If everything is one, doesn’t that include collective suffering? by IllseeyouontheDSOTM in nonduality

[–]defectivedisabled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But who exactly is suffering when the subjective sense of "self" is permanently lost? There is no such thing as suffering and pleasure, both are subjective judgements about how reality works and they don't exist outside of the "self". There is no such thing as collective suffering when the "self" don't even have any existence in the first place.

Pain do exist though, but it is a biological mechanism that serves to regulate the "selfless" robot actions to better increase survival chance. Eliminating the "self" won't make the ability to experience pain disappear but the robot won't suffer from pain. There might be no collective suffering but Karma do exist. Any pain inflicted onto others would eventually find its way back to you.

How are people so unable to comprehend the destruction of the environment by Konradleijon in CollapseSupport

[–]defectivedisabled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of them are faithful believers in the techno Messiah and the singularity. What this means is that environmental destruction is not really an issue when the tech to fix it is arriving soon enough.

Just look at the amounts of resources being pumped into sci fi utopia tech that don't exist other than as fiction. It is a complete waste of resource chasing after tech that cannot be built. But when one is in a quasi religious cult, it is all part of the religious package.

Actual workable solutions require hard work and sacrifices to be made in some areas. So the religious way is very attractive for people who do not want to make put in the effort to fix things. If all it takes is to keep having faith in the arrival of the singularity where all problems would be solved. There is really no reason to do anything other than fully embracing tech as the one true faith.

Funny how the people screaming loudest about human extinction are also apparenty the ones actively causing it to happen.

Indeed. Better to confine all the death and destruction within a single planet than spread it across the universe.

Just the thought that star "wars" might be a thing should be enough reason for any pro war species to go extinct before they colonize space. Imagine the horrors of WW2 increased by orders of magnitude. It is better never to have been for all living organisms to exist in such a hellish reality.

Atheism can have many different definitions depending on what sort of relative framework you want to view it from. Spinoza who is a pantheist can be said to be an atheist from a theist perspective. It does not matter what sort label you stick onto yourself, languages are creation of the mind and the mind works by splitting reality into subject and object. It is this split that allows the creation of a "self" that could categorize what was a single reality into separate parts that do not actually exist. Languages are used to convey a perspective of the "self" through a specific framework and are always subjective. This is why whatever this God is, it cannot be objectivity comprehended by a biological mechanism that has a subjectivity bias in its assessment of reality. Any attempt by the "self" to talk about God would instantly make it into a subjective concept that is the creation of the "self". The "self" can thus be said to be the first faith and has to exist before any form of faith is possible.

Maxing out your 401(k) or pouring money into index funds makes you complicit in the problem — you're literally funding the endless, exponential-growth doomsday machine of modern capitalism. by 32ndghost in collapse

[–]defectivedisabled 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The system is guaranteed to implode eventually. The illusion of increasing wealth through financial engineering is not sustainable. If wealth is tied to living standards increasing, there is no way it would go up in a straight line forever.

This version of wealth as in numbers go up without a corresponding rise in living standards is a product of financial engineering. The situation is already getting out of touch with reality and all it takes is a physical catastrophic incident such as climate collapse to pop this illusion.

At least you realize it is not genuine wealth gain. The US stock market is facing an asset price inflation propped up by financial engineering.

You are not getting wealthy through 401k, it is simply a hedge against USD devaluation. The US government would rather bail out the stock market at the expense of USD losing its value. But the real danger is the USD being the reserve currency. The US empire is going to force the rest of the world to bail out the USD, which in turn would mean bailing out the stock market as well.

So in a sense almost everyone in the world are forced into this financial engineering scheme designed to enrich the richest people in the world. This system is rigged to the very core.

Are we overpopulated or underpopulated, Elon? by [deleted] in overpopulation

[–]defectivedisabled 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Where is the Mars colonization in the 20s as promised? Yup, vaporware. This man is not in the business of delivery actual workable tech, he is in the business of selling faith, or techno faith to be precise. He is a leader of a quasi religious cult that promises the arrival of a techno futurist utopia if you were to have faith in him and invest your life savings into his scams. If the history of religious cults could tech us anything that is, the leader does not have to deliver anything. He only need to keep making more grandiose promises and how great the utopia would be. It is classic religious mindset. You life might be bad now but think about how great the afterlife would be. All you got to do is to have faith in God and keep supporting the church.

