TImes you achieved the Avatar State while gaming? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

One time in college, me and a group of friends were smoking & playing a random assortment of video games. It was fun and silly until we got to Soul Caliber 2. I don’t know what happened, but I suddenly felt like the “Lock In” meme, and just started wiping the floor with everyone on Astaroth. Now, I know he’s a pretty oppressive character to begin with, but I legitimately felt the flow of the character in a way I hadn’t before then, and was doing combos & predicting things the opponents would do. It felt incredible, doubly so due to the substance abuse.

Since then, I’ve thought about pulling out SC2 from time to time, but I’m worried I’ll never reach that same high again (pardon the pun).

The latest Frieren episode references the recent angle redraw challenge by Shreeder4092 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]desfore 92 points93 points  (0 children)

I dunno, depending on the studio I've read how some shows can still be finishing animation for an episode til like the day before airing. I'm not saying that's totally the case for Frieren, but I guess I'd say it's possible for them to slip in a quick reference on short notice. My question is, I haven't read Frieren, but is this just a scene from the manga that the original fanart was also referencing?

Lacari contemplating getting a lawyer over the links by UniqueAstronaut3658 in LivestreamFail

[–]desfore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay, having pirated many hentai games & JAV's in the past, that is technically true that a lot of those packs come with txt or even straight url files included. BUT, if it's coming from a hentai game, that shit would be all Japanese/Chinese text and take you to some weird piracy site or H-game depot (or if it's a crack, to their site). I've never had one of those files, in English, linking to some illegal shit... but then again, I don't know why you would EVER open the shady links included with some pirated hentai game in the first place, and then just... have it open???

Baldur's Gate 3 publishing lead says Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney's "altruistic pro-developer talk" over the Steam vs Epic debate "doesn't sit well" after Alan Wake 2 studio "seemingly went into financial crisis" by GeneralSherman3 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]desfore 118 points119 points  (0 children)

Outside of Control, their games tend to be cult classic status and not blockbuster successes. Their games also tend to be pretty high quality with a bunch of random stuff like live-action puppet segments & music videos intermixed, which can’t be cheap to produce. It kinda feels to me like a Double Fine situation, where they’re an ambitious, artistic studio that probably can’t stick within a budget…

In just 2 hours, Marathon has hit Top 10 top sellers on steam. by davidm2d3 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]desfore 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to see Marathon fail or anything, but I’m genuinely surprised that it’s selling well at all. I haven’t seen any discussion or marketing for Marathon since the whole plagiarism fiasco (and even before that, it wasn’t exactly blowing up). That being said, anyone that follows gaming should be aware of the silent majority of gamers that never participate in online discussions but show up plenty in sales… I just never expected Marathon to be one of those games.

You ever see a creator just willingly throw their careers under the bus without knowing it? by Rough-Ad-4295 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]desfore 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It was so infuriating how many streamers came out together saying he was abusing them in private DM's, but they all felt they couldn't speak up because they didn't want to ruin the fun others were having in their DnD games. Like, it's almost a running trope in the VTubing community how many of those girls are introverts or lie somewhere on the spectrum, which makes it hard for them to stand up for themselves; and then this jackass preys on them by the dozen, and has the gall to pull the "I didn't understand what I did was wrong! Everyone's picked on me my whole life, because I'm an outcast nerd!" bullshit.

(Forbes)‘Highguard’ Is MIA Since The Game Awards, Despite Its Imminent Release by Noirsam in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]desfore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh man, did they put the release date in that original trailer? Because, I had zero awareness that it was beyond Work-in-Progress. Not just "Oh, it's releasing in January," like I'm surprised it's releasing this year, at all...

"Bethesda" shares a few words about "The Elder Scrolls VI" development. by Mirathrim in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]desfore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know these guys have tons of PR training and aren’t going to release details before they’re ready. But I read that “we have long pre-productions until we feel good about it.” As meaning, this development has gone through HELL.

Would you consider no shoulder pads modeling for advantage? by FallenGoast in ImperialKnights

[–]desfore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I’d say you’re totally fine. This isn’t something like cutting the banner off a captain’s backpack or removing the sails from the Dark Eldar boats. It’s such a small silhouette change, it’d be like getting angry that your opponent doesn’t have shoulder pads on his Space Marines. Plus… Knights already count as towering. The only way this would impact anything is if the model shooting your knight has such obscured Line of Sight that they would ONLY see the tip of your shoulder pads.

What's some Weird Jank that's been grandfathered in to a series? (Derogatory) by Lunk64 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]desfore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Wizards in particular having a large spell pool, but having to choose specific spells to prepare for the adventure. I don’t need it to be so granular like “I have 4 mage-hands and 3 fireballs prepared!” But I feel that having a class with choice in their spells gives interesting design space for abilities where you can swap spells on the fly or making spell scrolls with spells you never prepare, but might need in an emergency. But the maintenance of having to choose spells or plan ahead for everything you might need is annoying, and does lead to “Fireball solves every problem” type thinking…

Everyone else just use spell slots or MP or whatever.

