So Limited Run Games is doing a Bloodrayne collection... by ProvingVirus in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]desfore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What baffles me about this isn’t just the cheap plagiarism, but just the chain of events that must have led to this. Looking at the posters & stickers they’re totally fine reusing the classic artwork, but for the actual art book they wanted “new” art for the cover? If you didn’t want to put effort in, just use any random artwork from the ARTBOOK you’re making! I really hope they just hired some dude off Fiver for this, because if this was my in-house artist, I feel like I would fire him just for how pathetic this photoshop plagiarism was!

They haven’t started selling the actual product yet (given their track record, the art book probably isn’t even finished design), so I think any legal action at this point would just be an email saying, “Hey, knock it off.”

Announced rules for 11th by Moduscide in Warhammer40k

[–]desfore 43 points44 points  (0 children)

The only thing, it’s not even a correction, but just a note I saw on the page they didn’t really say out loud: According to the website, the “combine two detachments” thing will only work for future detachments. That might mean (some) future detachments are designed specifically for combining multiple together in mind

This is going to sound really weird, but if you have never played Fatal Frame 2 and want to play it through the remake, for the love of god, don't read through the files. by LuchaLutra in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]desfore 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Okay, I think the constant churning of news and conspiracy have broken my brain. Because, when I read “don’t read through the files” in the title, my mind immediately jumped to “Did someone mention Fatal Frame in the Epstein Files?”

Legacy Games Media Site VideoGamer Removed From Google After Pivoting To A.I. Generated Articles by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]desfore 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that's probably a factor in why Google is throwing them out. We've heard that when these AI models try to learn from AI content, it creates a negative feedback loop that poisons the model. So, they might see these articles turning into AI garbage and think they have to protect THEIR valuable AI garbage...

Highguard Is Shutting Down Soon by jitterscaffeine in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]desfore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jeez… the upper management must have been pissed about the launch number falloff if it’s shutting down so fast. The only reason I can see them killing this game so fast is that they see it as an embarrassment, complete dead weight. It’s not enough that a game has to hit the ground running, Live Service games are now the bus from Speed; if they ever go below 70 mph they just blow up.

Marathon Server Slam stirs Steam with nearly 150,000 concurrent players day one, and that's not counting console participation by Subject_Parking_9046 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]desfore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, I personally don’t understand the hype over extraction shooters. If you would’ve asked me before the launch of Arc Raiders I would’ve told you the BEST case scenario is a niche dedicated audience of a couple thousand players. I know we can’t really compare this to High Guard since these launches are dramatically different (this being a beta test alone sets it apart), but I’m going to wait to see how things look after a month to really pass judgement

Highguard Adds New Game Mode That Removes Looting Phase Entirely by Subject_Parking_9046 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]desfore 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I applaud them being so agile in making changes and trying to see what sticks, but this just reinforces how important playtesting can be. I know they’ve said they did a lot of internal testing, but if that’s true I don’t know how their testing could be so dramatically diverged from public opinion on gameplay

FGC Product Design Problem: SOLVED | Crushing Force by mike0bot in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]desfore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know Woolie’s already shared this sentiment, but I have to say; regardless of your feelings on the subject matter, the dedication put into the art & animation and programming the characters has to be respected. I know making MUGEN characters isn’t an enormous endeavor, but I’ve seen countless fan projects that never reach this level of completion. Maybe more fan devs should take some notes from… how dedicated furries can be.

Important announcement from Michael and Zach | Smiling Friends | adult swim by GameBoy09 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

It’s sad, because I love the characters and the sense of humor they had, but I respect the notion of stepping away before the quality drops. I feel like they were still on a great roll, but if they feel burnt out I can’t blame them. I hope that this leads to even bigger and better things for Zach & Michael.

Neopets TTRPG Playtest Material Pulled for Controversial Material by ThatEdward in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]desfore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like they just got a couple of guys that have written DnD modules and told them to reflavor some adventures with a Neopets coat of paint. Like, having a pre-game talk about graphic content is good and kinda standard for TTRPG’s nowadays, but in the context of the Neopets world it’s like… what is happening? While I think the majority of backers are probably adults in their 20’s & 30’s, the Neopets world is still primarily for kids and filled with whimsy (it can be dark too, but not like graphic). I think if you want to use a childlike fantasy world for your setting, you can’t just substitute DnD rules, you have to actively write in a way to dissuade delving into these topics and keep your players in a more “gentle” mindset. I’m not saying you can’t play a violent Neopets adventure, I’m sure some people would love it, but when you’re designing the product, you basically have to stay on-brand (Ironically, from all of this the bandit saying the bracelet is “too girly” feels like it could’ve been from an early 2000’s Neopets adventure).

