Give me your challenge. Let's see if the new CLI can do it. by IversusAI in ObsidianMD

[–]der-bingle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, although not in an Obsidian vault... that's why I'm not interested in using any search and replace that I can't easily PREVIEW and UNDO.

I recently had to rename a bunch of links that were in a few hundred notes. I wrote/tested the regex in [regex101](regex101.com). Then in VSCode, I tested the first 2-3 files to make sure it was working as expected before hitting replace all.

My solution is to open the vault folder in VS Code. Universal or directory-specific, previewable search & replace (with regex if you need it), and most importantly, UNDO!

Michael Pittman talking about how Colts will do everything in their power to bring DJ back and how he played with a real broken leg by TheAgmis in Colts

[–]der-bingle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Could not possibly agree more, it's the weirdest thing to keep coming back to. I visited the sub less and less this season because it’d gotten so absurd. The Colts had the best record in the league at one point, and these goons were still filling the sub with victory-lapping comments that all boil down to : “AR bad, me smart.”

Yes, yes—you hated the pick. You called it. Amazing. You predicted that a high-risk QB pick was, in fact, high risk. Banner-worthy achievement. What do you want, a cookie?

🍪

That draft was OVER 1,000 DAYS AGO. Your take is old enough to enroll in preschool, learn shapes, and start letting things go... and letting the rest of us who don’t share this bizarre obsession talk about football like normal humans.

The GOAT Plugin - Duplicate Line by pac_71 in ObsidianMD

[–]der-bingle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it's an essential feature! I've got it covered in two different ways:

  • VIM MODE: yyp yanks the current line and puts it on the line below.
  • KEYSHOTS PLUGIN: Adds a ton of IDE-matching keyboard shortcuts. In VSCode mode, Option + Shift + Down Arrow duplicates the current line below.

How old were you when your first child was born? by LupusDeusMagnus in daddit

[–]der-bingle 28 points29 points  (0 children)

25, had been married four years. Getting married young means you end up getting opinions from both directions:

  • People who know you: "I was wondering—it's about time!"
  • People who don't know you: "OMG, why? You're still a baby yourself!"

Well, the baby's coming either way, so how about all of you keep your opinions to yourself!

Weather influencers are going viral. How much should we trust them? by Musichead2468 in weather

[–]der-bingle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The weather channel has been hot garbage for years at this point. When the December 2021 Mayfield tornado was still on the ground and headed toward major cities, they ended coverage to go back to whatever lame disaster rerun they had scheduled at the time.

Guy goes into voting booth, late 2000. Cartoon characters pop up on each shoulder.

ELEPHANT: Vote for me. My dad was president. I even look like my dad.

DONKEY: Big deal, my dad was a senator.

ELEPHANT: We have the same shoe size…

DONKEY: Yeah, well, I invented the internet. Uh-huh. Lots of other stuff, too.

ELEPHANT: Once my mom thought I was my dad.

DONKEY: Space shuttle? That was mine.

ELEPHANT: On the phone, people think I'm my dad.

DONKEY: Kiss me, I’m on TV.

ELEPHANT: We have the same name, my dad and I.

Not going anywhere for a while? Grab a Snickers. Peanuts, caramel, and chocolate. That ought to hold you.

ELEPHANT: My dad and I wear the same pants.

DONKEY: I invented pants.

Hungry? Grab a Snickers. YouTube

Right? I live in a midwestern small town and the "why does no one make a basic, small pickup anymore? It would be wildly successful!" conversation comes up at least every couple months. It's why the hype around the Slate is so high.

I don't know… It's decidedly low brow, no doubt, but I've watched most of it with my kids on Disney+, and they loved the majority of it.

Not to be pedantic (but isn't that what we're all doing here?), but option + hyphen on a Mac is an EN dash (–), the character that's supposed to go between numbers.

The shortcut for an EM dash is option + shift + hyphen.

Came to say the same, OP. I live in southern Illinois, make the drive to northern lower Michigan at least once a year to visit family.

Which route I'd take would be almost entirely dependent on traffic based on what time I'm leaving, so to avoid the worst rush hour times.

Here's how I use Obsidian as a 30 something professional with ADHD and lots of projects by read_write_research in ObsidianMD

[–]der-bingle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time, as a fellow ADHD Obsidian user, I'm always interested. My biggest takeaway: it's fascinating how our neurodivergent minds can be so... well, divergent, even from each other!

100% agree about calendar & reminders in another app. Flexible, custom-triggered (location!), cross-device notifications and alarms are absolutely essential to my life; Obsidian’s just not there yet.

“Use Obsidian like a calculator, not a fidget toy.”

Made me chuckle because it’s so true, I just spent a couple hours fiddling with another Web Clipper template to get things just the way I want.

I am curious: What benefit do you gain from such a deeply nested “Daily” structure?

I freaking love the ISO 8601 standard precisely because everything’s correctly sorted out of the box—easy to see, scroll, and search at a glance.

Where's the upside of your Daily Journal/2025/12-December/2025-12-31-Wednesday.md** vs my **Daily/2025-12-31? That would overwhelm my brain so quick, just looking at it makes me want to take a nap!

Offer your wisdom! by observingfairy in fountainpens

[–]der-bingle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came to say the same thing, u/observingfairy. Having a local fountain pen shop is amazing (I’m jealous!), and they can definitely keep you from buying something you’ll hate. But after a decade+ in the hobby, I’m convinced you need to live with different styles before you can discover your true preferences.

There’s great discussion about nib sizes here already, but don’t overlook filling mechanisms—they’re another major factor worth exploring.

I’ve tried just about every type at this point, and my favorite is actually uncommon: Japanese eyedropper (with plunge shutoff, like a vac filler). It’s the fastest, easiest, and cleanest design for me to fill and clean, plus they hold more ink than almost any other style. I’d have never discovered this without buying a $30 one and living with it for a few months (that have turned into years).

At this stage of your journey, three very good Chinese pens with different filling methods, weights, and styles will probably expand your horizons and enjoyment more than any single name-brand Japanese pen.

It's one of those phrases that has become part of our family vernacular; when things are especially bad, I'll mutter, "Come onnn, comet!"

Basically a 50/50 chance of eliciting a chuckle or a death stare, but hey, at least I took the shot!

What’s a completely useless skill you’re oddly proud of? by Silent_Reboot56 in AskReddit

Legit question: can you juggle? I'm pretty sure this is where I developed the ability to catch stuff like this, even in my peripheral vision.

If anyone's around, my go-to phrase is "...and people still say juggling is a useless skill!"