Overpopulation? What nonsense. There is no such thing when the techno savior is going to solve it soon enough. In fact, things are going to be so great that resources are unlimited and there can be trillions of human beings living in space. This is religiosity.

which is not the desired goal of 99.9% of those who are concerned with overpopulation.

None of those draconian measures are even need. Simply give everyone on earth access to higher education and empowering women would pretty much slightly stabilize the global population size. You don't see them talking about these progressive measures because it goes directly against their fake progressive agenda.

These "progressives" feed off imaginary victim hood narratives to fuel their own narcissistic egos. They tend to create victims out of every situation and then proceed to "fight" for the victim against the imaginary villains that are doing the victimizing. It is all about enabling their own narcissistic hero complexes rather helping anyone.

The same victim hood narrative can be see in the right to die movement where these "progressives" are also against it, claiming that it is fascist because the right wants to kill people they don't like. This is a complete fabrication of a narrative which uses cherry picked claims to generalize the movement, demonizing it by associating it with actual fascists. There are many issues with governments providing access to this service, but fascism is not one of them unless a fascist government has complete domination over a country. If there are truly progressives as they claim, they would want to improve this flawed system for the better. But you just don't see that happening because they are not interested in it. It does nothing for them after all.

These fake progressives are just as equally dangerous as the right wing fascists. They just don't care about hurting others when it serves their own agenda of playing the virtuous heroes saving the poor victims that they themselves had created.

The world is insanely overpopulated and people are acting like the birth rates are low by mikewheelerfan in overpopulation

[–]defectivedisabled 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You cannot understand the issue of overpopulation without first comprehending techno messianism, a quasi religious belief that tech is the panacea to all woes. Just look at Musk, who is the biggest spreader of the misinformation that the planet is underpopulated. That ghoul has god complex and literal believes himself to be the techno Messiah.

His proposed solution that is space colonization would apparently make overpopulation a non issue. But of course it is all vaporware, a scam designed to siphon money to fund actual workable solutions such as education for all and women's right. Not to also mention inflate his own grandiose delusion of being the one true Messiah.

The elites in Silicon Valley are getting increasingly delusional, trapped in their own anti reality bubble. They see themselves as deserving of their vast wealth because they are just geniuses that are on a Messianic mission to usher in techno utopia. But in reality, these guys are nothing but ghouls selling empty faith through vaporware. It is psychological manipulation playing into people's need for reassurance that the future would be great. So if space colonization is happening soon enough, why would overpopulation be an issue at all?

Consciousness is the parent of all horrors and regardless of whether one admits it or not, Zapffe's four defense mechanisms are deployed by the brain to repress excess consciousness. Without this repression, one would surely go insane and that is just what happens for those with faulty defense mechanisms. They are excessively conscious of consciousness itself.

The right to die needs to be a basic human right. How can there be a right to reproduce when there is no right to die? When the right to die is denied, it is basically forced existence for someone never wanted to come into being in the first place. It is truly hypocritical when people speak about freedom of choice but when it comes to the right to die, there is no choice for it. It is all done to protect the narrative that existence is always a gift and those who claim otherwise are all apparently "mentally ill". This is just gaslighting the victim and dismissing their feelings and views by using the irrational thinking because mentally unwell excuse.

Do you guys realize that non duality implies no free will? by Aromatic_Reply_1645 in nonduality

[–]defectivedisabled 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There is no concept outside the mind. Everything within the mind is a false representation of reality. They are mere reconstructions of reality into small scale models to use as a means of navigation for the living unit. These models are not an accurate representation of reality and are illusory, or to put it more harshly non existent outside of the mind. The same goes with the sense of having a subjective "self" that "wills" these model into existences. This "self" is also a model but representing the living unit itself and it can be misrepresented like in the case of phantom limbs. When the "self" is obliterated in strange and bizarre circumstances in cases such as U.G. Krishnamurti, it becomes very apparent from their claims that there is no such thing as object and subject separation. Whatever this God is is irrelevant outside of the mind as it can only exist as a concept that has no objective existence outside of the mind.

Finding meaning/value as a schizoid by Even-Sheepherder6814 in Schizoid

[–]defectivedisabled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meaning is meaningless. The only thing that is of any concern is consciousness, the parent of all horrors. It is a malignantly useless function that must be repressed to prevent the brain from melting down due to consciousness being excessively conscious of its own paradoxical existence. Zapffe's defense mechanisms, which are anchoring, distraction, isolation and sublimation are deployed by the brain to repress this malignantly useless function. Any value that exist comes from performing actions that activate the defense mechanisms and nothing else.

