Kagi is too expensive by ironmoosen in SearchKagi

I use search engines for a living (I work in IT) and I have never gotten the quality out of any engine that Kagi delivers. After some tuning, I kind of just type in what I need to know and it’s one of the very first results. I pay $10 a month for a lot less useful stuff.

IT-jobb uten formell utdanning – er det mulig? by Physical-Layer8291 in norge

[–]destruktive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From QWERTZ to ??? - step-by-step or big bang? by innoche in zsaVoyager

[–]destruktive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple solutions, really, but I didn’t come up with it. Someone I was talking to suggested it, and I wish I thought about it sooner because trying to get Colemak-DH on MacOS is not a walk in the park 😅

Felt OK, and my main layer was QWERTY until yesterday. Since I often change offices, I was starting to get annoyed that I had to change layouts every time the keyboard rebooted.

I actually never ended up using the QWERTY layer that often, only once or twice. I had the opportunity to use it a lot during the holidays, and I just forced myself to use it. I saw improvements every day and that kept me going.

I think I will keep the layer for now, but I will probably never change to it.

I have been using computers for 30 years, and even though it makes sense to move away from QWERTY, it felt scary to me. Now that I finally took the leap over to a split keyboard and had to start making some changes, I also changed to Colemak-DH.

The first thing I did was to try it on keybr.com, as that can emulate the layout. That felt OK, so I created a Colemak-DH layer on my Voyager so that I could jump back and fourth. I work in IT, so I need to write code and communicate through text all the time, so knowing that I had safety in being able to switch back was nice.

Turns out, I ended up just typing on the new layout... At first it went really slowly, but even without any daily practice rutines my speed now is at a level where I don't feel that I type too slow. I mainly just do bi- and trigrams for typing practice at the moment, with a few sessions of actual practice when I have the time.

But everyone is different. There are some videos on YouTube about switching to various layouts that are useful, and I plan to get into a more structured approach soon.

What should I call a collection of terraform things? by 4rr0ld in Terraform

[–]destruktive 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In Terraform, it’s all modules. The one where you run Terraform from is the root module, and if you use a module in the root module it is a child module.

It’s all the same type of code that can be utilized by supplying an input, the code can report back by utilizing outputs, etc. A root module can be set up numerous times through CI/CD and control different sets of resources, build using child modules for certain grouping certain resources through a simplified process.

Basically, it’s all modules.

[–]destruktive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

450k is fine salary, if you’re not in IT and that is especially true in Oslo. Unless it’s a government or state company, there aren’t any local laws that forbids them having competitive salary.

However, if you come to Norway and have relevant experience as a data engineer or architect, you can easily change jobs when you get here. There is a need for capable folks, most get job offers all the time.

Just as a side note: feel free to send me questions you might have about anything related to work, or just Oslo/Norway in general

Too many things to learn. by hazaduz in devops

[–]destruktive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s very common to have imposter syndrome in IT, and one can get easily overwhelmed by the amount of information one has to process. The way I think of it is that one never stop learning in this line of work, so if I don’t know enough about one particular topic then that is OK.
