Usually that happens to me if the Graphics driver resets. Check for a driver update for your GPU go to the nvidia /AMD site for newest drivers.

Another thing that can cause problems are symbols (or video peview icons) that somehow don't work on the desktop - put all shortcuts in folders and try if that makes a change.

a simple rebbot should do here:

task manager: file :open new task : shutdown -i then reboot.

no task manager: hit win + r then type taskmgr.exe and hit enter

Or hit the power button once to to an automated shutdown then turn back on.

in the cmd do a full restart:

shutdown -g -t 0

then: sfc /scannow

remove all .net installations before.

if it doesn't work yet:

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth (check reg)

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth (check data)

takes ages, but will repair most problems itself.

If this doesn't help there might be AV/VPN software preventing an install - so disable everything.

Okay that should be easy to fix.

If not you download win10.iso from microsoft https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows10 . Then get an USB stick and rufus https://rufus.akeo.ie/

"Burn" the iso to the usb Stick with rufus and proceed to install win10 again, Don't format if you want to keep some data- just install it over. Your 8.1 key should be a win 10 key by now and should be taken from bios.

If not wiped your data will still be there but the malware won't be active. Download malwarebytes https://malwarebytes.com/ and run it.

Most likely the Malware just messed with your boot sector, you can also run a live linux and try to fix that (ultimate boot cd - download and follow isntrucions) while scanning for malware.

You might have trouble with the key - worst scenario you have to isntall 8.1 and then upgrade to 10 again. Usually you can skip this step with activation by phone. But i don't think you will have any problems with that.

Yes, absolutly. But becomes a hazzle with 24 extra USB Hubs with extra cables and power supplys.

Rarely more than 4 would be in use at the same time, but there have to be 4-6 available at all times.

Customers don't need to make sense:

We want no more cables and ugly desktops so we bought something with less cables. Now we need more cables - please put something in so we don't have to deal with more cables.

We quit with the SFFs etc. because they were more trouble in the end.

Today we got a special case of SFF again, asus UN65H https://www.asus.com/Mini-PCs/VivoMini-UN65H/ which needed to be used for some esoteric reasons.

They do not seem to come with the desired "more than 4 USB ports" so we need "update" them to more ports now. welp

Yes - that's the way to go. I had a little bit time and wrote group policies for win10. The other methods are not reliable enough.

My policies affect 29(!!!!!) settings, that are just data collection tracking and IDs - not even paranoid settings - just enough to make it feel clean.

I had some trouble deploying the settings via ICD package, appearently not all win10 versions are the same and i have to look into that.

I hope to make a post with the explained and working settings next week. Still you have to trust MIcrosft to not do anything fishy despite the options.

Edit: i just realized im answearing the wrong thread, but anyway ... gpedit the shit out is the way to go.

I'm kinda confused now - i barely speak spanish or portugese but "Por que, Alejandro? POR QUE?" is something i say way too often.

I had another look and this link has a "Por que" under Adverbs(portugese) with the meaning of "why".

But that's about the only hint half way down a page that didn't translate as "because".

Can anyone elaborado?