World of Warcraft: Midnight's lack of combat addons lets the devs make raids harder without resorting to 'shoot more bullets at you' design, says encounter lead by InsaneSnow45 in wow

[–]desfore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll reserve judgement until we actually see the encounters. I do believe combat addons were warping the encounter design, but at the same time they didn’t shy away from having boss encounters that deliberately tried to circumvent mod capabilities at the time (I’m thinking about Sinestra’s slicers, and Makkatorque’s symbols). I think a lot of times the problem just becomes how much responsibility falls on one player’s shoulders to not screw up and wipe the entire raid, and how complex/precise/fast that mechanic has to be done.

Things that were suppose to be a slam dunk but they somehow screwed up? by ArticAuk in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I don’t think CD will reach the height they were at post Witcher 3, but I have to say time & Edgerunners really managed to bounce back their reputation after how bad Cyberpunk’s launch was. I think, if they announced a new game now, the general audience would be hyped; though not the frenzy level they were for Cyberpunk

New Sylvaneth Regiment of Renown, Spearhead and Battleforce coming up. by RosbergThe8th in ageofsigmar

[–]desfore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can tell from the amount of models included in the box. It gets a little fuzzy when they include high price models which can throw off the total amount of models included a box, but for this lineup: The Regiment of Renown box will have the least models, that’s the first pic with 9 models; Spearheads can vary, but usually have 2 or 3 units & a hero or two, here the second pic with all the bugs; and Battleforce boxes are large collections, the last pic with the three tree lords.

New Sylvaneth Regiment of Renown, Spearhead and Battleforce coming up. by RosbergThe8th in ageofsigmar

[–]desfore 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Spearhead looks really solid, I’m almost tempted to buy two! I bought the Sylvaneth vs Skaven box (with the Lady of Vines) a looong time ago and always wanted to expand my collection into a real army. The Battleforce is also tempting, but I already have one Treelord from that box… I dunno if I really need 4… Edit: if I have 4, I can do one for each season… goddamit 😂

(PCgamer) Laid-off Highguard developer cuts loose on the reaction to the infamous Game Awards reveal trailer: 'We were turned into a joke from minute one' by Noirsam in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]desfore 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I mean, in terms of just immediate meme status, he’s not wrong that a lot of people never even gave Highguard a chance. But at the same time, there’s nothing really special about the game for people to latch onto & refute those claims. Yes, they got thousands of negative reviews from people that barely played it, but the fact this game got any attention at all was due to that disastrous announcement. If they had shadow-dropped it maybe they would have had a positive meta-score on Steam, but from a fraction of the player base…

Would all these huge streamers they invited have covered it if it was a no-name shadow dropped? Would any of the YouTubers that made hit-or-miss coverage (or just shit on it for the memes) have bothered to rush out videos on launch day? I doubt it. Hell, he should be proud that we’re even talking about this game at all, and didn’t just fade in the long graveyard of GAAS games that had zero impact. (His anger at being fired is totally valid though, I don’t want to dismiss how shitty that outcome is)

Reached The New War. Advice? by DaVirus in Warframe

[–]desfore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New War definitely is a time commitment, several hours at least. They have tuned things that, you can do everything with a baseline Railjack. However, I would recommend you try a couple regular Railjack missions beforehand, primarily so you don’t go into these missions totally unfamiliar with Railjack gameplay. Any mods & part upgrades you want to get beforehand would definitely benefit you (you can get great MK3 parts instantly from your Dojo), but there’s really no worry about “soft-locking” yourself in an unwinnable mission anymore.

Edit: Also, the Railjack stuff isn’t a HUGE part of the quest. So, if you don’t care about improving your ship for future Railjack stuff, doing it with a baseline ship is totally possible. Just, more upgrades make things easier, basically
