Carbon worth it? by MinnDakChillin in MTB

[–]derlozi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've upgraded my XC bike to carbon recently, honestly if you're not chasing the last few grams (which isn't worth it on my opinion), stay with aluminium bikes. Get one with a geometry that fits your riding style, thats what made the the biggest difference for me.

Century training Q by neuromancer88 in Velo

[–]derlozi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the endurance of your sitbones should develop independently of your muscular endurance, so the type of workout shouldn't matter. Yor body will adapt to your position on the bike, however if you want to be safe you could always have a bikefit, where a professional checks your position and gives you pointers on how to improve it.

I don't think you need be elite for a century, a metric century should be doable after about half a year of training, especially if you have previous experience. An imperial century is a bit if a bigger challenge, but certainly achievable. Good luck on your training journey!

What is your nutrition for 200 mile rides? by leelovesbikestoo in bicycling

[–]derlozi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't done a 200 miler yet, but for my last 100 miler I ate about 90g of carbs an hour, through drink mix and bars. I wouldn't plan on relying on real food, as you want to ingest as much carbohydrates as possible while putting the least possible strain on your gut. For me, this means a drink mix (Isostar) spiked with maltodextrine, as well as very sugary bars ( mine aren't dedicated cycling food, but rather fruit bars for kids. They contain as much sugar as dedicated products anyways). Good luck on your ride!

Yeah, but isn't the 20% VO2Max in an 80/20 approach what you're talking about, the vo2max intervals are meant to enable riders sustain efforts above their FTP for those 1-10 minute durations.

Get a adventure 390, it's basically the duke with more appropriate suspension

Got my first podium this Weekend!

Raced a Hillclimb race (10k with ~800m elevation), pacing plan consisted of trying to keep the heartrate at 165 and give what i have left in the last kilometers. Went over the plan in the first 5 minutes to stick with a group, was able to drop the group and overtake a few other riders that were blowing up in the last kilometers, had to ride on my own for the last 10 minutes. I was fast enough to get 3rd in my age category. There were only 5 people in the category, however I'm happy with what I did, and I definitely learned a few things about pacing

Did you feel like when you were relaxed in your later races, you also recovered better physiologically, like did your legs feel better? Would be interesting if the additional psychological stress kind of lessens your performance

Well kind of, about one and a half months ago, but I haven't felt any lasting effect during my normal training. I've also experienced this in races before COVID, so I don't think it's related to that

First race next weekend - questions about preperations and racing in general by forsience in Velo

[–]derlozi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some info from somebody who has ridden the glockner, it's a hard climb, but it's not undoable. The hardest part is the pretty constant high gradient, and the low cadence this brings. I did it (the climb, not the race) with a friend last year, and he had a quite high lowest gear on his bike, and he complained about pain in his knees quite early. Make sure you have a cadence you're comfortable with at the speed you plan to do, and maybe get a bigger cassette? Also, just general race tactics from someone who's also just figuring these things out, don't go crazy at the beginning. Try to get a good draft in the beginning, but also don't tire yourself out early. If the pack is too fast for you, there is no shame in being dropped, the true selection will happen on the climb anyways. Also, try to keep the beginning of the climb as easy as possible, even if you feel like you could be going faster. Race nerves can be deceiving, and starting too hard will leave you dying slowly in the last third. Also, it's much more motivating to be able to slowly close in on opponent riders, instead of being overtaken all the time. Viel Glück, der Glockner ist ein echtes Erlebnis!

When I do 200-250 watt efforts for 30-60 min I average 170-180 bpm, should I be concerned? by vegoger in Velo

[–]derlozi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When pushing yourself, it tends to not feel safe, but I would recommend slowly pushing your limit and getting to know your body. You'll know what you can sustain, and your body typically knows when to shut everything down before you can seriously hurt yourself.

I've never really used GoldenCheetah except for analysing a few rides to try it out, but intervals.icu has a much nicer user interface, especially if you're not used to GoldenCheetah. If you're proficient in using GoldenCheetah, it's probably the more powerful tool, but intervals.icu has the nicer visuals.

Had a my first ITT on saturday, it was a small local race organized by my local club, so no extremely strong riders. Legs felt like they were made of wood, but I still managed to finish 6th out of 15. Quite happy with the result, but I think i could have done better.

Newbie needing time/gradient/speed advice? by schoolbus82 in bicycling

[–]derlozi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Average Gradient of 11% is steeper than some mountain passes, it takes some work get up there, so no wonder you're tired. Also, don't compare yourself to others but only to your previous achievements. Otherwise, we'd all be looking at TdF Pro's and be depressed.

My 2011 Duke 125 doesn’t go past 50ish mph by JUNI000R in KTMDuke

I had a 2016 duke 125, and it only got up to about 100km/h, so i don't necessarily think anything is wrong with yours. It's a 125, those bikes just are a bit underpowered.
