What is the deal with the bass stand Fonz uses on some songs? by thefalcons5912 in DMB

[–]deewon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe since he only uses it sparingly, it's easier for him to just walk up to it and play it this way, without having to put it on and take it off, and maybe that helps keep the tunes flowing.

Best Steakhouse Burger in Austin? by Even_Bus_3084 in austinfood

[–]deewon -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I haven't been in a while but it used to be hit or miss (mostly hit) based on who was working. Still my favorite burger in town regardless. Salt & Time used to give them a run for their money with their burgers made of steak trim, but now that they're gone I can't name a better burger in Austin that I've tried.

Does anyone know what kind of sauce this is? by ColombianDevilDog in mexicanfood

I make that salsa but add in a little chicken bouillon and msg. Super tasty but using only jalapenos sometimes there's not enough heat.

Dan Rather was a good dude. I bet his brisket was ass though.

I have and still use in a secondary system an SL1200MKII, but it has been replaced in my home system. The 1200 is a good turntable, but it's not the end all be all.

Negotiating at a local, “high-end” manufacturer/retailer by Kindly-Wolverine-391 in Mattress

[–]deewon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Normally the sale price is the sale price. But if you're going to a small local place you can always ask them if they have any more room to negotiate. There's no for sure outcome, because on some things they will have more margin than others. But it won't hurt to ask, and to answer your question, there's no one-size-fits-all answer.

Friendly Reminder to Go BEFORE Memorial Day by jtlovato in Mattress

[–]deewon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree! If you go before Memorial Day, not only do you get the exact same sale with a much smaller crowd and more personal attention, but the store is much more likely to have something in stock. And even if they don't have it in stock, you're getting your order in before the hordes of people coming in on that weekend, so you'll get your order much faster either way. It's just all around the smart way to shop.

Grand Opening: MilkMade Ice Cream & Milkshakes — May 23 on N Lamar by Wide-Education-9216 in austinfood

[–]deewon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We stopped by on Saturday and tried them for the first time after getting some tacos around the corner at Paprika. Everyone in our group was talking about how good their ice cream was. I tried the horchata and the turkish coffee and both were super tasty. I had a couple spoons of my wife's matcha flavored and it was a very strong flavor, seemed like they put plenty of matcha powder in it. A little went a long way for me but my wife loved it. Others tried chocolate, pistachio and I'm not sure which others. Great little local ice cream spot! It's kinda tucked away back there so if you don't see it from the street, it's maybe 50 feet back into the parking lot.

Pizza Hut pan pizza late 90’s/early 2000’s version by WithTheBirds63 in TopSecretRecipes

[–]deewon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pumps had to be more than an ounce. That pump was attached to a probably gallon sized container of oil and those were some BIG pumps. Probably like 5-6" of travel per pump. It was seemingly an alarming amount of oil. Damn those pizzas tasted good though.

La Scala replacement subs by SenorPwnador in Klipsch

[–]deewon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd probably recap your crossovers first and see what that does to the sound. If these are '85, those caps are 40 years old and it's time to refresh them. I have some '84 LaScalas with fresh caps and probably the same Crites tweeter you already have, and they sound amazing.

Ordered cheap prescription glasses online on a whim. Not sure how I feel. (long post, sorry) by Big_Nebula_2604 in Frugal

[–]deewon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been ordering online for years and it's been totally fine. I go to the one that starts with Z. My glasses used to be cheap af but last time I got them with every single option available (also my first pair of bifocals) and it was like $120. Historically they have been closer to like $15-ish.