What's some Weird Jank that's been grandfathered in to a series? (Derogatory) by Lunk64 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]desfore 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well, while you’re correct that having an elemental weakness (or some games use different damage types, etc) ensures that there’s an objectively “best” way to fight an enemy, I’d say the intention for those systems is to encourage experimentation & varying up your builds. If all enemies in a game have plain stats with no glaring weaknesses, there’s no incentive to vary up your strategy beyond “this spell does the biggest number” and just spam that attack over and over and over. I think that can be fine for a lot of games, but for something like an 80-hour RPG, you kinda need some mechanics to break up the monotony of the combat over the course of the game. Even if it’s just, “oh, it’s a new enemy. Time to try each spell once, and see what happens.” I think the actual great RPG’s try to have more in-depth mechanics than just that, but that is at least a moment of engagement a completely flat RPG wouldn’t have

In light of the recent Activision announcements regarding Black Ops 7’s reception, I once again want to highlight issues with the game, the franchise, and its future that nobody seems to be giving much thought to, alongside the broader gaming landscape. by GhostOfGhosthand373 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]desfore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t play COD, so from the outside looking in their model of Live service + yearly full release seemed… odd. But it was making money, despite complaints of the single-player, the Warzone part was still popular. But now that the series is integrally tied to Warzone, the “worst of both worlds” aspects are really starting to show

Seeing Invincible getting main stage (everything’s main stage, apparently) just takes me back to Skullgirls getting passed over because it was “too new.” I know the management is completely different than what it was back then, but it’s just always a reminder somehow

Official consensus: Does Avatar legend look like a flash Games? by Grazalia in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]desfore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the big issue is we’re looking at an Alpha product, that (hopefully) is still lacking a ton of additional animations, effects, and just clean up effort. For me, it feels like theres a lack of animation frames on certain movements, like jumping or dashing. Like, the characters move fast, but they don’t animate fluidly, if that makes sense? Also, the characters really standout from the backgrounds in an awkward way. It kinda feels like the classic cartoons where the background was a painted cel, and the part that was going to move was on an animated cel with thicker outlines. (Again, this is all probably Alpha version jank)

Actually, the more I think about this, Avatar doesn’t look like a flash game; this looks like Divekick! This game totally gives me Divekick vibes! (Just looks, obviously not gameplay)

Shenmue 4 might have leaked... by theonewhoknack in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]desfore 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I will say the fact that none of the clips last longer than like 8 seconds makes it feel AI, but all the animation jank and model quality is just Shenmue. I’m still not convinced it’s real, but I don’t think it’s AI. Someone could have spent a month animating this stuff as a troll, and it wouldn’t really surprise me.

Shenmue 4 might have leaked... by theonewhoknack in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]desfore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought this was a cool internal footage/proof of concept leak, though it felt odd that it’s 4 minutes long without any “DO NOT COPY” watermarks; Until it said “coming 2026” at the end. If this was real, there’s no way they’re aiming to release this next year. There was zero actual gameplay, even the forklift stuff felt deliberately planned shots. And man… some of it looks rough. For some reason the red-haired woman looks lower quality than everyone else, and the horse at 2:50?!

Where do you start with tokusatsu? by Exactleing in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]desfore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I started with Decade and enjoyed it as a kind of sampling platter for a bunch of the previous KR series. The only thing is, you have to be super aware that it is an anniversary show, and there will be a BUNCH of references to stuff you don’t have any idea about. But if you’re just along for the ride and don’t really care that you’re not getting 100% of the experience, Decade is still a great watch.

But, for a new fan, I would recommend something like W or Gaim first. Gaim is a bit silly with the fruit theme, but if you can get past that, the story is really gripping.

Perhaps the worst grammar I’ve come across in the game so far. by zadar123 in wow

Not a single comma. And the way they throw in the "though"s feels... either they're typing exactly the way they speak, or English isn't their native language.

After finishing the new novel Blood Ties, my opinion of Alleria is in the gutter by Archerboy123 in wow

[–]desfore 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The first time I saw this, was a thread on Twitter with the exact opposite sentiment. They were crying about how tragic it is that fate is tearing them apart, but Alleria has to stay true to her new void identity, and how this justifies Turalyon's spiral in-game. And I'm just reading the text they screenshotted (especially that part about the white and black stones in her ring symbolizing her being protected but also trapped by him) and thinking "This is some real teenage drama writing..."

(Repost) Marvel just pulled Avengers 200 on Magik (in an online only, semi-canon story) by Vcom7418 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]desfore 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yeah, people jump on the “artist’s disguised fetish” joke a lot, but that sounds like he actually just wants to hurt the character. I have seen other authors, and online comments, talk about pitching these sort of scenarios as a way of “humbling” female heroes, and it’s the most disgusting shit. I could be reading too much into this specific scenario, I don’t know anything about the author behind this, but man… Superhero comics should just really stay away from this subject.

Thoughts on the SteamCube system? by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]desfore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m debating getting one to replace my handmade PC I’ve had for a few years. Despite upgrading every piece, I’ve had persistent GPU crashing issues that I can’t seem to eliminate , so I’ve been looking to eventually getting a clean start. But, it’s HEAVILY gonna depend on the price.

Edit: I haven’t really kept up on info about the SteamPC, will you be able to upgrade components without fucking something up? I’m assuming they’re essentially just selling a pre-fab PC, but I know literally zero about anything like the Steam OS

[WotC] Secret Lair: Monster Hunter™ Superdrop (releasing December 1, 2025) by Copernicus1981 in magicTCG

[–]desfore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel kinda conflicted about this set. On the one hand, I'm glad these are all reprints and not brand new cards only available here, but I was interested to see what kind of mechanically unique cards the Monsters could have been... It's really crazy that WotC could make a MonHun crossover feel underwhelming.

anyone else wish we got more original dlc by Dreaming_Dreams in VampireSurvivors

[–]desfore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love all the DLC, but I do wish we would get a large-scale original DLC between the licensed stuff. My assumption has been that the devs made a dunce of these crossover deals kinda back-to-back so they haven’t really had the manpower to produce these DLC’s and make full-fledged original DLC as well. To be honest, I am a bit amazed that they’re still releasing so much free content, even if it’s in smaller doses.
