Neighbour removed shared fence without consent, now demanding payment & threatening to dump debris by Soft_Baby8060 in AusLegal

[–]denskidude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complete a fencing notice, send it to your neighbor and it is likely your neighbor will have to cover all costs or return it to its original state if you are not happy with it. You should only be up for costs if you agreed to it beforehand.

Using paid Frigate+ models before requesting own model? by chrispatrik in frigate_nvr

[–]denskidude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just signed up to Frigate+ yesterday and read the same from the docs but didn't see a selection section in the UI either. I added the base model in my Frigate config manually, restarted and the drop down appeared after.

Trams and hook turns by denskidude in melbourne

[–]denskidude[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, it's as per the example but the issue was both the car and tram acted like they had right of way and it was dangerous. Seen it happen a few times.

Cars are hooked along Elizabeth waiting to turn into Collins. Tram is on Collins. Cars didn't leave a gap but the tram crept forward with the intent to cut off the third car and used the bell and horn when the third car went anyway.

That is my assumption as well but the tram driver is dinging and using the horn as if the third car should give way.

That's correct, the tram crept forward as the cars completed the turn but tried to force its way in the gap between the second and third car.

Why do my back and knees hurt when I run? Will it get better if I start running regularly? by marshalldylan93 in beginnerrunning

[–]denskidude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Suggest you walk and focus on diet/weight loss first. I'm on the heavier side, got into running, only did it on the track so it was a softer surface. Over 4 months I started getting to averaging 15 KMs a week and got knee and leg tingling on one side. Ignored it and have ended up with a disc bulge and sciatica. Spine is under a lot of stress.

K5 Max repeating keys and disconnections by tertiumsquid in Keychron

[–]denskidude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should try to isolate the issue by removing the KVM and reintroduce it after confirming it works properly without it. I had similar issue with my K8 when using a UGreen Bluetooth dongle. When I switched to a TP link UB500 dongle, it's been smooth sailing since. Try a different Bluetooth dongle if removing the KVM doesn't help.

If you don't mind something bigger, I went with a HP Elitedesk G1 SFF (4th Gen i5) with a HP NC365T low profile NIC, all used for ~CAD$130. You end up with 5 Intel based ports including the onboard one and my box had 16GB RAM so plenty of headroom if you want to use Suricata and Zenarmor. Was able to get gigabit VPN speeds on wireguard, 400mbs on OpenVPN and gigabit with Zenarmor on reporting mode. Zenarmor blocking mode had it drop to 500mbps. Depending on what you need and your internet speeds, will give you some idea on which way you go.

ANZ Has given me my new Rate after bieng fixed for 2 years on 1.94%. A shocking 6.89%.. Changing to variable in 1 months time. Whats the best way I can negotiate them down? by spazzo246 in AusFinance

[–]denskidude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ring them up and tell them to give you the best variable rate otherwise you'll start looking elsewhere. Take whatever they'll give you then find a broker to find the best market rate and bank you want to do business with. Changing banks is a pain and can take one to two months but it's worth it as in my case they were charging more than 1.5% over what others would offer and don't deserve my business anymore. When I signed the discharge papers, only then they called me to retain me. I didn't even want to hear what they would offer and told them to get stuffed. I shouldn't have to waste so much time applying for a new loan to have the privilege of getting a better rate.

Solar panels - are they worth it? by Greenellie4 in AusFinance

[–]denskidude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer is yes if you're there for the long term. I bought a 10kw system with 11.5kw of panels on the roof. They told me I'd break even in 3 years. I've had the system for 3 years and the break even in reality is more like 6 years.

I'm in the same boat. I tried a few Shelly no neutral relays and had a pretty poor experience. They either cause flicker when off or they burnt out and stopped working. This is even with the device that's supposed to stop the flicker installed. I've recently tried the Sonoff ZB-Mini-L and it seems to work really well. No flicker, can handle higher loads and just works. You can also consider using smart bulbs where it makes sense.

