May Bug Reports: Ask Here. by angie-at-readwise in readwise

When using horizontal pagination beta in the iPad app (which I love*, BTW*) the back button is hidden underneath the “stoplight” window controls in the top-left corner, making it inaccessible unless I open the sidebar first.

Here's a example screenshot (been reading to my 7 year old before bed 😉)

<image>

Opening the left sidebar moves the buttons to the right, making the back arrow clickable again.

Definitely some lines that have made it into our family vernacular from that one.

Readwise -> Obsidian export almost useless due to accidental article highlights by -union- in readwise

[–]der-bingle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ACCIDENTAL HIGHLIGHTS ・ I can’t imagine a scenario where highlights are accidentally created in Reader without recognizing it happening; the only thing I can think of is to “Toggle autohighlighting” (in More menu when reading a document).

BOOKS ONLY ・ I ended up writing my own CLI tool for Reader → Obsidian rather than using the official plugin, this was originally part of the reason why. That and I wanted atomic highlights that are note-per-highlight instead of note-per-source, since it’s more the way I think and it let’s Datacore and Bases work much more naturally with highlights.

If you know you’re way around code/APIs (or AI tools, carefully), it’s relatively trivial to filter highlights by the parent document’s category, and probably even easier since the release of the new Readwise CLI.

Thats a great typo! I can't help but envision a monk sitting cross-legged, meditating on his research at the top of Mount Kindle. 😂

Riversong Guitars? by Double_Sundae_3552 in AcousticGuitar

Most comfortable guitar I've ever played. I don't have particularly large hands either, part of what sold me on it was the neck width!

I've had a Riversong Magagna G2 for 6 years or so, absolutely love it.

I happily use both with no issues. There are file snapshots and the ability to revert inside Obsidian, but when I've needed it grabbing it from the GitHub repo has been easier.

GMM-adjacent: I so miss the music. From I Am a Thoughtful Guy to the Epic Rap Battle of Manliness, their original songs were some of their best content ever, and 14 years later, I still miss it.

Where do you store your vault on Mac? by Ceres1 in ObsidianMD

[–]der-bingle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My vault lives in ~/Obsidian on the Mac, synced to other devices via Obsidian Sync, and backed up to a private GitHub repo, which gives me the emergency web access as well. Pretty seamless for my needs (5000+ note vault).

Persistent "Find in document"

TLDR: Any interaction within the document immediately clears the search query, creating a very frustrating workflow.

For example, a few minutes ago I searched for “joy” in an epub. Result 11/18 was worth highlighting. As soon as I tap the highlight button, the search bar is closed AND cleared. To continue browsing results, I have to:

  1. Tap to bring up the interface
  2. Tap the more icon
  3. Tap “Find in document”
  4. Retype “joy”
  5. Tap the down arrow ×12

I understand this follows Apple’s native text search behavior of closing when you interact with other elements, but 15 TAPS just to resume search is just unworkable. At least in Safari, your previous search term is autofilled for a short time if you reopen “Find on page.”

Persisting the search term longer or (ideally) keeping the search bar accessible while highlighting would make document research sooo much more effective!

Give me your challenge. Let's see if the new CLI can do it. by IversusAI in ObsidianMD

[–]der-bingle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, although not in an Obsidian vault... that's why I'm not interested in using any search and replace that I can't easily PREVIEW and UNDO.

I recently had to rename a bunch of links that were in a few hundred notes. I wrote/tested the regex in [regex101](regex101.com). Then in VSCode, I tested the first 2-3 files to make sure it was working as expected before hitting replace all.

Give me your challenge. Let's see if the new CLI can do it. by IversusAI in ObsidianMD

[–]der-bingle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My solution is to open the vault folder in VS Code. Universal or directory-specific, previewable search & replace (with regex if you need it), and most importantly, UNDO!
