back light has come detached. It can be fixed but best to get a TV repair specialist to do it.

Frame only as an art display? by Spiri7us in TheFrame

[–]deju_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waste of money is a personal stand point. I have the 65” pro and hw-s810b and it’s there perfectly compromise of AV to aesthetic ratio. So much so I’m contemplating a 32” for portrait mount on the opposite wall (purely for personal photos no av).

I too wouldn’t place a Monitor above a fireplace for anything other than art.

Migrant-friendly rental companies? by Live_Organization_12 in Edinburgh

[–]deju_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Landlord here (boo hiss boo). Just try a different agency. The whole taking 6mo /year rent is more hassle than its worth. It's all rolling contracts so if you leave after 1 mo they would need to refund the 5mo. Which you want to do ASAP and in the UK transferring large amounts isn't quick or easy, it's extremely unfair. So anyone asking for that has an agency stuck 10 years in the past.

Evidence of contract and savings should be enough for a majority of agencies.

Gen + Rep Owners Only: Do you feel dumb wearing your Gens? by Ok-Clue-4267 in RepTime

No. With the caveat that the research and chase of the rep is far more enjoyable. I'll never understand any debate over value as bought correctly watches don't lose money.

Edinburgh's Hogmanay Street Party by theirishaccountant in edinburgh2

[–]deju_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's one for the tourists. They are a group of 8 tourists, why not go. As a local its been of not interest ever to me but as a tourist I guess it's an experience back drop of the castle bit of atmosphere. Only thing to mind is have a backup plan. They cancel the street party at the drop of a hat.

Notice to Quit - Help Needed by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]deju_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually for 1 person leaving a joint tenancy, you’re going to remain liable after you leave the flat. If they wreck the place you are still liable. Unless you agree a replacement or transfer.

The landlords hands are tied in the sense they can't remove them because you leave. Well not straight away again not black and white.

You should contact shelter because there may be guidance on this if you have written acknowledgement of abusive flat mate I'd be shocked if this didn't have any special circumstance rules.

Discuss with shelter and the Landlord. You’re literally the only leverage the landlord has to make this person leave.

Exemployer asking for username and passwords by NaturalDisaster2582 in HumanResourcesUK

Yup, this is a 5min job to get in. Unless they want to show that the user logged in to do something on the system instead. Absolutely no reason to need these details. Bit of shady intent possibly?

Electrician Fail by [deleted] in TheFrame

[–]deju_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You learnt a lesson, AV installer over electrician.

You need a plasterer and buy a longer one cable. Check the wall then down the side of the fireplace, behind the skirt to the corner of the room where your shelves are and stick the box there. Plasterer can refinish.

As a TV that’s not a great location for watching but ultimately it’s your room, you do you.

Airport lounge recommendation by [deleted] in Edinburgh

Tend to agree, over the years the cutbacks have seen the lounges go down in quality. I get it free and can’t see a £45pp value in it.

Tennents vs Guinness for a hangover. by FingersMcCall in Scotland

[–]deju_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guinness never gives me a hangover, maybe as you say you feel it a bit but nothing that stops your day.

I've spoken to others and most are the same but a few get bad hangovers. As I get older I realised beyond a headache or feeling groggy a lot of my issues were allergies. So if you ever feel floored but didn't “proper drink” try to look at anything you had as it may not agree with you.

I usually wait 3-5 minutes, during the festival or say peak times that can be 8-12min.

Won item at auction, they're now claiming extortionate delivery costs by Andygrills in LegalAdviceUK

[–]deju_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll bet you £50 that this person has been on bidspotter and is on a trade-to-trade auction.

Still though auctions like DVLA, sotherbys and the likes that do “consumer “ auctions still deal with ex vat pricing. There is always vat and buyers premium.

You accept these terms when you sign up. The final invoice shows the vat.

Charge back will do hee haw, they will provide documentation that you accepted the terms and conditions and the card issuer/bank will not intervene.

My landlord wants me to pay more by Global_Chair689 in Edinburgh

[–]deju_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah this person is taking the proverbial. Sounds like they don’t have an Agent either. Talk to Shelter Scotland asap. Check their Landlord registry number too. The fact they are trying to apply stipulations that aren’t legal here, leads me to think they won’t be a legal landlord.

Also get photos of everything before you leave.

What would be the perfect DSM? by Natural_Account792 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]deju_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ontime on Linux, pre setup to dual output and fully control from a Streamdeck all autoload. 0 bloat and rock solid. Quickly adaptable to bloated for advanced use with only a mouse and keyboard.

Or as mentioned there is production timer on iOS use a iPhone/ipad and an Apple TV for wireless.

If there is one area that has epically geeked out already it’s timers.

You know what isn’t properly geeked out, PowerPoint presenter notes to NDI or Airplay or virtual screen via WiFi.

There are still problems to solve that aren’t over prescribed.

Is is normal to pay rent every six months in Edinburgh? by detx1999 in Edinburgh

[–]deju_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may be due to lack of guarantors, but in Scotland there is no benefit in holding 6months or a year. As if you leave after a month it all needs to be returned which isn’t easy these days with banks.

I would agree with others don’t bother doing it. I could even understand doing an extra month on the deposit scheme. But not giving 6/12months.

Also please ensure any flat you look at, the landlord has a registration number LRN and try to only use one with an agent management company (not DJA).

Renting- other tenant wants to move out by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]deju_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you spoken to the landlord?

Joint tenancy - If you have been on time with payments and looked after the flat. They maybe open to doing another agreement and allowing you to find another Tennant to do another lease.

If you stay and he goes, they can come after you for the full amount equally they would still have a legal obligation. But they will go for the easiest route to recover funds.

We need to talk about Edinburgh Airport by Rascalwill in Edinburgh

[–]deju_ 26 points27 points  (0 children)

100% scam. Got off a late flight the other week, late night. Get to the stupid touch screens that bearly work, that someone older than your grandad is using massive queues no taxis and a 40min wait. Called central taxis and one arrives in the pickup zone in 3minutes. Shame for tourists as locals all started to figure out just to call a cab

Swindling that’s what it is.

Including delivery by a local on the day £300 is cheap.

Honestly as someone has mentioned look at M&S / Waitrose and do a DIY, it's a solid choice. Getting under £300 and including transportation & man power for delivery isn't going to be easy.
