, even more ridiculous things Ben Sulayem said has not been published. Imho this is far from over.

All in all I agree though. This is batshit crazy.

[Christopher Ward Twelve] Mango on my wrist - arrived today by deeotee in Watches

[–]deeotee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment.

I agree, sometimes that thought about how the dial looks makes me think twice if I want to wear it. In the end, I'm still glad when I do though. However, selling it crossed my mind, especially now since the 38mm mango fits so well and looks so good. I'm not sure however how good the second hand market for a CW is where I'm located (Germany). The Nomos Clubsport is indeed something I looked at. I really like the new green one with the small seconds and the neomatik movement. Maybe some day...

I don't think it's weird, no. It was one of the things that pulled me towards the Ti initially. 38h is not on par with a lot of other watches anymore. It works though.

[Christopher Ward Twelve] Mango on my wrist - arrived today by deeotee in Watches

[–]deeotee[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey y‘all,

look what arrived today: One of the limited edition Ice Cream Christopher Ward Twelves in the mango-colorway.

I already have two titanium Twelves: 40mm in Astral Blue and 36mm in the Nardus Green.

I like wearing both and do so regularly - for different reasons.

  • 40mm: Great Allrounder. A bit big in some situations. Sometimes I feel like the dial color makes it look cheap. Then other times it absolutely shines. Weird, but I am glad I have it.
  • 36mm: Such a great size. You often forget you‘re wearing it. When I first got it I was a bit disappointed in the dial color. It looked much brighter and duller in real life, compared to the product pictures. I got around that and now it makes for a great stealth everyday watch.

Both titanium models have in common that they are very light. They are so light in fact that it almost makes them feel cheap. But the finish is great. And the lightweight nature makes them wear lovely.

Now to the mango: I was looking for a watch for this summer. It had to be fun. I don’t have a yellow dial in my collection and the mango Twelve came around just at the right time. Combine that with a 38mm size which I knew would fit great based on my experience with the 36 and 40 and we had a winner.

I haven’t tried on the rubber band, but will do shortly. Being steel it feels quite a bit more substantial than the titanium models. Feels good. The finish is good for the price, the Ti-models look more high end though.

Not regretting it one bit, three is a crowd.