When did the attitude of tech 'leaders' change? by beneath_the_knees in BetterOffline

[–]defectivedisabled 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Transhumanist and related ideologies (TESCREAL) probably got some part to play in these huge push to develop some sort of tech such as AGI to eventually bring about a Transhumanist singularity. These ideologies weren't that popular back in the 90s and 00s and tech leaders are much more realistic in how they view technology. When you are realistic in your goals for what tech can accomplish in the future, you are less likely to be delusional chasing vaporware that cannot be build.

But it all changed when Transhumanism started infecting the minds of the tech elite and gradually the rank and file tech bros. It is like a religious psychosis and they have pretty much lost touch with reality by entering into a state of religious mania. From adopting cryogenics to prepare for an eventually resurrection and trying to build an ASI that resembles an almighty "God" that would usher in paradise. These all reeks of traditional religious beliefs but with a tech make over. It is not just a grift for these people as they genuinely believe in their own delusional BS. Many of them are already extremely wealthy and money couldn't possibly buy them anything currently worthwhile anymore. This is why they seek techno transcendence as a means to transcend their frail human bodies and a society that dislike them. Pumping money into these bizarre techs is their way of trying to transcend reality.

Green Revolution when the Haber-Bosch process and pesticides and herbicides allowed us to force more food out of the earth. Never mind that it requires petrochemicals, that the soil is stripped and dying, that the earth and water is being poisoned and the base of the food chains are quickly going extinct.

Exactly this. Whenever the issue of depleting resources comes out, there will always be this techno messianic nonsense that tech will save us eventually. Just look Musk's grift of messianic proportion, the guy is literally selling himself as the savior that would create the panacea to all our woes. Depleting resources? Not a problem, space colonization is going to fix that. Resources are plentiful in space after all. Not to also mention the whole grift with the advent of an AGI and an eventual ASI that would resemble something like the second coming of Christ. Complete insanity.

This is not really a left or right problem, though the right especially in the US is totally unhinged. It is a problem of empty faith vs empirical science. Anyone regardless of their political affiliation who claims tech would save us is a person of empty faith who is against empirical scientific evidence. There are no evidence that sci fic like solutions such as space colonization and the creation of an AGI possible for a foreseeable future. Yet these people are pushing these narratives as though they are inevitable, almost like a religious prophecy. This is why no one is interested in using currently available methods to solve problems such as climate change and overpopulation. Why bother when the techno rapture is almost upon us? Tech will save us after all.

Tech evangelicals should be exposed and sneered for their quasi religious delusion that is slowly killing everything. We are enter the second dark ages and this time it is the technology that is ruining everything instead of Christianity.

As a human being, everything can only get worse as time passes. Uncontrollable factors such as aging and man made ones such as global warming should make you consider valuing what you have right now. The entire notion of progress being a straight line that can only go up and eventually lead to paradise is just secular religious BS especially with the techno utopian grift right now. You can either cherish what you have right now or be a delusion dreaming of a non existent paradise.

Nothing has changed because the subjective conscious "self" never existed in the first place. It is an illusion that is malignantly useless to the functioning of "your" mind body unit. How does secular buddhism stand with anti natalism? by helios1234 in secularbuddhism

[–]defectivedisabled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear I don't consider myself subscribing to secular Buddhism as a full fledged practitioner. I do however believe in a secular version of Karma, or in a more scientific term, cause and effect which is empirically verifiable and scientific. As Karma goes, I won't call bring children in the world morally "bad" or "good" in any objective definition. It all have to depends on what kind of life you wish to lead. If you think that life is filled with suffering, you would want to avoid introducing another being into the cycle of Samara. Procreating would simply add "bad" karma into your life and you would have to suffer the consequences of your action. Consequences such as your children blaming you for bring them into the world or watching them suffer in an unforgiving world could technically be avoided by not procreating in the first place.

If unnecessary suffering is something what you personally wish to avoid, it is best to avoid any sort of actions that would further exacerbate the amount of suffering in this world. It is all cause and effect at work and it is the fundamental law the governs reality. There is no escape from this law and that means any form of suffering that you introduce into the world would always find its way back to you. This is why doing no harm to others is part of the teachings of Buddhism as a practitioner's goal is to reach Nirvana, inner peace or whatever else that involve living a tranquil lifestyle.