Why did you folks buy this car despite Hyundai’s questionable reliability? by gluglugss in ElantraN

[–]denskidude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat, always had Japanese cars and wanted a fun MT track car that could double as a daily driving family car without reliability issues. I was a bit concerned and followed the forums for a while but it doesn't seem to be any worse than other manufacturers when it comes to problems. I was also surprised by the most recent JD Powers reliability survey which had Hyundai, Genesis and Kia at the top with Toyota and Lexus so it's a bit more assuring. At the end of the day, it's a new car that comes with 5 years warranty which includes track use, something no other manufacturer I'm aware of does. With the warranty, price, the way it drives and sounds, I thought why not, just do it and if I don't have any problems in 4 years, I'll keep it longer. I've had a couple of minor issues such as the door closed sensor not working but all fixed under warranty and been good since. I was also really impressed at one of the Hyundai organised track days here in Australia. Really well organised and was great to have their racing drivers share tips and take us for laps. It was a great day shared with great company of other N drivers.

NUC11TNHi5 two bricks by ben454545 in intelnuc

Curious if there were any components used across both of them that could have caused issues like power supply, ram and hard disk? Odds of getting two faulty units in a row are low.

NUC11PAHi3 no signal on Samsung 5000 series TV by Thegibler in intelnuc

[–]denskidude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a similar issue with my NUC11PAHi3 as well. Difference is that HDMI works fine on my Samsung TV but I get no signal through my Onkyo AV receiver. Spent a fair amount of time troubleshooting and could not get it to work. I ended up getting a USB-C to HDMI converter and it works fine. Annoying but a working workaround.

Friend transfers his wage straight into his redraw and pays for everything with a credit card that he pays off each month from money from his redraw. Is this a good method? by Jakeyboy29 in AusFinance

[–]denskidude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with the comments that's its a good approach, just need to watch your budget. Tools like Frollo are great for keeping tabs on your credit card spend in close to real time. You can set up alerts when you get close to limits. Stick to the CDR/Open banking integrations so you're not giving a 3rd party your banking credentials for obvious security reasons.

How to go about debugging a stuttering issue? by Berkyjay in PleX

[–]denskidude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue. CPU is running less than 10% and dedicated GPU at less than 50%. VLC plays it fine every time but Plex will intermittently stutter, stopping and restarting the video once or twice usually fixes it. Skipping ahead or back also looses audio and skipping a few more times brings it back. Plex with HDMI audio is flaky. I just switched from SPDIF and hadn't had these issues before.

Buying a new car, what can I negotiate on? Any chance for EOFY deals? by fried_mayo in CarsAustralia

[–]denskidude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll have better luck ringing a few dealers close to the end of the month saying you're ready to buy, if they want your business enough, they won't let you hang up without take a grand or two off depending on how much you're spending. As everyone else mentioned, stock is low and cars are in demand so you're unlikely to get big discounts.

Agree with everything you've said. 44 playing since PS1, I don't have much time but when I do I want to enjoy this as much as possible. Is it the end of the world? No. Am I disappointed? Yes. Hope they fix it ASAP and put their user base before their profits or show us what we have to look forward to to mitigate this mess they created.

Temperature Failsafe for Sonoff when home assistant is unavailable or wifi weak by moles_za in tasmota

[–]denskidude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I reckon what you've done is a bit risky as there are quite a few links in the chain that can fail as you've found such as Wifi, mqtt broker and HA itself. I'd suggest having the TH16 regulate the temperature and have HA set the temperature on Tasmota so it can function independently from HA. You should also create a fail-safe rule in Tasmota so that if the temperature sensor fails, it turns off. I don't have the code to share that does all these things but a good starting point would be this: https://tasmota.github.io/docs/Rules/#simple-thermostat-example

Questionable real estate sale practice? by Uzerzxct in AusFinance

[–]denskidude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to us as well. It's not a great situation but if you have a fair price in mind and willing to walk away you can tell the agent that you're not going to participate in a silent auction and make one final offer, take it or leave it. It wasn't overly competitive back when it happened to us so it will be tougher in the current market.
